Best known for its castle, which was recently used as a location for Hogwarts School in the Harry Potter film series, Warkworth is a charming small village with a colourful history and an attractive 1200-year old church. The Percy Family, who also have a residence at Alnwick castle, acquired the castle in 1332. The village's main street is lined with Georgian and early Victorian houses with a good selection of galleries, antique shops, gift shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants - a browsers paradise and an ideal way to while away your time in this pretty part of the world. Bamburgh Castle, Hadrian's Wall and Holy Island are all within striking distance and for those who can't bear to be away from the fairway, there's a nine-hole golf course.
Reviews
"We were first visitors after lockdown the lodge was immaculately clean all safeguards in place, it is in a beautiful countryside location , access to local footpaths lovely coastal walks nearby. It has 3 good size bedrooms, one with en suite, bright and airy living room, kitchen , diner. Lovely conservatory overlooking the well kept garden with tables and chairs. We were lucky to see the local hare twice on the garden who seems to be very tame. We will definitely be paying another visit"
"3 bedroom, 2 bathroom, open plan lounge kitchen diner, excellent rental property. It was warm and cosy very welcoming, spotlessly clean, ample parking, well equipped and fitted out. Linens and towels supplied. The added extras of scones, jam and butter, a vase of flowers and a Christmas tree were a lovely find. There are also toiletries, dishwasher tablets etc etc all in all a very good find and stay"
"Great place - would certainly consider staying again. Fixtures and fittings to a very high standard and lots of space. The owners were very helpful. Parking also excellent with good views. Very quiet location."
"Not surprised other reviewers have given a 5 star rating, all the positive comments are true. We stayed for a fishing week in June 14 and don't have anything bad to say about this place. The sea fishing out from Amble was good too. Exellent standard and value for money; we would definitely recommend it."
"Our fourth visit to this Lodge set in tranquil surroundings. We have previously stayed with family and friends, it is spacious. Very homely and comfortable and well equipped kitchen. Nice comfy beds. Tastefully decorated. It is exceptionally well maintained and immaculately clean. Credit to the owners who are very welcoming and helpful. Lovely Welcome Pack after a long journey. As soon as you walk through the door, its totally relaxing. Nearby attractions such as Alnwick Gardens and Castle, Bamburgh and boat trips from Seahouses to the Farne Islands. Not forgetting the lovely beach at Warkworth itself."
"We have been visiting the area for almost twenty years to take part in the Great North Run and we decided several years ago to make a week's holiday out of it. We found Miramar Lodge, Eastfield Hall, about 6 years ago and have gone back there ever year since. The village of Warkworth is picturesque, the lodge itself is spacious, comfortable, well equipped with breathtaking views from every angle and it feels like home. The location is superb, quiet but suitable not only for young families but also for the older generation. The beaches in the area are outstanding and there are plenty of places to visit. The owners are friendly and very helpful"
"Very clean and well equipped lodge. Lovely quiet location but close to beaches, castles and village for good pubs and cafes."
"Excellent accomodation, peaceful location yet convenient for all attractions.Friendly reception by owner and delicious trifle which she had made for us.We will be returning in 2012."
"As the title says, Miramar Lodge can only be described as superb. Immaculately presented with top quality fixtures & fittings. It's a credit to the owner. Warm & comfortable, so much so, that even the fickle UK weather doesn't matter ! Would have no hesitation ib staying here again."
"Loved this property. My parents have difficulty in walking so this property suited all our needs fully (two wide steps to front door). The spacious open plan accommodation has a small conservatory which offered solice away from the tv. A brilliant location for exploring the area."
"The cottage was extremely well appointed with lots of space for the quiet moments. The surrounding area was also very attractive with plenty of walks for those of a rambling nature. the location of the cottage was ideal for trips out, plus the nearby town of warkworth had the castle to visit, plus the riverside walk. The only downside was the gravel driveway leading to the cottage, which was very potholed"
