On the edge of Burnmoor is the tiny hamlet of Tatham. High above the traditional Yorkshire market town of Bentham and overlooking The Great Stone, this wonderful hamlet is well-situated to see all of Lancashire and Yorkshire. The Great Stone of Fourstones itself is a relic from the Ice Age, standing on the boundary between counties and has become a notable feature of the landscape. From here it's possible to see the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales National Park and The Forest of Bowland, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Visitors can use this wonderful little hamlet as a base for walking holidays across the famous three peaks of Ingleborough, Whernside and Pen-y-ghent whilst the less active may enjoy the range of amenities at nearby Bentham. These include a good variety of shops and a range of pubs and restaurants.
Reviews
"This is a marvellous house. So much room , for 3 generations and a dog. Very comfortable, warm and well equipped. Lots of walks in the area. Beautiful. Lovely owners."
"What can I say apart from this was one of the best places I've ever stayed & I've been all over Briton & Europe! The are was outstanding with amazing walks & bike rides. And just fantastic for dog walks. The holiday cottage was spotless when we arrived. The owners even left tea bags, coffee & sugar with biscuits as well! We can't thank them enough for an amazing week in the Dales! Places to visit are - Ingleton Waterfalls, Skipton Castle, Hawes Village & Kirkby Lonsdale. Just driving around the Dales was outstanding! We got our weekly food delivered on the day we arrived but there is a CoOp in Bentham which is a 15 minute drive away. I loved the local petrol garage as they asked me how much I put in my car!! Brings back memories as a kid! Thank Usherwoods as we will be returning ASAP! xxxxx"
"We stayed here for a long weekend with extended family! Very good value for money. The kitchen was well equipped - especially then there are 11 of you and a baby. The owners were very accommodating and done everything they could to help us. It snowed very heavily the night before we were leaving. So in the morning, they gritted the driveway for us to help us out - exceptional service really. There are amazing views from all angles of the cottage. We will definitely be back :-)."
"The house - The kitchen was well equipped and easy to work in. The bedrooms are clean and comfortable with black out blinds in the sky lights. The living room was very cosy and the log burner very welcome after getting caught in the rain during our Ingleton trip! The house itself is like a show home, finished to a high standard and an absolute pleasure to call it home for a few days. The views are something else!! Look out of any window upstairs, downstairs, kitchen, or bedroom, they all are fantastic! Value for Money - 100% The surroundings - So much to see, so much to do! Some hidden gems so do your research and plan before you go. The Ingleton Waterfalls Trail is a great way to spend an afternoon. The amount of rain that had fallen made it a spectacular sight. The Hosts - Very welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed. Very knowledgeable about the surrounding area and had a real passion for it which was nice to see. We will be back again in the summer!!"
"The house was perfect for a weeks holiday with friends. With panoramic views and a large garden for 5 teenage boys and 2 dogs. The house is very well equipped, clean and a fantastic big dining kitchen. We couldn't fault it and will hopefully be back."
"This is beautiful property in a beautiful location. Throughly enjoyed by all age 2 to 70. Owners were welcoming and very easy to talk to. Lovely & quiet with all amenities. Safe outdoor area for children to play and enough internet signal to keep them entertained in the evening (cbeebies.com!). Close to lots of fun attractions, the caves, Lancaster, farm parks and just rambling around the local villiages. The local Mart was well worth a look on market day. We would stay here again in the future."
"Spacious, well laid out property was well stocked with everything we needed, including thoughtful touch of freshly laid eggs in the fridge waiting for us. Big kitchen/dining area was highlight for me, great for cooking and sitting down for big family meals. The weather was unfortunately pretty wet for the week we were there so didn't do as many walks as we would have liked but still got to explore some of the surrounding countryside, which was beautiful. There were plenty of leaflets in the cottage with suggestions for activities and destinations nearby for kids and grown ups. All in all, would happily recommend!"
"This wonderful house immersed in an area of outstanding natural beauty can recharge your batteries. You can feast your eyes from the marvellous views just looking out of the windows. the house has all you need to feel comfortable in and not feel that you miss something from home."
"We have just returned from an amazing week at Usherwoods. There were 11 people in our group of 3 families. The house was spacious both inside & out and at no point did anybody feel on top of each other. The location was perfect for our group with all necessary amenities only a short drive away. It's in a great location for day trips out to the lakes & Ingleton etc but not too far from Lancaster for big shops & cinemas etc. The owners were so friendly and available for any requirements we had. They even left us some basic supplies of tea & coffee etc for our arrival. We all had such a good time that we have booked another 2 holidays for 2014. I'm counting down the days already."
"Usherwoods Dairy was an ideal venue for ten members of our three-generation family, plus one dog and a tortoise. The owner was extremely pleasant but not at all intrusive. Everything we needed was provided and the whole place was spotlessly clean. So relaxing to watch the cows, sheep and hens in the fields next to the garden. Lovely views all around, and a very interesting area to explore. Highly recommended."
"What a fabulous place, every need catered for, beautifully furnished & decorated. Set in a wonderful area, private but near enough to ask for assistance & near enough to local ameanities."
"The service as usual met all critera for a trouble free holiday. The directions shown to the 'Dairy' accurate and easy to follow. The accomodation was of a high specification with attention to detail and would suit a large party/gathering with plenty of parking. Plenty of space both internally and externally, large kitchen/dinning, lounge, utility room, adequate shower rooms/bathroom/toilet facilities. Good size entrance hall to cater for all outdoor clothing and shoes/boots of walkers before entering the main part of the cottage. The cottage was very warm and friendly controllable. Location is excellent for The Dales and surrounding countryside to include The Lakes. Many places of interest, to include picture post card towns, caves, waterfalls, beautiful country walks, of which there are many provided in the up to date guides at the cottage. A car is a requirement due to the remote situation but also close enough to a village for day to day shopping requirements. A few excellent places to eat out locally. A truly rural environment can be enjoyed by staying at 'Dairy'."
"Beautifully designed house, very well appointed and everything worked - all showers, cooker, washing machine, dishwasher etc.Lovely range. Comfortable lounge with lots of room. Comfortable beds and plenty of space. Beautiful area with good walking. Very welcoming with local information available. Stunning views from the house. Best - we thought the property was great and the area lovely.Just what we, as a large family, were looking for."
"We rented the cottage for a week. The cottage was outstanding. Very clean, warm and comfortable. We were made to feel very welcome and would definitely stay there again."
"Our annual gathering took place here this year, from all parts of the UK and Ireland. with ages from 2 to 60 the house accomodated all of us with ease. Well appointed and roomy, some noise, but what can you expect from three teenagers. Well positioned to visit the many attractions in the area, but a quiet haven if you just want to chill. Best supermarket a bit of a ride, but what are lists for. The owners were next door if required, but we never saw them or needed them. One of the best places we have found in 20 years of annual gatherings and ifit wasn't for the factthat we never visit the same place twice I would have no hesitation in booking the house again. You won't be disappointed if you go there for your holiday."
"This was a real find. A large comfortable converted dairy. Very clean and well appointed- nothing was overlooked ( except the en-suite did not have a shaving mirror ) The views were spectacular- The walks wonderful for dogs and humans alike. Our grand children were facinated by the wallabies and the joeys. A wonderful restful place."
"Warm, well equipped properties with friendly, helpful owners in a stunning location. We rented both the Dairy and Barn as we were a large group. The situation and views from the properties were fantastic and we saw some lovely sunsets. We particularly enjoyed the good walking right from the door and found the local countryside very unspoilt. We pre ordered a Tesco internet shop which was delivered right on time by a friendly delivery driver. All in all a wonderful experience and can't wait to go back again."
"This property is in the most beautiful location. You are literally surrounded by jaw-dropping scenery. There are views of the Lake District, the Howgills, the Three Peaks of the Yorkshire Dales and the Forest of Bowland. There were endless options for places to explore in the surrounding area, within an hour being in either the Lake District or the Dales and the local area was also a real revelation. That is of course, if you want to leave the house! Extremely easy check-in - the key was in the door! We had a wave from the owners as we passed them on the drive and they popped by later when we had had time to unpack and settle in. The owners are very helpful and we felt they would do anything to be of assistance - they even said give us a call anytime if you need any recommendations and were accomodating even when we popped around asking for firewood on a cold, wet evening - within 5 minutes the basket of wood was delivered to our porch. Half an hour after our arrival, Tesco arrived with our shopping - all we had to do was put it away. The house is beautifully clean - not a speck of dust and was unbelievably warm with the underfloor heating throughout the doorstairs and cosy open fire. The bedrooms were well appointed, we had tonnes of room and we enjoyed having a bathroom each (there are 3 in total). The kitchen was very well equipped and we loved cooking on the stove. The grounds were lovely and Blanche our bulldog was extremely happy to meet the local animals, the sheep, ducks, wallabies and her fave, the friendly cows, who seemed to worship her! Highly recommended and will hopefully return if travelling with a larger group."
"the cottage was warm and cosy. It was well equiped and decorated. The cottage had fantastic views and the owners were very friendly and helpful.Lots of places locally to visit but also lovely just to relax and enjoy the peace. highly reccommended"
"An excellent large property, clean and beautifully kept, loads of room for 10 of us and not being on top of each other! Wonderful views all round from every window. Lots of lovely walks. Very kind and helpful owners. We required a third key and they went out specially and had one cut for us. A perfect Christmas holiday was had by us all, ages ranging from 2 to 70 years."
"We go away as a large group of girls every january and had a wonderful time last year here. The decor of the house was very impressive and comfortable and we had loads of room to enjoy our stay. We wokr to lovely viewd and never had to worry about annoying the neighbours due to the location of the property. We did have a few problems at first finding this property in the dark but thankfully our tesco delivery van found us and helped us find the propoerty and an added bonus that while we in the middle of the country we could still have all our food delivered. It was little isolated in the moors though this was a plus for us as the scenery was beautiful and there was lots of walking if you felt so inclined! All in all a wonderfu; property to get away from it all, perfect for large groups of friends and families!"
"We had a group of 9 people, so finding a nice place with plenty of room was our main objective. The cottage was spacious and comfortable, with great common areas for gathering and quiet places to retreat from the crowd. Beautiful showers, excellent kitchen facilities, and a nice patio. The sunsets were exquisite from the back garden windows and the patio. Our group hiked, biked and rode horses all within the immediate vicinity of the cottage. Pubs and shops were a brisk walk away in High Bentham, and the sights of the Dales were a short drive away. All in all a great experience!"
"This was a fantastic base for two families to stay in. From the moment we walked in we felt welcome. Everywhere was spotless and bright and there were nice touches such as a pint of milk, tea coffee and biscuits waiting in the kitchen. Both families had privacy and plenty of room. The 'communal' areas ie, the kitchen and the lounge were spacious and well equipped. The location was great with easy access to lots of interesting places for days out eg. Malham Cove. The kids loved the garden and enjoyed having the cows peering over from the nearby field. We liked everything about this cottage. All in all excellent."
