This 19th Century, stone-built barn conversion adjoins the owner's home on a 10-acre smallholding between Picklescott and Pulverbatch. At just six miles from Church Stretton, this romantic retreat is situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and has been tastefully renovated to combine modern conveniences with original features. The property includes a large galleried bedroom with exposed oak beams and trusses, a warming wood-burning stove and a secluded, patio garden with views across the countryside. The property is close to all the local amenities of Church Stretton as well as being within easy reach of many activities. A E Houseman once wrote that Shropshire was "the quietest place under the sun" and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.

"What a little gem. Beautiful location, nestled deep in the countryside, fabulous walks, stunning views. This cottage is well laid out, well equipped and we were greeted by a roaring log fire. Thankyou Nicky and Dave for our fabulous stay, your resident ducks kept us entertained, they were beautiful. Hope to see you all again soon"
"A delightful cottage in a quiet spot. Great for getting away from it all. Well equipt with all you need. The log burner was great on cold January evenings. Comfortable bed. A nice base to visit some of the area's beauty spots. Church Stretton and the Long Mynd are great places to visit, The Bucks Head in Church Stretton is a nice place for a meal and a pint or two of real ale. We had a nice stay and were pleased with all aspects of our accommodation."
"A beautiful place to stay, well presented, exceptionally clean and in a gorgeous countryside location if you want to get away from hustle and bustle. The old workshop is well equipped and the log burner was wonderful. Lond Mynd and Stipperstones nearby for some excellent walking. Would definitely like to revisit. Thank you"
"So I read some reviews prior to booking and yes the cottage is down some single track roads but wasn't really a big deal. The cottage is beautiful. A great combination of old stone character with more modern fixtures and fittings. Very well kept, peaceful and the wood burner was a real treat for a couple of lazy and cooler evenings and the owners kept us well stocked. Nearby we managed to squeeze a few things in in 4 days, namely Shrewsbury town centre, the local pub for a lovely lunch (The Bottle & Glass) around 1.5 miles away (a nice fresh walk), Church Stretton (Long Mynd walk) and the Ragleth Inn (Little Stretton)for another nice lunch. I would highly recommend this cottage."
"Fantastic cottage very modern but old at the same time, ideal location for a romantic getaway, ideal to lie in bed and look at the stars, fantastic walking with the dog and good pub about 1mile walk away to work up a thirst. Would like to go again soon"
"This was a last minute booking for us - we did not know the area at all. We were assured that it was a lovely location for walking and just relaxing. Completely accurate! In fact probably better than anticipated. The conversion of this old workshop has been done beautifully - real quality carpentry. The bedroom with huge exposed beams is something to behold! It is a very rural location which is great for the peace and quiet - but the lanes are very narrow and the first approach was a bit daunting but the directions were accurate - we just needed to trust them!! It was a pity that one of the local pubs had closed recently but another had reopened and the young couple running it deserve to do well. If you love the peace and quiet of the country this is for you!"
"Perfectly equipped and proportioned holiday let for two people. Tucked away in the middle of the Shropshire countryside it feels remote and isolated, but is only a short drive from a couple of villages with a choice of decent pubs nearby. Well placed for access to the Long Mynd, Stiperstones, and Wenlock Edge, it makes a good base for a walking holiday. If you are looking for some quiet down-time then this is the place to stay, but be prepared to wash your car at the end of the week - the local lanes get very muddy from the farm traffic!"
"We absolutely loved our stay here.We could not believe how peaceful the surroundings were.Just a short drive to Shrewsbury with a very handy Sainsburys.About 20 mins to Ludlow which really is lovely. The cottage had everything you could possibly need and the view out the windows and from the patio was amazing. The log fire made it so cozy on winter nights.Would definately stay here again if we return to Shropshire."

"We absolutely loved staying here. One of the things we loved was how remote the cottage seemed yet it wasn't actually that far away from the towns of Shrewsbury and Ludlow. We also liked looking at the stars on a night which were so clear due to the lack of street lights. The road from the a49 is really winding and very narrow but if you take your time and are patient it is not an issue. The log burner makes the cottage very warm and cosy and the whole cottage is built beautifully especially the woodwork. If going to Ludlow try the Courtyard Restaurant which serves great food and also The Ludlow Food Centre on the a49.We hope to return someday to the beautiful area."

"For those people who like remote quiet places then this location fits the bill. A 2 mile slow drive down a relatively quiet, single lane/track with twists & turns, blind corners, agricultural machinery, cows etc but the location is well worth the drive. There is a quieter route across country to Church Stretton which I do recommend. This area is great for those that like walking; too many to chose from. Owners of the Old Workshop were helpful & friendly."

"If you really want to unwind away from the city, this is the place to go. Surrounded by pure nature, it is the perfect place to relax. There is a lot to do just a few miles away. On our stay, we actually never left the Shropshire borders. The only thing that was a bit too exciting was the drive to the house. Be aware of oncoming farm traffic on the 2.5 miles single track to the house. But if you are trained in reversing around bends, this is not really a problem, just charming. My driver disagrees ;-) He did not like it."

"This was the most wonderful cottage to stay for a holiday in the most beautiful of settings. Unfortunately my husband fell down the stairs during the night on our 3rd night which disrupted our plans somewhat as he sustained severe bruising to his back and shoulder. This has, however, not put us off from staying there again sometime in the future."
"Very nice cottage with a beautiful garden. Ideal for sitting out in during the evening after a long walk. Ideally placed for couples wanting a quiet holiday with access to plenty of walks. Cottage bedroom layout was exceptional. Just beware of the very narrow roads in the area, until you reach Church Stretton."

"We found the cottage to be very comfortable for two people. The accomodation is well laid out, clean and tidy, and having most of what you may require for your stay. It was nice having a log burning stove in the living room for chilly evenings, the logs being provided. The cottage is located in beautiful country side, but the lanes to access it are very narrow, and must be treated with great caution. Fortunately, traffic is light. There are many interesting places to visit nearby, both within Shropshire and over the border in Wales. If you and your loved one are considering visiting the Old Workshop, our response would be, GO FOR IT!"

"An excellent stay with everything provided without any intrusivness. A beuatifull and tastefull accomodation that is a pleasure to be in. Rural location, very quiet and a good location for exploring Shropshire. The high standard of the accomodation was a delight and the location was ideal for a very quiet holiday. The location is approached by winding, narrow lanes which are not for the faint-hearted!"

"My husband and I stayed here in June 09. We arrived somewhat bereft having put to sleep our wonderful old goldie, Heidi the day before. What a fabulous place. Fantastic views, fantastic barn conversion, just superb. The couple who owned the property were just lovely, left us fresh eggs from the hens and Nel the farm dog - restored our hearts and helped the healing commence. The surrounding area is just beautiful and we walked to the local pub (quite a hike) with Nel and what a great place. Overall cannot recommend this place highly enough. The overall surrounding area is just so beautiful. We will return, having now rescued another dog a few months later! "
"I absolutely loved my stay and would highly recommend it. It was so comfortable and homely and the owners were an absolute pleasure to deal with, being very friendly and easy to approach. The location was fantastic, being in the middle of no-where but the places to visit were only a short car ride away, and there were plenty of places to visit. The walking was wonderful. There is nothing that I didn't like, I loved everything about it. I was on my own and felt safe and happy to be, but I also think it would be a very romantic place to stay for a couple."
