Stamford Bridge was a fording point over the River Derwent for a Roman settlement, but nowadays is a town with a selection of shops and restaurants. The village is the site of the Battle of Stamford Bridge on 25 September 1066, which marked the end of the Viking era in Britain.
Reviews
"What a superb place, this is our 4th booking through Sykes and we get better with our picks, this place offers a marvellous spacious area, we brought our 10 month old and he's enjoyed the space and the soft flooring, and we've had plenty to do in the surrounding area, myself and my partner having got the little one to bed have enjoyed the superb hot tub, and peace at night, very comfy bed lots of great facilities and little touches all around, highly recommend this place ... superb !!"
"We booked Ash Tree Lodge in August 2014 to stay for the New Year 2015/16. Arriving days after the bad floods we were concerned that all would be ok, I rang the owner who was very pleasant & re-assured us all was ok. We arrived the 29th December for a 5 night stay with friends & we knew upon arrival we had made a perfect choice/location for our new year break. The log cabin was spacious & spotlessly clean with the lovely added touch of a beautifully decorated christmas tree making it so nice & festive. The icing on the cake was the very nice welcome basket of goodies & little extras like milk, coffee, tea etc. The log cabin was a great size for a group of 6 people, the living areas very spacious with lots of room & plenty of seating. The one small issue we had was the couple who were sleeping in the lounge said the sofa bed was too hard to sleep on & with it being leather was slippery. They ended up sleeping separate on the two normal sofas which were more comfortable This however was the only issue we had & will not put us off returning. Cooking facilities in the lodge were excellent we cooked a full roast dinner with all the trimmings on New Years Day & we had no issues at all. If your looking for takeaway I can highly recommend the chinese in Stamford Bridge, food was excellent all fresh & tasted delicious. We also went to a pub in the village called the Three Cups, again a lovely homely pub with excellent food. All in all our New Year stay at Ash Tree Lodge was excellent & we will certainly be returning in the future. One little thing that would help if travelling in 2 groups would be 2 sets of lodge keys & barrier keys as we found it very hard going out separate trying to arrange to get back at the same time this did prove a little inconvenient at times during our stay."
"We spent a week at this lodge. It was large and beautifully furnished/decorated. There was a lovely welcome basket of supplies and thoughtful little extras like bath soak and tissues were supplied. The lodge has large rooms with plenty of space and big cupboards for storage in the bedrooms - we used ours as a 'drying room' for towels. There are plenty of comfy sofas in the living room, a large TV with DVD player and a small selection of DVDs and books for all the family. The kitchen was very well equipped with plenty of cupboard space and the basics like tea, coffee, sugar and salt supplied. The star was without doubt the outdoor hot tub which was clean and well maintained and extra towels were supplied. My only negative comment would be that the lodge is very close to the busy A166 and traffic noise in the morning and evening ruined the otherwise peaceful farm setting. My mobile signal was also very poor in and around the lodge (Vodafone). This is a great place from which to explore the surrounding but you will have to drive into Stamford Bridge(couple of miles away) if you need shopping, bank(cash machine in COOP), takeaway food or a pub. I would recommend this accommodation if you want a peaceful location with few people around you."
"We stayed here for our anniversary wich was a surprise for my wife, Richard and Denise ( the owners ) welcomed us with flowers champagne and a cake, the cabbin was out of this world and deffanitly deserves 5 * rating, the location is lovely , the hot tub is brilliant and the owners can't do enough for you, we will deffanitly be returning in the future and would deffanitly recommend it to any one."
