Overview
One of four semi-detached barn conversions, with a wealth of original features, this attractive holiday home is full of old-world charm and period character. One king-size double bedroom with original beams and wall timbers. Bathroom with corner bath, separate shower cubicle, basin and WC. Spacious open plan living area with fitted kitchen, dining area, and sitting area with log-effect electric fire, all with original oak beams.
Situated in a charming rural location, around an attractive courtyard with four cottages, this property is just two miles from the quaint village of Bucknell. The cosy, king-sized bedroom comes with original wooden beams and exposed brick-work, as does much of the rest of the property. With a welcoming, open-plan living area that incorporates a fitted kitchen and dining table, as well as a pretty front patio for relaxing on or dining outdoors, this property is a great spot for a second honeymoon or romantic break. And with so much to see and do in the local area, it'll be a tough choice whether to stay in and enjoy the house, or go out and explore the countryside. A E Houseman once wrote that Shropshire was "the quietest place under the sun" and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.

Nestled in the beautiful South Shropshire valley of the River Teme is the pretty village of Bucknell, complete with two village pubs – both of which serve food. Close to the borders of Wales and Herefordshire, quiet, peaceful village is set in a lovely area of beautiful, unspoiled countryside – ideal for ramblers and hill walkers. The historic market town of Ludlow is close by and is well renowned for the superb quality of its restaurants. Ironbridge provides a wealth of museums whilst the historic town of Shrewsbury is also within easy driving distance. Local towns of Craven Arms and Knighton offer a full range of amenities. Stopping in the village is the Heart of Wales Railway, taking visitors through beautiful, hillside scenery and to the south are the quaint, wood-beamed cottages and cider orchards of North Herefordshire.
Reviews
"We had a wonderful week in Bucknell, the cottage was perfect & surely stes the standard by which others should be judged! The one regret was that we were involved in a very busy music course at Bedstone so didn't have as much time to enjoy the cottage as we would have wished."
"A great property for a romantic stay in a beautiful location."
"The property was very well presented, very clean. The down side for us was that it was much farther away from things than we had realised and was on a very narrow country lane where if another vehicle was coming towards you then you had to reverse down the hill to the bottom of the lane as there were no passing places. We had to do a lot of driving to get to places to eat and visit but maybe this was just us not realising that it was so far out of the way. It certainly was quiet, no internet or mobile phone connection which was not a huge problem, there is a land line phone on site but we could not find the number of the restaurant we wanted to call in the yellow pages. The owners provide a huge amount of leaflets and information which is very useful. Shops for provisions are some distance away although if you do go into Knighton then go to Harry Tuffins supermarket - they have everything you could ever want - and I do mean everything. Their bacon is extremely good my husband tells me. The area is great for walking if the weather is kind to you and there are plenty of attractions to visit if you don't mind the drive."
"We had a great time at Stable End. The cottage is extremely well equipped and the location very peaceful with stunning scenery. There is plenty to do in the local area from exploring Shrewsbury to walking and visiting Stokesay Castle, Much Wenlock and the Ludlow Food Centre - its a great area. I would recommend this cottage to couples who enjoy a quiet relaxing holiday - and don't mind a slightly unusual lane when driving to the property!"
"Very good - the lane to and from the property is very interesting!"
"Stable End is located on a single track road with one passing place. That said we were lucky as we never met any oncoming traffic. Every convenience is provided and the cottage was spotlessly clean. Handy for Knighton, Clun and beautiful Shropshire hills"
"Stable End is probably the finest self catering accomodation we have had the pleasure to stay in in the UK."
"We have been staying in self catering cottages for over twenty years and this has to be the best of the lot. a charming and comfortable base for two with splendid bedroom and bathroom. Spotlessly clean and well prepared with everything you could need. Friendly, helpful owners on the spot who even sent on the reading glasses I had left behind. One slight quibble in that the approach lane is very much one way but this does help preserve the tranquility of the beautiful area.."
"Enjoy the great peace and quiet, great place to stay and enjoy the nice big bath and bed. It is a good place for a romatice week/end. Lots to see and do around Bucknell. but make sure you have all you need as few shops around to buy the odd loaf or pint milk."
"Quiet and remote. Ideal to get away from it all and a superb area for walking and appreciateing the wonderful countryside that surrounds this property. This is a barn conversion that has been undertaken to very high standards providing all modern comforts. The owners (who live across the courtyard are very friendly and helpful). All together this is excellent accommodation in a beautiful area - highly recommended."
"great place to stay, clean and tidy, finished to high standards. very friendly owners Only minor issue is the narrow country lanes, lovely pubs locally so would definitely recommend."
"We had a wonderful week here the accomodation is well equipped and cosy with all the conveniences you need .All the labour saving devices ,owners close at hand but inobtrusive unless required .It was near to many interesting locations all within easy driving distance also near to local shops and pubs. All in all the only minus was we were only there for a week ,a very relaxing holiday in a delightful rurul location."
