Sedbergh - pronounced Sed-Ber – is an ancient market town situated in northern Dentdale within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The town itself boasts narrow streets, little shops, traditional pubs and a famous school, dating back to 1536. There is also an atmospheric 12th Century church. Dentdale is located amongst rolling hills and stretches 14 miles from the windswept moors below Whernside to the rivers Dee and Rawthey. At the heart of the dale is the town of Dent, which has existed since Norman times and is a labyrinth of winding cobbled streets. There are three golf courses in the vicinity as well as tennis, horse riding and fishing. With such incredible scenery and so many fascinating trails, the area is a great place for walkers and cyclists. This, together with the surrounding valleys and two National Parks, makes Sedburgh a fantastic spot for a holiday outdoors.
Reviews
"The owners of The Riddings go over and beyond making their guests feel so welcome. Unfortunately we didn't have very good weather but the barn conversion was so warm and cosy that it wasn't a hardship to stay in when the rain really came down. My husband and son were the designated drivers for Kendal and other neighbouring places and I have to say they managed really well as the roads are really hairy single track lanes and if you meet someone coming the other way your reversing techniques are severely tested. We loved our spacious ,warm and well-equipped barn and would highly recommend it but don't attempt to use the extremely narrow bridge or you might need the services of a car repair shop."
"Stayed here late April 2018 with a party of 7 girlfriends. We'd originally booked for March but the poor weather (snow) made travelling impossible and the owner, Dawn, couldn't have been more helpful in re-arranging the dates at very short notice. We couldn't have been happier with our choice, the accommodation, surroundings and scenery were all spectacular. I wouldn't hesitate to return. I've already passed on the details to a number of people who saw the photos that had been posted on social media of our girly weekend away."
"Beautiful, well appointed, well equipped barn conversion. Very spacious. Spotlessly clean. Remote location but not too far from M6. The drive to the barn is not for the faint hearted! (Very narrow roads!). Great area for walking. Easy access to Lake District and Yorkshire Dales. Would definitely recommend."
"What a fabulous place. Stayed here for the weekend for my mums 60th . The barn was finished to a very high standard and in a perfect peaceful location . Some lovely walking to be done from the barn over howgill hills. Would highly recommend ."
"Just returned from a lovely weekend break at Riddings Barn. Excellent retreat. Superb location. Quality property."
"Great place for large groups, very modern but cosy, maintained to a high standard. Views are amazing, great place to rest and relax but close to Sedbergh and Kendal if you wanted to look around and shop. Beds are super comfy."
"Excellent place to stay. All rooms to a very high standard and has everything you could possibly need. Very warm and cosy despite the awful weather and close enough to town for the essentials"
"7 June 2013. Spent a wonderful week at Riddings in accommodation which could not be bettered. We have stayed at many self catering establishments in our time, but Riddings is clearly the best for quality of conversion; the furniture and all fittings, kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms, are all top of the range. The owners provided many, many extras in sundries which you would expect to supply yourself. The location is perfect for peace, views and as much walking as one could ask for -right from the front door, without the need to drive! A hidden gem which we thoroughly recommend. Madelaine and Terry"
