The village is a place where you can truly get away from it all, but is also easily accessed from the M50. The rural beauty of the village has remained virtually unchanged for centuries, and the countryside all around with its rolling hills, lush pastures and woodland is gloriously unspoilt. Nestling on the banks of the River Wye, Hoarwithy is home to a beautiful Italianate church, a superb pub with a restaurant and wonderful walking opportunities on the doorstep. Picturesque Ross-on-Wye is close by, and if you venture a little further afield you will find the historic cathedral city of Hereford, the incredible Wye Gorge at Symonds Yat, the Forest of Dean, and the gateway to Wales, Monmouth.
Reviews
"Enjoyed our stay in healers cottage, cottage has all you need including wi-fi, very peaceful just birds, also added bonus the donkeys who can make you laugh. Nice to have walks through the woods from cottage, country lanes can be narrow, but not far to Ross on Wye. Sheila's very nice ( the owner ) about if you need her but not intrusive, can use her washing machine if it's needed. So looking to go back next year"
"This is the perfect place to come for peace and quiet. Sitting outside the cottage, the only sounds are birdsong and the friendly and inquisitive donkeys, who belong to the owner. The cottage is cosy and comfortable, with everything needed for a self-catering stay. The local area offers great natural beauty, with walks by the river nearby, or in the woods surrounding the property. I was sorry to have to leave, and will definitely be visiting again."
"This cottage is just the place to" recharge your batteries" and get away from it all. Built in the middle of Ballis Wood next to the owner's own property,it is perfect if you enjoy walking and enjoying the countryside. The owner is a very nice lady, very helpful if you need anything, but will leave you in peace. Her donkeys are lovely and will come to visit you daily especially if you happen to have some carrots! The Cottage is very well equipped and comfortable. The shower is excellent and there's plenty of hot water. Our dog had a lovely time walking through the woods. You do need a torch though, as it's very dark on those early morning and late night walkies! Ross on Wye is about 7 miles away and has a large Morrisons and will soon have an Aldi. We enjoyed the 3.5 mile John Kyrle walk which takes you along the river and through some of the town. You need a car of course as the cottage is quite remote, but it's a wonderful base to return to at the end of a busy day sightseeing. We were very sorry to leave and look forwards to our next visit."
"The lady owner was very nice and friendly. The cottage was absolutely perfect if you like peace and quiet and isolation. The donkeys were friendly and loved to come and see us. Situated right in the woods with no other residence in sight except for the owner*s house. It was very comfortable. The only possible downside were the horseflies but to be expected as there were donkeys in the field."
"This was one of those special cottages that ticked all the boxes. Well furnished, everything there that you might need, warm, cosy, and picturesque. We will certainly return for another week of heaven. The area is excellent for walking, including on the property, where there is extensive woodland and path, with wide variety of animal life, to say nothing of the donkeys in the paddock itself. The owner was very helpful but not intrusive."
"If you are looking for a place for relaxation and peace - this is it. Lovely cottage set in woodland away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Accommodation very spacious and full of character. Wonderful donkeys in the surrounding fields who were more than ready to be friendly, especially when there were carrots and apples on offer! Lots of relevant information available with suggestions for places to visit or to eat. Loved our stay and would thoroughly recommend to others."
"Healers cottage is aptly named. For us it provided a perfect sanctuary to escape our routine and truly unwind in a peaceful, picturesque setting. Superbly appointed, well managed, we would highly recommend it."
"Our third annual visit and as always a joy to amongst calm and beautiful countryside in a comfortable cottage--our two irish setters love the woods(and Donkeys)hope to be back next year"
"you could not ask for better, very helpful and pleasant owner.A lovely place to stay if you want a nice quiet break.you will love the donkeys"
"An excellent cottage in a gorgeous location - with the added bonus of the donkeys! Perfect to "get away from it all"."
"Healers cotage is one of our favorite spots for holiday's The cottage is well equipt with interesting books There is a log fire with plenty of fuel making for a very cosy time Outside the cottage is the owners private woodland making the dogs stay also very enjoyable Locally there are several places to eat. Everything about the cottage is clean and welcoming, and finally the donkeys looking at you over the fence is quite delightful."
"On a last minuate decision to have a late holiday we choose this one,it was situated in a lovely quiet area the cottage itself was well equipted and mantained, near to Hereford, local pubs, restaurants, plenty of nearby walks and with the friendly neighbours of the donkeys who visited us every day we had a really enjoyable holiday. Our only gripe was the lane up to the cottage was very wet and muddy."
"We had an excellent week at this cottage with a warm welcome from the owner and her delightful donkeys. The directions to the cottage need improvement but once found in its very isolated setting it was delightful. It was a good place from which to explore the area and certainly had all the right ingredients to make it a home from home holiday."
"the service and welcome we received were very exceptional...the home had everything you needed...home from home....very comfortable... the donkeys were very friendly and good company at tea time.....although out of the way it was very peaceful and quiet... local amenities were a drive away but if you want a quiet life away from hustle and bustle this cottage is what you need...there was nothing we didnt like...and the lady who has the cottage was very friendly and accomodating...definately would stay there again"
