Known as the Isle of Whithorn, this village is actually not an island, but a small village on the Scottish coast in Dumfries and Galloway. Amenities in the village include two pubs/hotels, a Post Office/general store, and a harbour. There is so much history in this area, from Iron Age forts to 11th century churches, and standing stones to castles built by Robert The Bruce. The 'book town' of Scotland, Wigtown, is a few miles away from the village, and the rest of lovely Dumfries and Galloway is on the doorstep.

"The cottage was exactly as described. Went out of the door and we could see the sea and within one minutes walk you were there. A beautiful position and the few people we saw at this time of the year were very friendly. There is no signal for phone or computer but we found a spot just up the road that we could use both. I am not religious but the area is very tranqil as I believe it all started in this region"

"Very impressed with the property. A small problem with the t v was quickly solved by the lovely young lady who lived in the village. More than adequately equipped with every thing necessary. Handy for the pub on the harbour which served good beer and food. Great for walks with a dog and a good base for exploring further afield."

"The cottage was very nice, everything we needed for the week, warm and comfortable, being so close to the sea was a bonus we hadn't expected and we were in a good place to travel round sight seeing, and then take a stroll before it got dark with the sea on one side, we could walk from the cottage and leave the car safe and sound."

"we have been going to Isle of Whitorn for over 30 yrs.It is lovely and peaceful, not good for families though as nothing much to do on the isle. The bungalow we stayed in was very well equiped, beds comfortable and nice and clean. The bungalow could do with a wooden garden seat outside the french window as there was a lovely view .Also new dining chairs ,as they were a bit on the wobbly side."
