Brassington is a tranquil, unspoiled conservation village on the outskirts of the Peak District National Park. Brassington has cottages dating back to the 17th and 18th Centuries and is a traditional limestone village. It has two public houses, both of which serve good food, and the bustling town of Matlock is just eight miles away for a wider range of shops and other amenities. Carsington Water is only two miles' distance and offers many outdoor pursuits such as sailing, boating, windsurfing and cycling. The park also has a restaurant, shops and an adventure playground for children. There are many towns and villages including Bakewell, Ashbourne and Matlock, waiting to be explored in this spectacular region and Brassington is a perfect holiday base from which to do this.

"We stayed here as a family of 4 (2 Adults + 9 & 7 year old). The cottage is ideally located for all of the attractions of the peak district. Dragon hill barn has been converted to a very high standard and your every need is catered for right down to the Nespresso machine which was a nice touch. There are 2 smart TV's to keep everyone entertained and the WiFi is fast enough to keep everyone's devices running (around 40mbps) as the mobile phone signal in the village is zero! We took advantage of the secluded patio (which is an afternoon sun trap) for a couple of BBQ's. The hosts were attentive and supplied the necessary essentials in the kitchen etc. I would happily reccomend dragon hill barn to anyone and would love to return again one day."

"Spotless and well fitted converted barn in the picturesque village of Brassington. Well thought out conversion providing all facilities and spacious enough for a family of 4. The village has 2 pubs offering food and lots of lovely walks nearby. Also close is Carsington Water which is good to walk or cycle. Not far from Buxton, Bakewell, Ashbourne and Matlock so lots to see and do. Loved our stay and would love to return."

"I highly recommend this 2 bed cottage in Derbyshire. It is so lovely and cosy and very fresh and spotlessly clean, all the extra little touches of toiletries, soft fluffy towels and lovely fresh cotton sheets were all very much appreciated. A really big thankyou to Rod and Liz. Brassington is a lovely little village central to all the local attractions."

"We picked Dragon Hill Barn for a spur of the moment getaway... wanted somewhere cosy, near a nice pub to just hole up and relax. We weren't disappointed. The cottage was perfect - beautifully decorated, amazingly well equipped, comfy, warm and I wish we had more time there. Rod and Liz have thought of everything - right down to toiletries and other creature comforts. The village was charming - the two pubs both do good food and ales. Personally we preferred the Miners Arms as our watering hole - friendly locals and landlord and some honest, tasty pub food. We failed dismally to get the wood burner going, but even with snow outside, the Barn was warm and snug. We'll definitely come back."

"This cottage is beautiful. Th furnishings and fittings are of a very high standard. It is cosy and comfortable and ideal for a family or group of friends. The owners are very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The cottage is perfectly situatied for exploring The Peak District. Sadly our stay was only for two nights between Christmas and New Year so the opportunities to explore the trails and natural beauty of the surroundings were limited. It is a perfect base with all the comforts of home and I have no hesitation in recommending the accommodation."

"A small but beautiful cottage, very comfortable with everything one would hope for. In an excellent location for getting around to see all the sights, within 30mins you could easily be in Ashbourne or Bakewell. Chatsworth & Haddon Hall are only a short drive away. It's great to have a pub just over the road that serves good honest food, It's so quiet considering its in the middle of the village."

"We have stayed at Dragon Hill Barn now on a number of occasions. Usually over New Year period with a couple of friends. The cottage is always clean & tidy, wifi & all you would expect. The storage heating can be a bit cool in the afternoon but is quickly backed up by the roaring log burner. The only problem is then, the bedrooms are roasting through the night. Brassington village is a lovely place to be at New Year. The 2 local pubs are warm & welcoming & have great food & ales. We love Dragon Hill Barn although it's an acquired taste. "

"The 2 bedroomed cottage (1 kingsize & 1 twin) is conveniently located to explore the Peak District. The cottage has lots of extra facilities (books; dvds; local walk leaflets; board games; free wifi - TIP take your laptop/tablet etc) The electric, towels and bed linen are included. There is no mobile 'phone reception but a land line 'phone is provided with free weekend & after 7pm on week day calls. There is no shop in Brassington so remember to shop when you are out & about or use the grocery vending machine in the Miners Arms car park. The Miners Arms pub is opposite and there were 2 other pubs in the local area. A great comfy cottage made extra cosy by the log burner."

"A lovely cosy barn, good peaceful location, great walks from the door, everything we needed was supplied and in excellent condition. Several nice pubs, two within a 2 minute walk. The welcome folder with local info was invaluable. Only down side was no bath and no garden, but the other features more than made up for it!"

"We have just returned from a very wet and foggy week in the area, but Dragon Hill Barn is the perfect place for sheltering from the elements! The log fire makes the already cosy cottage even more so and is super for warming up from a wet walk. The cottage has everything in it that you'd need for a stay - the towels are just wonderful! There is no phone signal in the cottage - heavenly! - but there is wifi if you need to connect. The 2 pubs in the village are lovely and welcoming. There is plenty to do in the area, even in bad weather! Would thoroughly recommend."

"Dragon Barn is situated in a lovely village and close to towns in a beautiful scenic area. The barn is tastefully presented and the owners have provided all the extras you might need. It is warm, comfortable and charming. We enjoyed being able to walk to the village pubs and eat out and to walk during the day and visit small towns . Ashbourne especially good for shopping. Dragon Barn is excellently placed for a relaxing break."

"Dragon Hill Barn is a well equipped and modern property, with parking immediately outside. It is warm and comfortable - the woodburning stove is very efficient and easy to use. Two pubs are close by, with the Gate Inn particularly recommended for its warm welcome, good beers and excellent food. The property is within a 30 minute drive of the major tourist attractions of the Peak District. Over the years we have stayed at many cottages, and invariably there is some fault somewhere. However, with Dragon Hill Barn there were none, and we will most certainly book again."

"The cottage was very well serviced, very neat, clean and comfortable. The owners provided items for kitchen/bathroom cleaning/washing up-even dishwasher tablets, condiments, and liquid soap.Plenty of logs for the fire (though we didn't need them this week!) and plenty of CDs, DVDs, books and games. Also a lot of local information and booklets provided. The only downside at the property was the double bed was a little big for the room, and you just had to be careful not to bang your knees on it. Also the bedrooms had window shutters, not curtains, but this wasn't too much of a problem. The village was very pretty and served by 2 good pubs-The Miners Arms is a good real ale pub, serves good pub fayre and is a good place to chat with the locals. Ye Olde Gate is a lovely 'olde worlde' type pub complete with real fires, and tankards hanging from its beams. The food here could compete with any high class restaurant and the chef even offered to cook whatever our vegetarian friend liked (which you don't find happens often). The cottage is not far from many pretty villages- Ashbourne is great on market day and has lovely individual shops and plenty of places to eat. Carsington Water is close by and is a lovely place to walk and has a lovely restaurant overlooking the reserve. There are also a few shops there. Dovedale is beautiful -great for short and easy or more strenuous walks. We also visited Kedlestone Hall and Calke Abbey- both interesting and about 3/4 hr away. At Calke you can even have a picnic at the side of the Deer reserve. It also has a lovely garden with organised tours-well worth it. We had a lovely week. The cottage made a lovely comfortable base from which to explore the surrounding area. Would happily recommend it."

"We had a lovely time at Dragon Hill cottage. it was clean and well equiped and the furnishings were of good quality. it was as was described in the brochure. ideally situated to abraham heights, carsington water and about half hour from alton towers. we also expliored Dove dale area. good walks around the barn. the only issue was that the TV picture was poor so you could only watch DVD's. we didn't try the local pubs due to the comments in the visitors book there. we would go back again. the owner was very friendly and helpful"

"Lovely barn conversion in nice village with2 pubs within walking distance. Both serve meals. Cottage well serviced. O. K. for 2 adults & 2 children. Not a lot of space for 4 adults. Lacking in a little more outdoor space for sitting out on nice days."

"Not easy to find from the directions if you are travelling from the South, fine from the north. Cottage renovated very nicely. Could do with somewhere to hang coats, put boots etc. Disappointed that there wasn't kindling for the fire. Over all a nice play to stay."

"The cottage has been sympathetically restored and provides every modern comfort. It was impeccably clean and although the area is quiet the village provides interesting walks. The local pubs give good value and produce good food. It is a short distance away from other attractions, say Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall which are a "must" to see. I cannot find fault and would stay there again."
