The bustling fishing port of Eyemouth is set just over the Scottish border, eight miles north of the historic walled town of Berwick-upon-Tweed. Eyemouth still has a fish market supplied from local fishing boats, narrow cobbled streets preserve the ancient character of this delightful coastal town, and there are a number of visitor attractions outlining the history of the area, including its smuggling past. A cliff-top golf course in the town and a number of other courses in the area mean the town is an ideal golfing retreat. When your game is over, why not enjoy the walking, cycling, bird watching, castles or country houses all within a short driving distance. Both Edinburgh and Newcastle upon Tyne are reached in an hour, making Eyemouth a wonderful base for touring South Scotland, and the North of England.
Reviews
"Me and three sisters booked cottage for a 4 night stay. We know eyemouth very well having spent most of our childhood there. Perfectly situated and lovely large house. Arrived at house to find no changeover clean. Had difficulty contacting owner as lived abroard and all communication was through Sykes. No welcome pack so no local point of contact which was hugely frustrating. Our trip was planned to every minute from arrival and it cast a shadow over the whole break as were in contact with Sykes everyday and they never ever rang back. Were given excuse on excuse. We vacated for 2 hours whilst it was cleaned. Cleaned in a fashion, we emptied and cleaned fridge and freezer ourselves so we could get our food out of a hot car. we did get a very very small refund but we still felt cheated. We left the house much cleaner than we'd found it. Shame as we loved the house and would have returned year on year. Sykes knew all about our issues but because we booked through booking.com, booking.com didnt want to know once we got back as we apparently should have contacted them whilst away! We've just booked our trip this year to eyemouth and not staying at roselea.pics are under the beds after the 'clean' after we arrived. Previous visitors may recognise some of their child's artwork. No excuse for this at all"
"House is brilliantly situated one street back from the highstreet and 5 mins walk from the beach. Bedrooms are immaculate, although beds could be a little more comfortable (my back suffered a bit!) HOWEVER, the living room and kitchen need a good deep clean. Not sure if it was because we stayed at the end of the summer season, but the rug in the lounge is badly stained and the sofa was covered in dog hair from previous occupants. In the kitchen the fridge hadnt been cleaned; neither had the kitchen unit fronts, around the oven or dining room chairs (food dripped down them). A welcome folder would also have been useful - no instructions on how to use the central heating and we didnt figure it out until halfway through the week, also it wasnt clear what the wifi password is and the owner didnt respond to a text message asking. This really could be a beautiful holiday cottage, however until its cleanliness is improved and information for visitors is implemented we wont be staying here again. Eyemouth definately again, but certainly not this house."
"Very comfortable and well-furnished house, with plenty of glasses and adequate for six people. Everything you need for a base to explore the local area and the owner response well to communications. Eyemouth is a very nice place to visit with a working harbour and pictures countryside. Edinburgh is less than an hour away and is a good day trip. Everything within Eyemouth is in easy walking distance such a restaurants and shops. The local seagulls are the size of flying chickens :). Very good food from the local pubs. Berwick is also only ten minutes away, which is also a good day trip. Overall a very well-located house, as there are shops and restaurants nearby, with two amazing destinations for day trips nearby."
"We stayed here for 1 week so we could tour the border region during the day time, eat out at night and have a comfortable place to relax and sleep. There was ample space outside for parking. The kitchen was well appointed, but underused in our case and there was a courtyard at the back with outdoor table/seating. All the rooms were clean and well equipped. Two of the bedrooms were on the third floor, so the kids were "encouraged" to have these. Eyemouth itself has plenty to see and do and lots of choices for eating out."
