Just eight miles from the bustling market town of Dorchester lies the quaint little village of Tolpuddle. Surrounded by glorious countryside, this charming settlement combines a tasteful mix of modern and thatched properties and is situated by the quaintly named 'River Piddle'. Nearby, the chalk downlands provide lovely walks through the gently rolling hills and quiet country lanes. Underlying its current tranquillity though, the village has a proud history and a local museum tells the story of Tolpuddle's six famous martyrs who held the first Trade Union meeting in 1831. The area boasts a number of other attractions, such as Athelhampton House, home to Lawrence of Arabia and the lovely nearby towns of Dorchester, Poole and Bournemouth. With such a wide variety of activities within easy driving distance, this lovely little location makes an excellent spot for an unusual and varied holiday.
Reviews
"The Hayloft is a tastefully decorated and well furnished cottage with lovely countryside views tucked away in a quiet spot on the edge of Tolpuddle. The cottage offers excellent self catering facilities and is in a good location for exploring Dorset. There is an enclosed child/ dog friendly garden at the rear. No local shops in the village, but there is a good pub/ restaurant (The Martyrs Inn) about 10 minutes walk away. Two of the three double bedrooms were a bit on the small side (for doubles) but perfectly okay."
"Second visit and hope to visit again soon. My wife who uses crutches and mother in laws who uses stick's to get around found the stairs no problem. The owners were around if you wanted them and were very helpful. Has ever thing you could want."
"Superb property with everything we needed and very good owners who left us alone unless we needed help One of the nicest properties we have so far rented Lovely countryside and handy to travel to all Dorset has to offer"
"We really enjoyed our stay at The Hayloft. The cottage is beautifully furnished, not like a typical holiday rental quality at all. We travelled with 2 youngish children and my older mum and the cottage suited us all - having 3 ensuite loos plus a downstairs toilet was a real bonus. Just a small thing - if you're taking a telly fan, the tv has very limited channels. There is a dvd player there though and we were so busy out enjoying the area it didn't matter to us. the garden is fully enclosed and safe for the dog and we we found the whole area to be really doggy friendly - including the pub 5 mins walk away that served lovely food and the stately home (Athelhampton House) down the road. Highly recommended."
"The cottage was great, with friendly owners, it was spotlessly clean and well equipped, we would visit again, fantastic views and well positioned for visiting places of interest,"

"We spent new year with friends in this beautiful well equipped cottage in lovely surroundings. Warm and cosy with a log fire and three en suites. Friendly landlady, close by for any queries. Local pub a short stroll away. Good country walks as well as coastal trails and places to visit. Ideal."
