Situated in Wharfedale, the village of Burnsall is set on a bend in the River Wharfe and is framed by the dramatic backdrop of Burnsall Fell. The 12th Century church is considered to be the oldest construction in the village whilst the school is thought to be one of the oldest in Britain. The traditional Dales bridge with its five stone arches is another interesting feature of the settlement and is one of the town's most renowned landmarks. The surrounding countryside features a number of walks through the area, making it a wonderful place to stay whilst exploring the Dales. Local amenities include a small shop selling sweets and ice-cream as well as various essential goods, a pub with hotel, and a tea-room. Nearby Grassington and Skipton offer a wider range of amenities and Burnsall's river 'beach' is just a few minutes walk away.
Reviews
"This is a lovely cottage just a few steps away from the river Wharf and even fewer steps to the excellent Red Lion Pub. Just a couple words of warning: the bedrooms are upstairs and the beds are a little small (doubles not queens). Still it is a cozy cottage with a fairly well stocked kitchen for cooking and dining. Good for four people but more would be too crowded. Very nice and accommodating owners. Wonderful hiking. Indeed, we walked back from Bolton Abbey."
"Excellent service. The owner called to see if we required any help. The house was very well furnished and comfortable. Burnsall is a charming village with a very good inn - The Red Lion! However, we hit a rainy period which interfered with our walking plans."
"Very well appointed, warm, extemely cosy in a super location for some scenic walks.A lovely part of the world will will return."
"Felt at home from the start. The cottage itsself had everything with real traditional warmth and atmosphere. It is an easy stroll to the pub, the teashop (and they're both fantastic) and one of the Dales outstanding landmarks. There are superb walks either along the river or up into the hills. Just the perfect retreat."
"Comfortable furnished. All gadgets you could need. Log burning stove with generous starter pack. The underfloor heating was wonderful. Pub with good food about 100 yards away with shop even nearer. Butcher round corner. Plenty of excellent walking. Will definitely go again."
"We had a lovely holiday. The cottage was well equipped, cosy and comfortable and had plenty of room for a family of 4. There were some nice extra touches like DVDs, books, a huge box of Lego and some basic provisions in the cupboards which always makes life easier when you arrive. The location is fantastic, right in the middle of Burnsall within a stone's throw of the Red Lion pub, the tea room and village shop. Our only small gripe was the parking situation as it wasn't the easiest thing to load and unload two children from the car to the house and maybe that should be made clearer in the house details, but that is the only thing that wasn't lovely. We would definitely consider going back."
