Set beneath the imposing Clwydian Hill Range is the small village of Bodfari, a town steeped in history. Evidence of settlement on the site in the form of a Celtic camp can be found dating back to 500BC. Later roles include that of a Roman encampment whilst the village church, St. Stephen's, pre-dates the Norman Conquest. Nowadays, the village is home to a local shop and lies within easy reach of a number of traditional country pubs and restaurants. Nearby, the Offa's Dyke pathway provides excellent walking, whilst for those interested in discovering more of the area's history the ancient market town of Denbigh has a 13th Century castle. The charming little town also provides a host of modern amenities such as shops, pubs and restaurants and is only five miles from Bodfari.
Reviews
"I booked Cae Caled for 2 nights on October as we were going to a wedding at a venue close by. We arrived on a very dark and rainy Friday night but were given a warm welcome by the owners who came out in the rain to greet us. The cottage was lit and the heating was on making it nice and cosy for our arrival. A bottle of red wine left on the table for us was a nice touch. The cottage was beautifully finished with solid wood floors, a full kitchen with washing machine and dishwasher, a beautiful wooden spiral staircase and rustic wooden bed frame and a log-burner which had been prepared for us ready to light complete with extra logs and kindling. The cottage was perfect for the two of us and the en-suite bathroom had a gorgeous free standing bath and separate shower. The bed was super comfy and huge so we had a great couple of nights sleep. We couldn't appreciate the setting until daylight the next day but the views from the cottage are of the gorgeous Welsh countryside and I would have loved to have had time to explore- that'll have to wait until next time! Tahnks for a lovely stay- we will be back soon I am sure!"
"Absolutely gutted our week here went so fast. Just absolutely stunning. The cottage and the location and views. So many walks to do and not enough time. Everything you could want for a nice relaxing refresh. Highly recommend taking a hot soak after a day of walking! The owners were great for help and recommendations. We're definitely coming back.. sold Wales to us!!"
"We have a totally wonderful stay , such a bonus to find a lovely dog friendly cottage, the views are picturesque the cottage has a amazing bathroom, if you like a relaxing soak in the evening and a powerful shower for the mornings. The bedroom is large and airy with a massive bed. The owners could not have been any more helpful, and brought us temporary deck chairs as the new outdoor furniture was being delivered the next day. The outdoor swimming pool was a great bonus as the weather was extremely hot. We found plenty to do in the area, lovely towns nearby and some great nature walks. loggerheads country park is only 15mins away, this has long or short walks with a great licensed cafe and gift shop. There is also a fantastic pub close by which serves amazing food and has great views plus is also dog friendly . We are looking forward to our next visit."
"Had a lovely week at Cae Caled Cottage. This was a tastefully renovated cottage with ample space and very comfortable. It was a great place to stay, private and we were made welcome including the dog. Would certainly return as very good value for money"
"A faultless cottage. Clean and well equipped, warm and inviting. Perfect for a week away from it all. Plenty big enough for the 2 of us and our 2 border collies. Lovely garden area for the dogs to run around freely. This area of North Wales is stunning. The views from the patio doors both in the living area and the bedroom are awesome. You are never far from the remote hills, quaint villages, or bustling towns. The cottage is ideally located whatever your pastime may be. The owners were delightful and helpful and have a clear pride in their beautiful property which is immaculate. I have no hesitation in recommending this cottage to anyone. We will definitely return...hopefully soon. Richard & Sue"
"The cottage is beautiful and well equipped and the location is little short of perfection. The owners are on site and friendly and helpful. If you need to get away and have a complete break then this is the place to go. Take plenty of books and good food and wine, walk the spectacular scenery in the day, light the log burner and cosy up at night. It was a wonderful experience and I shall return."
"A very cosy, warm cottage & a Warm Welcome from Hugh to match ! Set in beautiful, tranquil surroundings Cae Caled is the perfect escape from the hustle & bustle of city life, yet Denbigh is only a short drive away. We took our dog along, he loved roaming safe & free in the fields & gardens surrounding the cottage, Hugh was more than happy for him to do this. We didn't get chance to take a dip in the pool, hardly the weather in October, but we could see the pool would be very tempting during the summer. The open plan design of the cottage was lovely and if the weather had been kinder to us we'd have loved to throw open the large patio doors and sit looking across the fields over breakfast or a glass of wine in the evening. As it was October we chose to snuggle by the log burning fire, we lit some candles and created a home from home - perfect ! As for the bedroom - what a huge comfortable bed, we struggled to leave its snugness especially on one winters morning while we listened to wind & rain beat down around us - the bath is also large & deep and perfect for soaking your aching muscles after a long day walking. The cottage was very clean, homely, warm and perfect to return to after a long day exploring North Wales and everything Wales has to offer. We would definitely return and highly recommend to others ! Thank You Hugh & Linda for providing a much needed relaxing time & Thank You for the drinks you bought us at the Kimnel Arms - a very nice touch and Zac loved the fact they were all so very dog friendly - We found the food & hospitality there was perfect too !!"
"The cottage was very well equiped for holiday let, and comfortable too. The furniture was in good condition and of good quality, and the bed was really comfortable. The views were fantastic. The owners were helpful and friendly. The dog loved exploring the grounds and the pond!!"
"The cottage is beautifully situated and very well equipped. There are wonderful views from all windows and a great sun-trap outside where you can bask in the sunshine. The owners live in the adjoining farmhouse and were very friendly and attentive. We enjoyed trips to Snowdonia - check out the Welsh Slate Museum at Llanberis (free entry) and Llangollen has plenty of attractions."
"This is a beautiful cottage attached to the main house and has lovely views of fields and hills from the french windows and bedroom balcony. It's at the end of a long narrow country lane (lots of potholes, so drive very slowly and carefully!) and is so peaceful. The cottage has been tastefully renovated, with a hand crafted wooden spiral staircase and 6ft bed. The owners are very friendly and helpful and we would thoroughly recommend this place if you want a quiet and/or romantic getaway. (Although the guinea-fowl was a bit noisy in the morning sometimes!) Plenty of places to visit nearby, castles, walks etc."
"The cottage is the most perfect place for a romantic get away. The wildlife are very entertaining, chickens, guinea fowl and swans sharing the garden. Even though it wasnt that warm, we were still able to enjoy a swim in the pool. The hosts are about but dont bother you. The bathromm is fantastic massive double bed. Its just a very magical place. Loved it, cant wait to return"
"A fantastic house in a fantastic area. We feel like home. The quiet feels so good."
