This charming, rural village is surrounded by the Monadhliath and Grampian Mountain ranges and there is plenty of scope to explore the surroundings and maybe glimpse some of the amazing wildlife that lives in the area. TV's "Monarch of the Glen" was filmed around this location and Laggan was featured in the programme. Newtonmore is only eight miles away and overlooks the River Spey in the Cairngorms National Park. There are several shops and public houses and two award winning museums. Laggan's Wolftrax Mountain Bike Centre is close by and other outdoor activities available are pony trekking, walking, climbing, and bird watching. There is plenty to do in the area and Laggan makes a great base to see this part of Scotland.
Reviews
"On the first night you think you are in the middle of nowhere, but so many places are within 20 mins, and major cities in 60-90 mins. The house, this is no cottage, it is huge, is delightful, every need is catered for, the welcome is warm, the house big but cosy, and if the temperature drops the real fire is brilliant, and if it gets really cold, then the nearest distillery is only 10 mins away. Wildlife actually queues up to parade on front of the massive picture windows. It's just too good to keep secret. Phone signal is poor, and Internet non existent. Just what you want."
"We had a great time in this very clean well equipped cottage. The location was excellent for exploring in many different directions. We were kept well entertained by both the farm and wild animals and birds. We had a friendly welcome with milk in the fridge and some delicious home made cakes. We hope to go again next year as there is still a lot we want to see and do."
"We had a great time. We are four pensioners who explored the Highlands for the first time. The cottage is a little remote but it was fine for us. There were hares sitting on the front lawn in the evening and in the field across the road there were two deer. While out walking we came across a herd of deer crossing the road in front of us and a red squirrel in the woods. There was no wi-fi but that was a good thing. The family owners were lovely. We would definitely go back again."
"Staying at the Creag-Na-Sanais was a great choice. Peaceful , fantastic scenery and really family friendly. The cottage is kitted out with everything you need. The family who own it made us feel really welcome, but also left us to enjoy our holiday. Our little boy loved seeing and hearing the cows and sheep on their farm everyday. You cant just pop out to a shop, there's a fair bit of driving involved in the highlands but that's the beauty of the Scottish Highlands and around the Cairngorms. The roads are great. There is a fantastic remoteness up in the highlands , we did travel around to lots of different places and did a lot of driving. But it suits us as a family to explore and have that freedom to do so. We love Scotland. Coming from a beautiful part of the country already - cornwall, its a totally different feel and well worth visiting."
"This is a great location if you want to explore the Gairngorms and surrounding areas We were made very welcome and thoroughly enjoyed this peaceful location"
"What a wonderful place so quite it was our second visit we have already booked next year"
"Well kept & presented accommodation, lovely location, nice people. Your grid ref is wrong. We had difficulty finding it and had to knock on doors. The ref should read 640 930 (not 626 930) your ref locates "Lagg (cottage)""
"Spent a wet weekend walking the Monaliadth munroes. What a great feeling it was at the end of each day to return to the warmth and comfort of our cottage. It was like a home away from home. Clean, well-equipped, comfortable and, in the brief interludes between downpours, had some of the most stunning views. Our hosts were gracious and very friendly and we would definitely return, albeit at a time of year when we could enjoy the views more!"
"This was our second stay at the cottage. It's a stunning place with every covenience you could want for a comfortable holiday. Internally it is well equipped and spotlessly clean. The views are gorgeous and it is ideally placed for touring the Highlands. I'm sure we'll be back!"
"Our hosts were very welcoming, especially the homemade cakes! The house is the best we have stayed in with magnificent views. It is so relaxing and quite central for visiting nearby attractions. There is no mobile signal but a pay phone is in the house. This was a plus for us but may be a drawback for some."
"We found a dream cottage which was magnificantly equipped. It was homely and incredibly spacious. The views from each window were beautiful. The owners were very helpful and friendly. We saw lambs being born, cows and calves and even deer right from our window! We shall return!"
"thiswas our second time at the property and we dont think this will have been our last visit"
"Very warm welcome by the owners with excellent cake; wonderful surroundings; weather conditions very good; fantastic view of the wildlife from the dining room. We were glad to find this lovely cottage and hope that we come back!"
"This cottage is in a fabulous location, on a worrking farm near to the owners own farmhouse but has enough seclusion to make you feel you're on your own Scottish estate. The cottage is very spacious, immaculately clean and has everything you need for a home from home experience. It's an ideal base to explore the Cairngorms and surrounds. The owners are a marvellous couple, helpful and friendly but never intrusive. Excellent all round."
"Criag na sanis is a most wonderful cottage in an area of outstanding beauty. We have rented this cottage on many occasions since in came on line and it has not let us down once. it is a close drive to many wonderful places of interest especially if you like walking in the surrounding mountains and outstanding glens."
