The market town of Leek is situated on the western side of The Peak District National Park and is surrounded by lovely Moorland countryside. The town has a charming cobbled market place and there are many examples of fine Victorian architecture - a reminder of the town's prosperity when it was renowned as a silk manufacturing centre. Today Leek offers a wide selection of shops including vast antique emporiums, bookshops and galleries and there is good selection of restaurants and real ale pubs. Alton Towers is less than 15 minutes drive away.
Reviews
"A beautiful barn conversion, the views from the lounge and kitchen are amazing and the location of the barn is absolutely fantastic, so nice to be away from it all, we were dreading leaving today as we loved it so much. All the bedrooms were comfortable with quality furnishings and linen. We were very impressed with the level of detail from start to finish. David and Judy were a pleasure to communicate with prior to our visit, a warm welcome when we arrived late Friday evening with delicious bread (my favourite ) beautiful brownies and other goodies given to us on arrival. The little things made such a big difference - folders of information for our stay, ideas on walks etc This barn was so comfortable and clean, it really was like home from home. Well done 'The Barn at Hillhouse' definitely 10/10 for us - We shall see you again The Johnson / Dickerson families"
"So pleased we found this property when searching for a weeks break for 6 of us. The property is so well equipped and thought out with little touches some other places lack e.g. bins in each room, mirrors, hooks etc. The decor, cleanliness and style is all top notch with the main bathroom floor being a highlight to us! (Heated and funky!) The pictures don't do the size justice i don't think as it was roomy even with 5 adults plus 1 child running around. The views are nothing short of spectacular and if you are lucky you will see the hot air balloon in the distance (we did twice). Owners are v.friendly, helpful and accommodating without being intrusive. As others have mentioned the brownies as part of a welcome treat are divine! The remoteness to any shop etc didn't bother us and being out and about everyday also didn't feel like you drove miles before getting anywhere so don't let that put you off. All in all can't wait to find an excuse to go back! View from the sofa attached plus a shot of the balloon!"
"We booked a 5 day 'coding retreat' to get some work done on our new software product but we got hit by Storm Emma and we were snowed in for an extra 2 days. The cottage was perfect, warm and cozy even as the storm raged and the drifts piled up. The internet connection was superb and we had no trouble getting our work done, well, apart from spending too much time enjoying the fantastic views. The owners were very helpful and gave us wine, fresh bread and brownies to help ward off the cold."
"The Barn is a high quality conversion. Very comfy bedrooms, amazing view from the kitchen/lounge, good location for local walks and so on. The really important thing is that the owners put a lot of thought into the details - for example, marking the calendar with interesting events, good bread and brownies in the welcome package, loads of personal recommendations and directions for walks, pubs, restaurants, and sightseeing, taking care over configuration of bedrooms. They do a great job."
