Caernarfon is one of the most historical towns in the United Kingdom: there are few others who can claim to have been continually inhabited since Stone Age times. Evidence of its history is most evident in the famous Caernarfon Castle, which began its construction in 1283 as a fortress, a seat of government and a home for royalty. The town itself is the site of many events and festivals throughout the year, such as the UK Strong Man Competition, the Caernarfon Festival and meetings of the North Wales Automobile Club. The Welsh Highland Railway offers trips through the region, where you can begin to fully appreciate the splendour of the region and you can take a boat out on a fishing trip from the local harbour. The town itself is well-served by restaurants and shops and its close proximity to the local beaches offer the chance to get the best of coast and country.
Reviews
"This house had a lot going for it. Located inside the city walls of Caernarfron. With a wonderful dinning room and plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms. It was described as "superb" on the Sykes website. Unfortunatly it wasn't clean, smelt and was very run down. The balcony that overlooked the Menai Straights which should have been the best feature of the house had two benches with flaking paint, a rusty barbecue and a few dirty plastic chairs. As we had 4 children under the age of 8 in our party,we were concerned about the glass in the doors in the rear lounge which came down to the floor an wasn't safety glass. With a good clean and a modest amount of money spent on it this could be a "superb" property, but at the moment it certainly isn't."
"Plenty of space for everyone. Great views of the Manai straits from from the wall and some bedrooms. Handy for the town and harbour areas. Dog friendly"
"We stayed here for a week in August with 3 other families. In total there was 20 in our group ranging from 7 to 55 yrs old. Everyone was catered for - playstations for the younger as well as free WIFI for the teenagers. There were televisions in most room. The kids had great fun in the Jacuzzi and the adults enjoyed the Shauna. Overall the house was very well equipped. The house itself is a little dated but suited fine to the rough and tumble of all the age groups. The bedroom were very comfortable. Lovely small garden out the back with a large BBQ. As the previous person said there was a fantastic view from the back wall. Would highly recommend staying here. We will definately return."
"We couldn't go to our original choice cottage due to the property being unavailable close to our holiday date. Sykes cottages were fantastic at offering an alternative, giving us time to consider and change our arrangeements and helping us, making the significant disappointment and problems much easier. The owner was clearly very understanding and that was our experience once there. The house suited our needs, the 'balcony' had a fabulous view and was used even in March. Sauna was enjoyed by the younger members of the party. The beds were particularly comfortable, views from upper rooms stunning, nearness of shops, cafe's pubs etc excellebt. the morning walks to the nearby swing park exercised the dog and kept the toddler happy. Kitchen very well equipped. Our only issue was the weight of the self closing doors (obviously fire regs) caused the older members of the party problems and presented an interesting challenge to the catering members of our large group when transporting food/cutlery/drinks etc from kitchen to dining room. loads to recommend it and very accurately described. We would all book with Sykes again. Also, we felt it was well priced and we had value for money."
