The English seaside town of Scarborough has been welcoming holidaymakers for many years and still retains many of its original fine buildings. The North Bay has a safe, sandy beach whilst the golden sands of South Bay are broken by a rocky headland on which stands Scarborough Castle. The castle was built in the reign of King Stephen and has had a rich and varied history, making it well worth exploring. Peasholm Park has a beautiful lake where all sorts of boats can be hired from rowing boats to dragon headed pedalos, and visitors can while away the time messing about on the water. There are many attractions in and around this lovely seaside town, and with its wide range of restaurants, cafés and shops, Scarborough is a marvellous centre for a family holiday.
Reviews
"Lovely cottage in a really nice village. Pool and hot tub are a huge bonus which we used every day. Cottage very clean but needing a little tlc and some repairs. Plenty of towels provided which was great only thing which would be helpful was fans in the bedrooms as they get super warm during the night. Garden very private owners very nice and unobtrusive. The lane leading to the cottage desperately needs trimmed as the trees were scraping along the cars each time we went in and out . Handy for visits to Scarborough and Flamingoland etc. I would recommend the cottage to others and would boll again if going back in that area :)"
"After a short welcome tour we were left alone to enjoy our holiday, knowing that the owners were just next door if we did need anything. We didnt. Everything we needed was there for us. We were provided with loads and loads of towels, soap and shampoo. The pool was lovely and warm as was the hot tub. There were robes to borrow for the run to the hot tub, inflatable pool toys and a shower and a toilet on the pool side for convenience. The kitchen was fully stocked with pots and pans, a 1000watt microwave and fresh milk, tea, coffee and even choc biccies. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. The roof windows in the bedroom meant that we could keep the blinds open (nobody could see in) and sleep 'under the stars' whilst enjoying the quiet nights. We popped down to Scarborough a few times, about 4 miles away, and we were very suprised to find all the seafront shops and arcades open on the weekend - in freezing cold December! The only downside to mention would be for those with dogs. We stayed in December so it was dark until half seven in the morning and dark by 4pm in the afternoon. The nice lady owner said the dogs are welcome to pee in the garden, just beyond the hot tub which is enclosed with wire fencing, but the dogs then have to come back into the house via the swimming pool with their muddy paws. So after that one time we took to walking our dogs on the pavement at the road side. This is very dark though with few street lights and very fast cars (despite the 30mph limit). But we cannot blame the owners for the street lighting of course. "
"We came for a week in November and it was just perfect. My girlfriend had previously been with 6 friends in February and my mum thought it would be ideal for a family get away. There was 3 couples and a 9 month old and it was still spacious and was very accomadating for us all. There is plenty to do around the location as well. We have already booked again for November 14 For the price it is more than good value it is brilliant. Pool and got tub were very well looked after Thank you to the owners who were extremely friendly and helpful"
"Aleady hope to book again in the future. Only downside was the arctic weather outside but we were warm and cosy inside and the open log fire made the cottage very homely. Deceptively large too, especially as were two couples with what seemed an excessive amount of stuff for a week stay. Plenty of space. Parking for twwo cars as well. The swimming pool and hot tub were fantstic and we all enjoyed daily swims. A lovely, relaxing stay and the owners were very personable and welcoming, as were other members of the family. Would highly recommend Westfield Barn. Good location for North Yorkshire and the East Coast."
"I hired this cottage for a long weekend with my husband and 4 friends. We were made to feel welcome from the outset, with a quick but informative show around by Jane. Every comfort had been catered for and anticipated, with tea, coffee and biscuits provided for our use, and fluffy bathrobes for snuggling up in around the indoor pool, and for the short dash across the patio (in freezing temperatures) to the lovely hot tub. We made good use of the pool, and absolutely loved sitting in the hot tub, sipping champagne and gazing out and watching the snow falling gently on the lawn, as we felt snug (and very very smug!) The living room is comfortable and cosy, with a real fire to welcome you in after a bracing stroll along Marine Drive at Scarborough. The furnishings and bedding were fresh and expensive-looking, and the kitchen and bathroom facilities more than adequate. We ate in two of the evenings, and had dinner at the Copper Horse (a short stroll down the road) on the first evening, which I would deffinately recommend. A trip to the micro brewery at Cropton (30 mins drive) followed by lunch in its adjoining pub, was the perfect way to spend a leisurely Saturday lunchtime. All in all, a perfect weekend."
"We had a wonderful time at Westfield Barn, it was January, it was snowy but we were warm and cosy and very comfortable. The entire holiday was relaxing, it was great to be able to swim every morning followed by a dip in the hot sub. There is a great bus service from the village and although we had the car we made full use of the buses to York and Scarborough. The cottage is well equipped, quiet and peaceful but has easy access to the beautiful Yorkshire coastline and the moors. We will certainly go again"
"Came away for my birthday with 6 friends, and it was the perfect property for us all! The hot tub and swimming pool were enjoyed by all, and for the price paid it was an unreal! There was plenty of room for everyone and the beds were nice and comfy, the whole property is very clean and well equipped with eveything you need. The owners were lovely showing us round the property telling us all we need to know, and were always on hand to help, and even if their out, their family live opposite which was good for us when we lost the keys (found them later on in the sofa bed, oops!) Overall i would recommend this property to anyone, families, couples or friends. It really is so worth it, and the price what you pay is nothing,"
