The ancient market town of Ulverston is a settlement steeped in tradition. This charming retreat still holds a street market every Thursday and Saturday. Today it is best known as a festival town and hosts numerous events throughout the year. These include walking and art festivals in the summer months and the renowned Dickensian festival in late November. One of the town's most famous residents was Stan Laurel and Ulverston is now home to the only Laurel and Hardy museum in the world. Other facilities and points of interest include a wide range of shops, cafes, restaurants, pubs, a cinema and a leisure centre. Ulverston has managed to maintain an authentic feel and community spirit, despite its popularity as a tourist destination. The renowned Lake District National Park is within easy driving distance and the Furness Coast boasts sandy beaches and good birdwatching.
Reviews
"Arrived last week not knowing what to expect and found a diamond! Well appointed, clean and comfortable home with views to die for! The owners had thought of everything even down to a carton of milk in the fridge to go with the tea bags! All we needed was our luggage, a tranquil setting next to Conishead Priory with some lovely walks, no passing traffic the silence was quite surreal. We were blessed with lovely weather which added to the holiday , waking up each morning to a lovely sunrise! I cannot praise this lovely house enough and we are already looking to returning next year."
"Priory View is a little corner of wonderful nestling on the outskirts of Ulverston. The cottage itself is beautifully presented, warm, clean, well stocked and affords great views from every window. The garden is secure and there is off road parking. Its location also acts as a marvellous base for exploring the area. Whilst the owners left us to our own devices during our stay, they were very accommodating when we needed something. A short walk along a quiet lane leads to the Old Priory, now a Buddist Temple for world peace where visitors can take a look around, stop for morning coffee or even try a guided meditation. The grounds of the priory are woodland and offer a permissive walk through to the beach. The beach is pebble and mud flats so be aware and heed the warning notices. However, the stunning walks directly from the cottage are easy to negotiate and not excessively strenuous. We had our two dogs with us and found the owners genuinely catered to dog owners, plus the whole area is very dog friendly. We would also recommend a walk or short drive to the Old Farmhouse which cooks wonderful food and allows dogs in the bar and garden. A lovely stay, we would heartily recommend staying here and hope to return soon."
"Beautiful cottage - everything you could possibly need is supplied & more..... Perfect for family with two large dogs, enclosed garden, dog towels etc provided. 3 large bedrooms, wish we could wake up to the view everyday!! Fabulous walks literally on doorstep, thru woods onto beach. Local area great to explore, more wonderful walks, you must walk upto Hoad monument - view is amazing!! Take the train to Windermere and hop on/off boats for the day with the all day ticket. Dogs welcome everywhere so no need to worry about that. Discover waterfalls at Ambleside & drive Kirkstone pass for more fab views... Would not hesitate to recommend, would book again too."
"This cottage is beautiful and one of the best I have stayed in without a doubt! Immaculate, clean and so well equipped. It has everything you need-even dog towels! we stayed here with our dogs and family and it is wonderful for walks - five minutes to the beach. So peaceful-you can get away from it all and have quality family time. It is spacious and the beds are so comfy. Views are amazing. I was very pleased that it is very well enclosed for dogs so you can relax without fear of them getting out. Would recommend a walk to the old farmers pub for a meal. And definitely walk to Bardsea along the beach and get an ice cream from Roy's van. Perfect in every way and will definitely be back again!"
"This cottage is very special! The accommodation is very good quality with particularly pet friendly features. Very comfortable and clean, well equipped and the situation is stunning. A very comfortable holiday cottage for upto six people. Simple quick walk down to the beach through a wood."
"The whole stay was perfect, from the flowers and cake when we arrived, to the beautiful finish of the house and the pretty gardens. The setting was tranquil and stunning and we could have stayed forever. The owners had thought of everything and we instantly felt at home and comfortable. They even had dog towels! The pictures on the website don't do it justice, this house is far more stunning when you see it with your own eyes. We will be booking again."
