Ground floor bathroom with bath, shower cubicle, basin & WC. Fitted kitchen with dining area. Living room with exposed beams & woodburner.

This is a delightful, detached, stone built converted chapel situated in the sleepy hamlet of Rudland, just two miles from Fadmoor. The sympathetic conversion has led to an enchanting mixture of period-pieces and modern living space. With a ground floor double bedroom with en-suite, a quirky mezzanine-level bedroom set above the spacious living room and a wood-burning stove, this is an incredibly cosy property with lots of character. The country-style kitchen boasts a stable-door, opening onto the sunny mature gardens with a pretty beck trickling down the centre. The garden is a wonderful place to relax with a good book, or a glass of something cold, and simply enjoy the sound of the stream. Nearby are a variety of local amenities, all within easy reach of the property. The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline making it a haven for walkers.

Dotted with old stone cottages and nestled amidst the beautiful countryside of the North York Moors National Park, the pretty village of Fadmoor is just two and a half miles from the attractive market town of Kirbymoorside. The village offers a country inn which serves food, whilst other amenities can be found in the nearby town - a charming place with a slightly ‘old fashioned' feel. Visitors to Kirkbymoorside will find plenty to keep them occupied in the many tea-rooms, pubs and restaurants there whilst for golf enthusiasts the town is also home to an 18-hole course. In addition there is excellent walking in the region with the magnificent scenery of the National Park and the many picturesque villages such as Hutton-le-Hole. The base of the North York Moors Steam Railway is situated in the local town of Pickering and slightly further afield, visitors can find museums, castles, trout fishing and local market towns.

"Now spent our 3rd time at the Old Chapel and again we have had a lovely time. Place on arrival was clean and tidy enough to be happy. Free towels is new this time not had that before. The surrounding area is lovely and very peaceful. If you would like to do some fishing head to "Buzzers Pond" just through Kirkbymoorside. Most of the surrounding villages are small but have things to see and do. Scarborough was a great day out and not too far to go. Much better than Whitby and Bridlington in our opinion. Lucky we had some lovely sunshine and it was lovely to be out in the garden which is ample big enough for children to play in and very safe. Altogether another great time and we look forward to returning."

"Amazing, characterful cottage. I really want to buy it and retire there. The pics on Sykes Cottages do not do it any justice but then neither will the ones I'm about to upload to TripAdvisor. We rented it to visit Daughter No 1, near her new home and it very easily accommodated all four generations of the extended family. The cottage is based on a Victorian, Primitive Methodist chapel with two architecturally sympathetic extensions. The chapel contains the lounge and mezzanine 3rd bedroom above. The other extension contains the two ground-floor bedrooms (one en-suite) and bathroom. The third extension contains a very grand kitchen and dining table for up to 10 people. There is a good size garden, half-lawn half woods, with a little brook. There are three patio/decking/picnic areas with picnic tables. There is off-road parking for up to three cars and roadside-verge parking for two more. The owner seems very experienced in holiday lets as every detail and gadget is catered for and documented helpfully with little notices about the place. A large selection of books, maps and leaflets on the locality are available. On hearing that we were bringing a toddler, the owner very generously installed a very sturdy, child-proof fire guard to surround the wood-burner. You can't ask for more considerate service than that. Standard broadband over wifi was installed in Oct 2016, 5.8Mbps download on average. Absolutely jack-squat mobile signal though, unless you walk 100 metres up the road to a cattle-grid. The housekeeper lives in Willow Cottage, just 50 metres up the road and she is very nice too. Unfortunately I needed the services of an ambulance on my first morning there and she plugged a landline in for us so we could easily call out a doctor again if needs be. It is superbly placed for walking groups to base themselves. It is right at the top of its dale, within 100m of the open moorland. You could simply start all your walks from the cottage. It is incredibly secluded! Location for walkers: 54.320760, -0.984311, OS Grid SE 661 921, Explorer OL26 North Yorkshire Moors. It's really hard to see even on an Explorer map as it is un-named and hidden by a complex convergence of map lines & colours. Just look for the teeny-tiny square at 7 o'clock from the "C" of "Willow Cottage". Despite it being so remote and exposed, it was cosy warm for our autumn visit and could easily handle the depths of winter I reckon. The central heating has just been upgraded and the building is heated by several, massive, retro "school" radiators. The wood-burner is quite capable of turning the very large lounge and mezzanine into a sauna by itself anyway. Handy tip - Tesco delivers there! Postcode YO62 7JJ."

"We stayed for the May Bank Holiday week, and wished we could have stayed longer. The Old Chapel looks deceptively small from the outside, but it opens up like Dr Who's tardis with a lovely spacious, high-ceilinged lounge with a mezzanine loft (which our son immediately laid claim to) and a big well-equipped kitchen with a lovely view onto the garden. Two other bedrooms were fine (one en suite), and there is a good-sized family bathroom. Everything was very clean (our one anxiety from some early reviews) and well maintained. The location is lovely, right up on the edge of the moors, no near neighbours or noise apart from the birdsong - curlew, cuckoo, snipe, woodcock, red grouse amongst others. It is a perfect base for walkers and there is so much to do in the area (eg Rievaulx Abbey), or for a day on the coast (eg Whitby or the Puffins at RSPB Bempton). A car is a must - several really nice pubs within 15 minutes drive, Helmsley is great for shops and Scott's Fish and Chips. Beadlam Grange farm shop has a lovely deli and does great breakfasts. The Old Chapel is a real home from home. We will be back."

"Absolutely lovely property is idyllic surroundings. Beautiful garden where you can see the odd rabbit and listed to the cuckoo. The cottage is well appointed and was spotlessly clean. The beds were extremely comfortable with quality bed linen. We really loved our stay here and were sorry to leave. It is a great base for travelling into local villages of Pickering or Helmsley, not to mention places further afield such as York or Whitby. The cottage has a charm to it and there are very nice neighbours not too far away who are on hand should you need anything. All in All we had a brilliant stay."

"This house is in the perfect location for a get away from it all holiday. It's peaceful and quiet, and just on the edge of the moors -single track roads lead up to this house. The house had everything that we needed and was well equipped. There was lots of space and it had loads of character. The owners had placed many information leaflets on what there was in the areas surrounding the house and there is indeed plenty to do to fill your holiday. All I would say is that it could do with a little attention paid to cleaning the nooks and crannies of the house. The kitchen units especially. Just be prepared to travel for up to an hour to visit places like York or Scarborough- the roads add time onto your journey but the countryside is beautiful so we didn't mind. Also, you will not get wifi whilst in the cottage which for us was perfect - great evenings spending quality time with our children with no technology in sight. :)"

"Would not bother with this cottage. It has very dirty and tired. Not cleaned properly. We had to clean all the kitchen equipment before we could use it! Have plenty of photos to back up our claim. Poor response from the owner and housekeeper calling us liars. Had to leave early as mice where eating our food in the fridge! Bedding was dirty. General condition of the cottage is very tired. Stay well away. Would not recommend to anyone which is a shame as this property has potential. Did get a partial refund after making a complaint."

"This is a beautiful peaceful location. The old chapel has been cleverly converted and is well appointed with vast array of maps, guides, games etc. There is an excellent pub in gillamoor, about two miles away, with great food and beer. Would have been helpful to be able to boost the central heating which is on a set time control and the hot water was a bit hit and miss. The garden is lovely. Overall, a great place to stay if you want the peace of the countryside."

"We stayed at The Old Chapel for a long weekend - bitterly cold weather but once we had the log burner going the cottage was very cosy and welcoming. We loved the remoteness and the total peace and quiet. The location was perfect, step outside the cottage and you are on the moors. The cottage is well equipped but we felt that a few things were growing rather tired. The settees have seen better days, and the kitchen needed cleaning a little more thoroughly. As it was a bitterly cold weekend it would have been nice to have had access to a supply of logs nearer to the cottage. The snow came down on the second night of our stay but fortunately we had bought additional logs in Kirkbymoorside. Had we not planned so well though we could have been stuck as the car was snowed in the next day. There were logs in the garden but they were padlocked. Perhaps for future cold spells it would be a good idea to allow access to more logs should they be needed at an appropriate charge. The snow made the stay extra special and the two mile walk in the snow to The Royal Oak in Gillamoor for a wonderful Sunday lunch was a walk and a lunch we will remember for a long time!"

"Fantastic cottage, the renovation had been thoughtfully and tastefully done. The chapel was very comfortable but kept its old charm as well. I would highly recomend it for a holiday."

"We took two of our grandchildren for a holiday they are 1 teen ager and 1 verging on teenager. Both like walking and seeing the sights . This was perfect for all. Pickering nearby for the Steam Train up to Whitby ( and all points in between. Eating out in the local hostelry was fab. The cottage was so well equipped and beautifully decorated it felt like home. loads of info on surrounding attractions. Nearby Helmsley was alovely Yorkshire. Quite the best standard of holiday accommodation we have ever had and we have stayed in quite a few over the years with the grandchildren The lady who looked after the property was really helpful andthere have been a lot of happy reviews in the visitors book.Sykes have it on all counts including competitive pricing Well done"
