Reviews
"All our family stayed for a week,( 11 of us) it is the best equipped house we have stayed in. Very clean, warm, comfortable and huge. The pool is a added bonus warm with a changing area the grandchildren were never out of it. As a family we loved staying there and would love to return."
"A group of 10 of us stayed at The Trainers House to celebrate my 30th Birthday in December 2018. The house was huge, plenty big enough for 10 people - could have easily fit more. The sitting area was really spacious and perfectly set out for a large group, as was the kitchen with two large tables and plenty of seating. The kitchen had everything you could need (we did a huge Christmas Dinner and there wasn't anything we needed that we couldn't find). The fridge is plenty big enough, the freezer is on the small side if you're thinking of bringing any frozen items but there is also a small freezer in the stop of the fridge in the utility room/bar room next to the living area. The garden is huge and would be gorgeous in summer, one thing worth noting is that the property is advertised as dog friendly but there are gaps in the hedge towards the front of the property so the garden isn't enclosed and it does lead onto quite a busy road. If you have a small dog make sure you keep a close eye on them as our dog ran through the hedge onto the main road twice which meant we had to prevent him from having full use of the garden off his lead which was a shame - but this wouldn't stop us staying and bringing our dog with us again, just something worth keeping an eye out for! The horses are really friendly we fed them a small amount of carrots daily, they come right up to the garden to see you if you call them, but at the same time if you don't like horses they wouldn't be any bother. The pool was one of the highlights of our stay, it's much bigger than it looks on the pictures. We all had a great time in there and took loads of inflatables - it's very warm, too. All of the bedrooms are spacious with a few en suites, there are three showers to use including en suite bathrooms which was plenty for a group of 10. There's a downstairs WC and a main bathroom on the first floor. Dave was super helpful and nothing was too much trouble, any questions we had were answered straight away and he was happy to provide more newspapers and kindling for the fire when we ran out. We loved our stay and if we were to plan another group trip away I wouldn't hesitate in booking The Trainers House again!"
"Had a great long weekend here. The house was fabulous- so much room and family dogs were welcome. The swimming pool proved very popular!"
"Stayed at the trainers house for my 60th birthday. Age ranges from 3 to 86. Huge house, loads of space for kids to run around. Mix of old and new and was just a great place to stay. Indoor private pool was the icing on the cake, kids were in at least twice a day. Would recommend to anyone."
"First class house and facilities. Pool warm and fantastic. We were 8 adults 5 Grandaughters and a toddler we were all happy. Thank you we will return."
"Absolutely brilliant house, full of character and you could get lost in all the rooms.all rooms are spacious and fully equipped for the larger families( 6 adults and 7 children). The kitchen is fully equipped to be able to cook with all the utensils and crockery and spacious enough accommodate around the kitchen table for all the family and more. You could easily play hide and seek and lose one of the people. Ian and Dave are always available for help and advice. There are plenty of places to visit within a few miles and there are a variety of leaflets available to choose from. The stables next store are Wonderfull for the children and the staff are very helpful and always on hand to answer questions and the horses are so cute. The icing on the cake is the 25 foot swimming pool and again fully equipped for the latter families my family were never out of the pool.A variety of games and DVDs are available and a good source of entertainment for adults and children. Would 100% recommend to family and friends and hope to visit again in the near future."
"You could not be disappointed with this wonderful house. Amazing space and so warm and welcoming. Beautiful views from every window. The swimming pool is fantastic and was the icing on the Christmas cake."
"A fantastic venue whether you're staying out or if you plan to tour this part of Yorkshire. Accessible with ease as it lies 3 miles of the A64. Make no mistake, this is deep Yorkshire countryside, good for walking but also for access to so many other parts including the East coast. The house has a great country feeling to it, particularly the tiled kitchen with its two large country wooden tables to eat off. The lounge area is massive where many can take advantage of the log burning fire. Bedrooms are large with good bathrooms either on suit or close by. The swimming pool, housed in an adjacent building is an excellent addition to the facilities, our grandchildren loved it. The stable yard on site is a going concern and provides contact with the horse residents. If this is not to your liking it's perfectly ok as you don't necessarily have to come in contact with the horses if you do not wish to. All in all, this is a great Venus for for all"
"This was the perfect venue for a Christmas getaway. The house was very clean with plenty of kitchen utilities to cook for 12. We were also pleased to have enough towels for bathing and the swimming pool. We will definitely be back here in the future!"
"Our daughter and children were visiting from Australia and we decided to have a holiday with them, to include our son and his family. We picked North Yorkshire as a good half way point and booked The Trainers House which was perfect in every way, Our party consisted of five adults and five children so there was loads of room for us. It's location 3 miles from the market town of Malton and 6 miles from Castle Howard plus its proximate to York and Scarborough gave us many options for visits. We were met on arrival by Dave England, the property manager, who gave us a tour of the house and provided all the help we needed. He was a wealth of information about the area and took the time to make sure we knew we could always contact him if there were any issues to be resolved or advice needed. The card, flowers and wine were a lovely welcome. The house is well laid out, the comfortable bedrooms are spread out through the house and the bathrooms well positioned. The attic bedroom was commandeered by the older children which worked for the adults too! The kitchen is very well equipped and the two dining tables were ideal. We had five children (aged 4yrs to 9yrs) on one table and the adults on the other, just perfect. The lounge is huge and very light and airy, it has different seating areas so you can all be together or just read and relax. The garden was well used by the children and the outside table and chairs accommodated us all. Last but not least was the swimming pool which was brilliant. It was used every day and gave so much pleasure to everyone. It provided a relaxing and fun end to each day. We visited the pub in Westow, the Blacksmiths Arms, on two occasions and the food was lovely. We had a great time in the house and were reluctant to leave. Thank you again to Dave for all his help."
"What a lovely week we've had at The Trainer's House. The house doesn't lack anything - plenty of crockery and cutlery and even baking equipment. Washing machine saw daily action with ten adventurous children in situ! The pool was a HUGE success and the kids swam at least once a day. They also made friends with Rio, Biscuit, Flash and Tinker in the stable yard. The most notable thing however was how lovely Dave, the caretaker was - he even lent us a hammer and chisel in case we found a dinosaur at the beach :-)"
"Went with friends and family to celebrate my 60 th birthday and what a beautiful house and place to do it the house is amazing pool lovey and lovely walks can't say anything negative about this place a good place to visit is the Robert E Fuller art gallery at Thixendale well worth a visit and thanks to Dave who was at the end of the phone if needed would certainly go back ."
"We had a perfect welcome , with an informative tour of the house from Dave. Wine and flowers on the table. We were all blown away with the house , it literally has everything you need , spacious light rooms, beautiful safe grounds, local walks, divine swimming pool . You really do not need to use the car for the entire stay. The trainers house is the quietest property I have ever stayed in and we are already talking about and planning a return visit. Thank you to all concerned for a truly amazing relaxing holiday."
"We took our three children their spouses and our five grandchildren ages between 12 to 2 years . What a fantastic place for all. so spacious plenty of running about without the fear of hurting themselves or damaging any thing. Spotlessly clean throughout and lovely comfy bedrooms. The pool was a huge success for all children would have stayed in all day if left. The horses also added an extra attraction plus the lovely walks into the woods , we came across a badger on one evening walk which was exciting. A very warm informative welcome from Dave with a thorough tour of the house which helped to start the holiday. Many thanks for a pleasant stay would love to go again."
"Just come back from a fantastic weekend break with friends. Rooms are clean and very spacious. Six couples stayed in the property and we never felt like we were on top of each other. All rooms and pool were immaculate. David was extremely knowledge and helpful with great recommendations of what to do and where to eat."
"Brilliant, Amazing house, friendly owners and perfect for our annual large family holiday."
"We received a real welcome including a guided tour and details of local walks and pubs. There was also a couple of bottles of wine, fresh flowers and a welcome card. The house was fantastic, real luxury and comfort. So convenient for a family of 14 of mixed ages. There was nothing that we needed that was not there. The children of course loved the swimming pool, we older folk enjoyed the super lounge and the private bedroom for granny and grandad. What we liked least was having to leave at the end of the week. We could not fault anything."
