Visitors are drawn to the village for its fine looking 12th century church and its close proximity to the attractions and amenities of some charming historic towns including Malvern, Tewkesbury and Ledbury. These towns, which are situated close to the borders of Herefordshire and Worcestershire, are characterised by their unusual and striking black and white houses, their hospitable old inns, good restaurants and interesting shops. Upton-on-Severn, which offers welcoming pubs, a picturesque marina, a riverside location and regular boat trips, is also close by. Stunning countryside is all around here, and there is an abundance of historic buildings and gardens, fascinating museums, castles, and railways within easy touring distance.
Reviews
"Rickyard Cottage is warm and welcoming and lives up to the billing on the Sykes website. Lying in the lee of the Malvern Hills, it's pretty isolated so a vehicle is essential, but the nearest pub is just a 15 minute stroll down a country lane. A well stocked shop and coffee house can be found in Welland about 1.5 miles away. The cottage's central heating is more than adequate, but there is a log burner too to add atmosphere. This is excellent walking country. Castlemorton Common, once infamous for an illegal rave, is just a couple of hundred yards from the cottage while the attractive towns of Ledbury and Great Malvern, with it's superb priory, excellent theatre and Morgan Car museum and shop are within a short car journey."
"I would say it was 10 out of 10 apart from the fact that there was rubbish left in the bin from the previous holidaymakers which was not at all welcoming and some of the crockery in the kitchen was not at all clean. It was very comfortable and roomy which was great for the 4 of us. There was plenty of hot water and heating which was lovely as it was a rather rainy week! Lovely location with lots of nice walks around. Lovely and peaceful and hardly any Mobile Phone reception which was bliss!! Log fire an added bonus!"
"A lovely, warm, homely cottage in a great location. Handy for exploring the Malvern Hills. Two pubs, both offering food, within walking distance. We had a very friendly welcome, (complete with milk in the fridge, lemon cake and a bottle of local wine!) from the owners who then left us in peace to enjoy our stay, but we knew they were around if we needed anything. Unfortunately, the weather was very unseasonal for Easter, so we were unable to take advantage of the (unheated) conservatory which had pleasant views of the orchard and hills (although the latter were mostly obscured by trees). We stay in a cottage every year for a week of the school Easter holidays, and have never yet returned to the same one twice. However, we have promised ourselves to return to this one, when the weather is better, so that we can enjoy the conservatory and further explore the area without snow on the ground! I was almost reluctant to leave a good review, because we'd like to keep this little gem to ourselves! :-)"
"Lovely stay at Rickyard Cottage. Owners were so welcoming. Holiday in the Malverns every year to see extended Family. Have a disabled son, so this cottage was unique and a most wonderful location for his needs. Very highly recommended this cottage, in this most tranquil area. Just a few days for relaxation or walking on the common/hills. Our case a 2 week stay...; ))"
"This year is our third visit to Rickyard. The cottage is always clean, comfortable, quiet place to stay. The owners are very welcoming and friendly. There is a bottle of wine in the fridge and a supply of tea, sugar and coffee to start the holiday off. The area is outstanding with lovely views. All in all it is a great place and one we will be going back to. I really do not have enough praise for Rickyard."
"It was our second visit to Rickyard Cottage and we liked our holiday so much again that on returning home we immediately booked for 2012. The cottage had all that we required. It is located in an ideally at the bottom of the Malvern Hills, it is clean, quiet, well positioned for touring, and all in all everything we require. We can not wait for our holiday next year."
"superb location, garden, cottage. able to relax, explore locally and further afield. Vrey well appointed accommodation, exactly as advertised."
"A super location with plenty to see and do within a short distance regardless of age and we were all retired."
"A lovely cottage in a beautiful setting. Well equiped and very comfortable. Lovely area with easy access to a host of places and easy walking onto the Common from the cottage. We had a lovely week there and will return in the future."
"Lovely cottage with fantastic garden, nice hosts, good location if you like walking/hiking."
"Home from home comfort away from the stresses of everyday life. Easy access to Malvern and lovely countryside. Why would you not want to stay around here?"
"We had a wonderful week in this cottage. It was clean and comfortable and had everything that we could possibly need. The location was perfect for us, the common is only a few minutes walk away, the Malvern's made for a lovely walk out from the cottage, as did Eastnor Castle. We found an excuse to stroll out in the evening to the very handy local pub, which also does food. There was also the best nightsky I have ever seen, just try lying out on the decking and looking for shooting stars. Magic!"
