Just two miles to the east of Pickering, the beautiful village of Thornton-le-Dale lies within The North York Moors National Park. This charming little village has a complicated shape and is comprised of a fascinating labyrinth of streams and paths which run between the pretty houses and around the village green, which still has its wooden stocks and a market cross. Hidden amongst the beautiful houses is a selection of shops, pubs and tearooms whilst the nearby market town of Pickering offers a further range of essential services as well as the North York Moors Steam Railway. The Forestry Commission woodland at Dalby is worth a visit and has several excellent nature trails to be enjoyed whilst slightly further away is the historic cathedral city of York with its huge range of shops, cinemas and museums.

The Old Coach House

"The cottage is very spacious and the area is lovely. The actual cottage has so much more potential. The rooms were big but the beds were small and bedding skimpy. The towels were thin and worn. The amount of crockery and cutlery was not overly generous e.g.. no potato masher. The water pressure was the worst problem. In the bathroom of the 2nd bedroom if two people used the toilet after each other as they might before going to bed or in the morning the toilet did not have enough water to flush the second time. The bath took 10 minutes to fill to a couple of inches. A bit of money spent could make it so much better."

"This is a lovely cottage, extremely well renovated by the friendly owner. The village is a good base for loads of excellent walks and is itself worth spending time in - not to speak of the nearby forest walks, stately homes, gardens, and other places of interest."

"This lovely cottage is really comfortable and ideal for less abled people as it is all on one level. All rooms are nicely decorated and plenty of towels provided in the bathrooms. There is parking and also a small seating area outside where you can catch the sun. We have been here before and would return. It is in a quite location a short distance from the village centre (which can get quite busy) and so its peaceful and not on a main road. I dont want to make it sound too good otherwise I will not find a free week next year to book again."

"The welcome was friendly and relaxed. The converted barn was very spacious and the beds really comfortable. We had everything we needed (except that we forgot to bring towels and had to buy some). Apart from needing a new set of saucepans, the barn was well equipped. The furniture and some utensils are a bit old fashioned, but this added to the charm. The location was absolutely fabulous, just a roll on your bike downhill to Thornton-le-Dale, really close to the Dalby Forest and easy traveling distance to the dramatic North Yorkshire Moors and stunning coastline. A fantastic place to stay for an action packed family holiday. We would love to come back."

"A very immaculate 2 bedroom property everything is of the highest standard a credit to the owner. Thornton-le-Dale is very picturesque village and is an ideal place to tour the West Yorkshire Moors only 2 miles from Pickering and well worth a steam train ride across the Moors is also nicely position for visiting Scarborough Filey Briddlinton and the coast we would not hesitate in returning in later years."

"We really enjoyed our stay at the property Ref 1754 at Thornton le Dale. It was very relaxing and comfortable. The only problem we had was my mother being disabled she had a problem going up and down the step to and from the kitchen. The bedrooms were very comfortable and peaceful. We found Thornton le Hole very pretty and laidback and would deffinatly return. We would recomend this property to anybody who would like a base to stay while traveling the North York Moors and surrounding area."
