Situated in the heart of beautiful Teesdale close to the villages of Romaldkirk and Middleton is the small hamlet of Mickleton. Within Teesdale and just a few miles from the market town of Barnard Castle, this pretty village consists primarily of a cluster of stone houses set along a single street. With a post office, village shop and two pubs, Mickleton has everything a visitor could need. However for more specific amenities, Barnard Castle provides a huge range of shops, restaurants and pubs. Just on the doorstep are The Pennine and Teesdale Ways, providing beautiful walking routes through the local countryside. The River Tees and magnificent waterfalls at High Force are also close by.
Reviews
"Nice area, good for walks, cycle rides and pubs. However the Agency's description of the property is very misleading. The property is very small and indescribably dark inside - you will have the (tungsten filament) lights on all the time. Yes, old cottages are dark, but the two windows on this property look out onto a grey 6' wall surmounted but a 20' yew and holly hedge. Early morning sun can't get in because of the trees on the other side of the lane. If you intend cooking anything much more than a tea bag you will find that difficult using the ancient microwave / combination and 2 ring electric hob which seems to get hot all over. If you bring in a takeaway there is no table to use*. If you eat it off your knees, there is not a coffee table to use. If you choose "al fresco", the "garden" is a gravel car park you will share with your neighbour, two wheelie bins and two dead pot plants. Upstairs there are two ill lit steps between the gallery bedroom and the bathroom which are a trip hazard at any time and at 2am in particular. At least gentlemen will know when they get there, because they will crack their head on the beam. Incidentally, there are no bathroom towels which is a bit rich for a 4 tick property. I am no architect but I suspect only the stone shell of the building is period and that everything else is 21st Century. * There is a "breakfast bar" but space is so limited we could not see how it was in any way useful."
"We were made to feel welcome to Garden Cottage by the very helpful owner. The cottage is delightful and the area is lovely, not busy and not 'touristy'. Bar/Restaurant in village is excellent and would highly recommend. The enclosed garden is great for dogs as you can open the door and be sure they are safe to wander around. Would love to go back as we did enjoy it"
"Lovely location. off the beaten track and really quiet, just what you want in a country cottage, immaculately turned out, and in very good decorative order, Handy for the local walks and eateries, small only really suitable for 2 with a basic kitchen, but if you plan on being out a lot this wouldn't be an issue, our host couldn't have been more pleasant. Only down side is the small windows make the cottage a bit dark, but that's not really a major issue, overall a very well turned out small cottage, can't wait to get back to the area!"
"A nice and cosy cottage. Welcome-eggs. The cottage is small but enough for 2 adults. It is not easy to find if you are not from Great Britain. We missed the small road two times. But when we reached the "goal" it was, for us, typical English, nice and kind. We had a wonderful week with good weather and not so good weather. And I had never seen so much sheeps in my live."
