Situated just a short distance to the north east of Bassenthwaite Lake is the attractive village of Bassenthwaite itself. This charming settlement retains its traditional, rural feel and boasts a stream which winds through the outskirts of the village in addition to whitewashed Lakeland cottages, a well-maintained green and a real ale inn, full of character. Bassenthwaite Lake offers rolling hillside scenery and remains one of the most picturesque places in England. Points of interest nearby include Mirehouse - a grand home and gardens on the shores of the Lake - Trotters Farm, and Dodd Wood. Most of the attractions of the wider region are within easy driving distance whilst the quieter Northern Fells are almost on the doorstep. The towns of Cockermouth and Keswick and close by and both host weekly markets and a good range of other amenities.
Reviews
"The cottage itself is upside down, childrens and a double bedroom on ground floor, kitchen and living room upstairs with another bedroom (the main one really with ensuite) . The cottage had EVERYTHING you could ever need. I even found a sewing kit which was very useful. Owners thoughtfully left milk and tea / coffee etc as well as cake and Halloween themed decorations and chocolates for the kids. Beds are clean and comfortable, mattresses are in 'as new' excellent condition (yes, we looked) . This cottage is attached to others, one to the side and two more behind. It is easy to park and the games room was useful for dvds on an evening and games."
"Just got back from a weekend staying in Uldale holiday cottage. We had a fantastic time. The pictures on the website don't do it justice as it has been refurbished since then. The rooms are spacious and well laid out. The cottage is very well equipped and spotlessly clean. There are games and dvds to borrow, a games room which our 11 year olds and my 9 year old niece loved (and the dads!) and a swing. We arrived to find fresh eggs, which tasted amazing and cake... a lovely touch. The views are stunning. It is in a quiet area but that was a good thing for us, the children enjoyed looking for wildlife and being outside. Keswick is a 5 minute drive away if you need anything. We would not hesitate to visit here again. "
"The cottage was lovely and very clean it had everything you needed home from home. The photos on the website don't do it justice as it has been beautifully decorated since they were taken. The only negative thing I would say was it would of been nice to have wifi. I would definitely stay here again."
"This cottage is excellent, very clean and modern. It is in a fantastic secluded location, walking distance (if your family likes to walk) to Bassenthwaite Lake. The games room was great for younger and older children, as well as adults. I would thoroughly recommend it."
"A good base for walking in the lakes. Slightly too far from pub to walk due to time of year (October) but fabulous pub which we visited regularly. Barn conversion immaculate and good for two dogs and two families including teens but only downside was not enough room to dry out wet clothing (wettest trip to Lakes so far!). Would definitely recommend as had great welcome pack to get us started which included home made cake!! Also spotted red squirrels in the garden."
"Due to all sorts of reasons we left booking a cottage to the last minute...crazy, bearing in mind that it was coming up to the bank holiday weekend! We came across this cottage and though we could only get 3 nights as they were fully booked up it was well worth it! The rooms were spacious with the added bonus of the upstairs room having an ensuite, the two downstairs rooms shared a bathroom. Beds were comfortable and the sitting room area was spacious and homely. Plenty of books and brochures for everyone to plan what to do. Upon arrival there was some eggs, milk and a cake to welcome us...a very nice touch! It was a quiet and lovely place to start our holiday in the lake district with...watch out for the man eating squirrels and free range children :)"
