Renowned for its history and race horses, the attractive Wensleydale town of Middleham is dominated by its Norman castle, dating from 1190. This impressive structure boasts a castle keep, second in size only to the Tower of London. The town's market square has been cobbled and is home to a wide range of shops, pubs and places to eat, though for more choice, the bustling town of Leyburn is just a short drive away. The Forbidden Corner, a unique labyrinth of tunnels, chambers and surprises is also close by and is located in four acres of grounds. "The coach house had everything we needed and more for our week's holiday. I've never stayed in a more well-equipped accommodation, including such small attention to detail like treats and poo bags for the dogs (I had brought my own but found this very thoughtful), and more than enough throws and towels, and a wonderful CD collection for us to use that made us all envious! (we decided it was definitely our era). To top it all, Sarah made us a victoria sponge cake to die for. Middleham is such a lovely little village with plenty of places to eat, and the perfect location for exploring the Yorks Dales. We also managed to go the other way, to Whitby. All in all, the perfect stay. We were so happy here, thank you."

"The Coach house was a first class holiday rental; living up to expectation. It was roomy with everything we needed. Tucked away behind the owner's B&B it had the luxury of a great garden and deal great deal of privacy. Tucked away in the town of Middlehem it was well situated for exploring the Yorkshire Dales, without the hustle and bustle of the larger towns on the main tourist routes. The accomodation was just across the road from the magnificant Middleham castle, sronghold of Richard III. The owners, were hospitable, very welcoming and nothing was to much bother. Thank you for the first class and very moreish chocolate cake. Thoroughly recommended."

"A wonderful place, tucked away from the main road, enter through an archway into the peace and tranquillity of this magical garden, an old folly looking rather like a castle wall at the bottom of the lawned garden gives a truly magical quality to this self catering accommodation. The Coach House itself is a really good size, large extremely well equipped kitchen, lots of pots and pans for your use, a big range cooker, for me a dream kitchen. Lounge is a good size also with three big squashy sofas, lots of room for us plus two dogs. Upstairs our bedroom was en-suite with another three seater sofa in, excellent for a lazy hour reading if you so wish, a balcony with French doors and patio set where we would sit and have our morning coffee listening to the birds singing their spring chorus. The bed was a super king size, and the bedding pure cotton of the very best quality, and luxury of a feather duvet, which was the case for all the beds, the bonus of lots of gorgeous smellies also provided, along with big white fluffy towels. The joy every night of an owl hooting at bedtime, this we found great pleasure in, laying listening to him, a rare event these days, we loved it.We feel nothing has been spared in making this a wonderful self catering place for friends and families, and will be booking again next year. The magic of the horses going to and from the gallops in the mornings is great to see, we love Middleham and to us it is truly still a bit of true England to enjoy in an often mad world these days. A heartfelt thank you also to our hosts Chris and Sarah for providing everything we needed, including a SCRUMMY coffee cake, and spotless accommodation."

"Well-located just off the main square in this attractive, small market town which has its own castle and racing stables - watching the horses in the morning was a real pleasure. The Forgotten Corner, Aysgarth Falls and Based are nearby so there's plenty to do. The house is comfortable, attractively presented and well-disposed. We hope to return in the summer."

"We love Middleham and have been twice before this visit, but we hadn't stayed in The Coach House. On arrival we were shown round the cottage by the owner Chris and we were not disappointed. From immaculately clean rooms to lovely shower toiletries, to fluffy white bath robes in each room, this was a fantastic home from home. We had everything we needed..except WiFi connection, however, faced with a week without it and three teenagers armed with iPhone and iPads we were not looking forward to the week. They amazed us by actually talking to us, reading books, from the extensive collection in the cottage, and even playing chess. WiFi is not needed Chris, I take it back!! We tried the fabulous cakes on offer in the owners Tea Rooms at the front of the cottage and were even given a tour of the guest house. If you need a luxury place to stay for a few days, ask for Room Six!!!! its amazing. None of us wanted to come home, it really is a great place to stay, the Town is lovely, it has four pubs all doing food, a lovely little grocery shop and its a great base for exploring the Yorkshire Moors. Get up early and watch the race horses going up to the gallops for their morning exercise or better still go up to the gallops to watch them. Cant wait to visit again, thanks Chris and Sarah for a lovely time and LUSH banana cake! x"

"This property is so lovely. Very cosy, warm and welcoming. Nice and spacious. The beds and bedding are high quality. Lots of towels supplied and fab smellies. Nice space outside to sit and have a nice glass of wine. (Could do with being a bit more private though). The owners are very friendly and helpful. Also made the best chocolate cake ever tasted :) Middleham is a pretty village with the amazing castle and views. We had a few lovely walks too. The village is close to many fabulous places to visit. Bolton Castle, Jervaulx Abbey, Malham, Hawes, Brimham Rocks. Even little Wensley with its waterfall and candle workshop. Views galore whether ever you go. I will miss it! A few cons....second bedroom could do with a kingsize in there as a double for the week was a bit of a squeeze and uncomfy. A cot and hairchair are supplied which is great but we could have really done with a stairgate too. The toaster in the kitchen is just a 2 slicer and when the property sleeps 8, it means breakfast takes a long time! Also it gets very hot on the outside and burnt all of us at some point! Not sure there is much they can do about this but a property of this size could do with a downstairs loo. A bigger fridge also would help, again as it sleeps 8, you need more storage space. The kitchen is big enough for a tall fridge freezer. And last one, a tumble dryer would be helpful as you can't always rely on the weather to dry the clothes (more pegs needed too) All in all we had a fantastic time and would all happily go back there."

"This beautiful cottage is in a peaceful location in the pretty little village of Middleham. Well equipped and spacious with a lovely terrace off the master bedroom, plus use of the owners' garden. Chris and Sarah were friendly and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble for them. Bed was the most comfortable we have ever slept in. Village has plenty of options for eating and the locals very friendly. Great base for visiting the area and for beautiful walks. Should we return to Middleham in the future then we would DEFINITELY stay in the Coach House."

"Warm, friendly welcome, very spacious, clean cottage. Bed extremely comfortable with good quality mattress and linen. Nice range of complimentary toiletries. Excellent complimentary banana cake provided on arrival. Nothing too much trouble for the owners who live in the attached guest house and are available 24/7 should you need them. Location is very quiet but within easy walking distance of a variety of pubs and an excellent restaurant called Fairhursts. An extra bonus for us was that it is completely dog-friendly."

"Sarah and Chris were the perfect owners, friendly, thoughtful, helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Sarah made us a cake on arrival which was lovely and suitable for the baby in our party who cannot eat dairy. The accommodation was spacious and comfortable, the master bedroom was lovely including a balcolny. We had a perfect week exploring the area and loved watching the horses coming through the village up to the gallops. The village has everything you need with plenty of pubs and a village grocery with anything you may need. We all had a fantastic time and would recommend it to all who want to explore the area."
