The delightful North York Moors village of Ruswarp is just two miles away from Whitby and on the boundary of the National Park. It offers visitors a range of facilities including a public house, general store and tearoom. The viaduct crossing the River Esk is constructed out of an astonishing 5,250,000 bricks, it is 120 feet high and it was built to carry the Scarborough to Whitby railway line. It is now known as 'The Cinder Track' and is used as a walk and cycleway. There is river and sea fishing to be enjoyed in the area or time can be spent boating on the river. Along with the famous North York Steam Railway, train buffs can appreciate a trip on Ruswarp's miniature steam railway. This village is in a tremendous area for an unforgettable holiday.

"Just spent 3 lovely days in this beautiful house 7 adults and 4 children. Plenty of room for our family gathering for new year. It has everything in it you could possibly need and fresh baked bread, biscuits and chocolates left for us on our arrival. Nice old pub just across the road and a nice 20 minute walk into Whitby. Would certainly recommend it"

"Spotlessly clean when we arrived, with the nice touch of a loaf baking in the bread machine. This property is ideal for a large group, family or otherwise, altough the stairs to the top floor bedrooms are a bit steep for anyone with mobility problems. Plenty of room to chill downstairs with a choice of two well furnished lounges. The dining room is a bit of a squeeze though. The main bedroom is very comfortable with an en suite and a four poster, the other four bedrooms also comfortable but not quite as posh. We walked into Whitby alongside the railway and river Esk. Scenic, fairly flat and took around 30 minutes. Highly recommend the village butcher."

"Right on the station at Ruswarp, with fabulous steam trains chugging past a couple of times a day, an easy walk into Whitby about 20 mins, or jump the local train 6-9 mins. Ruswarp has a brilliant butcher who's goods could feed you with something different for every day of your break, and pies and sausage rolls that will please the most discerning. The house is huge and well fitted out with good quality fixtures and fittings, and everything to make your stay easy, the quality of bed linen (feathers) for those with allergies, was top notch, and towels enough for all and thick and soft, Whitby well what can I say that hasn't been said, a great place with history, intrigue, old alleyways small bars, that sell good reasonably priced food and unique shops for all, the added bonus was the Goth weekend where all manner of beasties and Victorian steampunk, and costumes adorn the streets, my grandchildren loved these, and thank you to those who let us take photos, as my parting words give it a whirl take the whole family, oops go to Beacon farm for the best scones ever, and home made real ice cream, JUST LIVE AND ENJOY"

"had our week here and ive had an amazing time I can't fault, there's 11 of us here in total. a fantastic holiday let on the ruswarp station , seen the steam train which ended Oct 29th. there's a brilliant walk into whitby next to the line. the village is good quiet and out of the way way. the local pub is a massive walk away all of 10yards at least , i can't fault the place if im booking a large party highly recommend. to the the posh southerners if you don't like it and it's not your multi million pound house welcome t yorkshire and more shame on you not enjoying our countryside you can downgrade to lidl for you shop. but for me the place is stunning and the village is brilliant. full marks and more for this little gem "

"We had a large group holiday and booked this property and the Ticket Office, which is a small 2 person property attached to the Station House. There was enough parking at the property for 3 cars, 4 including the space for the Ticket Office. The first impressions of the property were that it was clean and very well cared for. There are so many rooms in this property that 12 people staying here would still not feel cramped. The location is the best thing about the property and we were able to watch the trains go by from the comfort of the sofas. The entire family had a wonderful stay at this property and would really recommend it for any family get-aways and even a large group of friends."

"A delightful, warm and comfortable house, plenty of room for a couple of families (but trickier if a group of adult couples). Parking is tight, in the village as well as in the designated area. Plenty of train spotting opportunities, circular walk to Whitby, close to loads of other good places to visit/walk. A lovely welcome (freshly baked bread and warmth of Aga) and a great week. All we wanted, and more! ?"

"Spent a lovely week here with friends. Lovely house , comfy beds and good facilities. Enjoyed rushing out to watch the steam train go by! Beautiful area and lots to see and do. Could do with a few more electric sockets .....I had to crawl under the double bed to reach an extension lead in order to plug in my hairdryer. The outside areas need a bit of a tidy up too."

"A lovely property with lots of character & original features. 2 large sitting rooms, dinning room, a well equipped kitchen/utility room & 5 bedrooms plus two garden areas. Went as a family group 0f 11 (3 generations from young baby to pensioner) & everyone enjoyed the stay. End of season but still boating, miniature train & soft play in village. Short walk along footpath into Whitby & access from garden to platform to watch the steam trains pass...."

"We stayed here as a Ruby Wedding celebration with our family including our baby grandson. Everyone agreed it was the best equipped place we had stayed in. The trains were an unusual and most enjoyable experience and we were able to welcome part of our family from London on the platform. Would love to return"

"Lovely large house suitable for large groups, very clean and well stocked with everything you may need during your stay. The trains stop right outside your door and while we were there the Santa Express stopped, which was lovely. Easy access into Whitby and surrounding area. There is a pub across the road but unfortuneatly they weren't serving food whle we were there. There is also a very good butcher just down the road which also serves bread, cakes, cold meats etc. Would definitely stay here again."

"This is a lovely home that is kept immaculately...unfortunately if you are vacationing with a few under 10 year olds its impractical...the stated 20 minute walk into whitby is only to the local car park. .its actually40 minute's into actual whitby bay area....there is also an early morning wake up call from the cement works which is directly behind the house 7:00 until 6:30 ever other evening The noise continues throughout the day....overall possibly a more suitable rental for a large group of adults...certainly not the family and animal friendly property advertised...kirsty torkington...family member visiting."

The Station House

"although this is a lovely house, it is full of far too many expensive ornaments to be child friendly, the downstairs shower door and en suite bathroom door did not shut properly, the walk to the beach at Whitby took us a good 40 mins, although you can get to the town car park in 20 mins. there is also a concrete block manufacturing works which backs onto the garden, which is quite noisy. if you want a holiday where the house is the main attraction then this is for you, but for a base for a family seaside holiday I would not recommend it"

"Good spacious accommodation. The aga in the kitchen was brilliant. However, the second double bedroom was a bit cramped. The pub over the road offered good reasonably priced food, and you only had to stagger across the road."

"This is the second time we have stayed here and have already booked again for next year! The house is in an ideal position, just a short walk from Whitby. Our granddaughter loved the trains literally passing the front door and was even more impressed when we actually boarded one for the short ride into Whitby. The rooms are spacious and well equipped kitchen. The owner even supplied bubble bath, which was a nice touch and there was a brand new BBQ which we were fortunate to use twice in the lovely enclosed, sunny courtyard."

"We visited as our family of 5 plus my parents. There was more than enough room for all of us with 2 large living rooms and 5 bedrooms. Having steam trains pass our window never got boring! There's a picturesque mile and a half walk into Whitby alongside the tracks, and Ruswarp is a perfect base to explore the coast and the moors. The house itself on three floors is stunning. We had fun using the aga and log fire, there are numerous bathrooms and comfortable beds. I can't imagine anyone being disappointed in this fantastic house."

"My wife and I took our 2 grown up children and their children to the holiday cottage for a week. The 2 four year old children thought it was marvelous that they could stand on the platform, watch steam trains go by and wave to the driver and passengers. There is a picturesque walk into Whitby with the railway line on your left and the River Esk on your right which takes about 20 minutes. The house is large and well furnished and we had a wonderful time there."

"This was the most money we had ever spent on a self-catering holiday. We chose the Station house as somewhere magical to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary and were not disappointed. The agar was a first time experience which created delicious breakfasts and, at the time of our stay, the Bridge Inn kept a good pint and served hot food. I thought my eighteen month old granddaughter would be too young to appreciate the steam trains but she soon had us all running out to wave to the choo-choo! We did not resent one pence of our outlay. The only problem was having to come home. We did not want to come home."

"Very helpful information prior to arrival by the owner. Plesant cottage with good facilities. ideal for large families, as there is plenty of space both upstairs and down. Ideal location; steam train passes the window four times a day which the grandchildren loved. Very close to Whitby. The buthers up the road highly recommended."

"The Station House is brilliant for a large family but equally as good if there are just a few of you. There were only 5 of us staying so there was plenty of room for us all. The house is well equipped and is very dog friendly with an enclosed paved area at the rear. The aga took a bit of getting used to but is lovely to sit next to on a chilly night with a good book. The sofa in the main living room looks comfy but needs some re-upholstering, you nearly sink on the floor! We met the owners on the last day, very friendly people."
