Achill is the largest of the Irish islands and is 57 square miles of stunning scenery. The island is linked to the mainland by the Michael Davitt Bridge so it is easy to access. The island has five blue flag beaches which are popular with water sports enthusiasts, but there are always secluded little spots tucked away if you want to get away from it all. There is some lovely walking to be had on the island as well as cycling and just driving round to admire the superb countryside. The island has a rich history waiting to be discovered, with a deserted village at Slievemore or the Tower at Kildavnet. This is a beautiful little island that makes it the perfect getaway for a holiday.
Reviews
"This property is situated at the bottom of a badly-mainiatined development of holiday cottages. The roads are full of potholes and the cottage is hemmed in by evergreen trees to the rear and has a view of another cottage to the front. The main photo in the ad is seriously misleading, since the surrounding countryside and sea can only be seen from a much higher position elsewhere in the development. This must be one of the few holiday cottages on Achill that does not actually have a view of the sea. The write-up is also misleading when it suggest that the cottage is well-placed for relaxing in a music pub in Westport. It omits to mention that Westport is a good hour's drive away on the mainland, along busy, winding roads and certainly not a journey you would want to undertake after a night in a pub. The cottage was not particularly clean on arrival and it is quite gloomy inside, the furnishings are basic and it is completely lacking in character, being a modern, cheaply-built structure. The manager's mobile just diverts to voicemail and you then get a text back. We did not actually get to meet her. Achill Island is indeed very beautiful and it has amazing scenery and beaches, where we had great fun with our pet dog. But we did not look forward to returning to Slievemore Cottage at the end of the day. There are far better options available."
"Myself and my brother and our little dog stayed here for a week from 21May and had an amazing time. The cottage was clean and welcoming when we arrived. We expected it to be cold but this was not a problem as there were heaters in every room which made to cottage so cosy. The cottage is so close to several of the wonderful beaches on Achill and the deserted village was only a few minutes drive. We came to Achill to do some bird watching so you can imagine our surprise when a Cuckoo sat calling in the trees outside our cottage on several occasions. We hope to go back to Achill again and would chose to stay here every time."
"We arrived Saturday 30th Jan 2016 for a week. The cottage was warm and very welcoming on entry. Mary the manager had the cottage perfect for us and our dog. The open fire was just ready to light for us. The kitchen was full of most every utensil you could think of. The weather was very changeable as Achill is well known for but we got out for plenty of walks on the beautiful beaches etc. Beds and cottage was spotless. Thank you..."
