Reviews
"This is was one of the best breaks we've ever had as family of 4 ,from the location through to attentive owners nothing was too much trouble and everything was catered for . This was the best log cabin we have had the pleasure of staying in , from the roaring log fire ( with free logs) to the excellent spotlessly clean hot tub, even little touches like the dvds and books made this feel like home and in John and Hele they are some of the best owners your likely to meet . If your looking for a luxury relaxing break where you can unwind then this is the place."
"My husband and I have just got back from a week at the George for our 10th wedding anniversary. It was fabulous, the cabin was larger than we expected but just perfect. The bed was huge with a comfy soft mattress and good quality bedding. The hot tub was very clean and super hot, it's great being in it when it's really cold outside. The wood burner was large and there was a constant supply of logs to burn. Fully fitted kitchen with loads of pots and pans so you can cook up a full meal if you wanted, or you can use the BBQ outside. There is no wifi and hardly and phone signal so it really is a place to just go and unwind. Who needs wifi when you can just sit in the hot tub with a G&T staring out at the landscape? It's good fun going to feed all the birds they have on site, especially the Rhea's who got all our peelings and spare veggies. We will defo go again when we need to de-stress again. Thanks to John and his fam for making our stay so special."
"The George was amazing, my husband and I stayed for a week in March and thoroughly enjoyed the peace and relaxation of the cabin and hot tub. Very quiet and almost in the middle of nowhere (nearest town, 1.5 miles, 20 min walk. Nice little pub, pool table, darts, serves good food). The cabin was well equipped, comfy and warm. You even get free firewood which is unusual for accommodations of this kind. We met Hele and George on arrival and they were friendly and helpful. Showed us around and how to use the tub, log burner etc. Would definitely consider staying here again."
"Myself, my partner and my Son (age 3) stayed at The George for a week mid November. It wasn't too hard to find as we followed the directions given to us from the Bettws Cedewain Village. The drive up to the Cabin is quite bumpy but it's farm land so we expected it and it made me feel safer about letting my son run about in the land as I knew any drivers were going slow. As we passed some chickens and ducks we could see the beautiful lodges up ahead 'The George' at the front. And a new addition 'The Bothy' which looks like it will be just as amazing when finished. From the moment we arrived we fell in love with the views. We were greeted by Hele who was very welcoming and showed us around the 'The George'. It's lovely and the pictures honestly do not do this place justice. The Kitchen is fully equipped with everything you can think of. The living room is spacious with a very nice log fire and the fire surround is gorgeous and a great feature. There are games and dvd's for when you want to stay in and enjoy the cabin. Beautiful views from the double doors onto the veranda and the hot tub is a perfect way to spend the evening and unwind, glass of wine in one hand looking out at the views and up at the stars. Just Perfect! The bedrooms are lovely too especially the kingsize bed which is so comfy. Every morning I sat outside with a coffee watching the ducks and chickens coming up the hill and the sheep walking down past the Cabin a lovely way to start the day. My son enjoyed feeding them each day and going on walks along the fields, listening to the owls and searching for 'The Gruffalo' by the woods. We met John who came to chat with us a few times throughout our stay. He's very friendly and should be proud of what he and his family have a achieved we can see from the photo albums in the cabin that alot of hard work has been put into creating their dream and that shows in the quality of the cabin. The surrounding area outside of the farm is beautiful to drive through. The local towns Newtown and Welshpool were not too far away with a tesco in Newtown and a Morrison's in Welshpool to stock up on anything you need. We went on a lovely train ride from Newtown Station to Aberystwyth through the hills with beautiful scenery. There's actually quite alot of local things to do if you look around. But we were quite happy to stay on the farm as we found plenty to do and my Son really enjoyed himself. A relaxing holiday, amazing scenery, beautiful cabin, friendly and welcoming owners. What more could you want. We will be back, and recommending to family and friends. Thankyou John, Hele and George"
"This log cabin is totally amazing. We stayed for a week there was 3 of us me (Michelle) my partner(chris) and my son (Jayden) who is 2 we just loved this place and we didn't want to leave. The log cabin was very well equipped with everything you could have needed and more. The super king size be was awesome and Jayden found the twin room great with the tv/dvd. Plenty of parking and space outside. The hot tub was the cherry on top of this very amazing place to stay. Beautiful views to wake up to and also our morning visitors the ducks and chickens. They will be very sadly missed. Hele John and George were so welcoming and friendly a great family with a great place to stay.it didn't bother us at all that there was a bit of a drive to the nearest town. The bad points well what bad points there is NONE!!! We totally loved the George and already planning our next holiday.. If you love the country and want a nice place to chill and enjoy your selves then this really is the place to be.."
"You can see from the photos that The George is something special. We have stayed in quite a few log cabins, and can honestly say that the spec here is vastly superior. Hele has decorated and furnished the interior beautifully. It really feels like home. Tea, coffee, sugar and milk were all provided, as were all the other essentials. There was a superb log-burning stove, which unfortunately we never got to use as the weather was so good. It must be very cosy and welcoming in the winter. We did feel that the provision of table/floor lamps would have been beneficial, as the high wall lights didn't give enough light to read by comfortably. Outside, the approach road is very bumpy and could probably do with some gravel being added to fill in the pot holes. However, the uneven surface does make visitors drive extremely slowly, so at least the chickens and ducks are safe from "mad" drivers. It was very enjoyable to be in the hot tub early in the morning and watch the mist roll up the valley before the sun broke through, and the valley seems to have its own pair of red kites which continually circled overhead. We loved having the chickens and ducks calling to see if we had any titbits for them, We kept hens for many years and miss having them now. It was a real delight to sit at the outside table with Dave (the cockerel), curled up contentedly at our feet. We are not sure if this would suit everyone, however, and perhaps the verandah should be fully enclosed to prevent any of the chickens actually coming onto it, so the guests can enjoy them at a distance if they prefer. The area around Bettws Cedwain is stunning. We couldn't find any signs for local footpaths,so had to go further afield. Walkers may find the lanes nearby intimidating, as they are narrow and twisty, with little or no verges, and the hedges on either side are very tall. A wonderful place to walk nearby is Gregynog Hall, a few miles away, where there are not only formal gardens, but many tracks through woodland and valleys with streams. For golfers there is a super course at Lakeside Golf Club, between Newtown and Welshpool, and they also do great lunches there. We wish the owners well with their plans for expansion and we hope all future visitors to The George have the same great weather as we did."
"The George was all that we could hope for, lovely quiet location. There was everything available in the cottage, could have cooked a 3 course meal. The owners were very helpful. and very friendly. The hot tub was very relaxing. We were sorry to leave."
