Overview
Full of period details including exposed oak beams, trusses and original doors, this is a welcoming home-from-home, able to sleep up to seven people in two doubles – one en suite - and a family room, comprised of one double and one single bed. Three bedrooms: 2 x double (one with en-suite shower, basin and WC), 1 x family room with 1 double and 1 single. Bathroom with bath, double shower, basin and WC. Ground floor basin and WC. Kitchen with dining area, beams and exposed stone walls. Utility. Sitting room with woodburner.
Three miles from Ludlow, across the courtyard from the owner's impressive country house, in the picturesque rural village of Caynham lies this wonderful detached nineteenth century barn conversion. Blending the building's period features with modern fixtures gives the property a sleek feel without losing any of its old world charm. The cosy living room opens onto the pretty garden, which offers a great opportunity for a summer barbecue, al fresco dining, or simply relaxing with a good book. No matter what time of year you've planned your visit, this property will make an ideal base from which to explore the region. A E Houseman once wrote that Shropshire was "the quietest place under the sun" and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.

In the heart of the beautiful Shropshire countryside, amidst the renowned walking and cycling region, is the historic village of Caynham. With evidence of early dwelling on the site, in the form of the outstanding landmark, Caynham Camp, visitors can see this huge Bronze Age/Iron Age earthwork which covers a site of eight acres at the summit, from which wonderful views can be enjoyed. Three miles away is Ludlow where slightly more recent building work can be seen in the intact medieval street patterns of the town. Renowned for several Michelin-starred restaurants, as well as numerous tea-shops, pubs and inns, Ludlow is a great destination for gourmets and food enthusiasts whilst nearby, visitors can enjoy such diverse activities as Ironbridge Gorge, Severn Valley Railway, Berrington Hall and Cardingmill Valley.
Reviews
"This barn is excellent, everything you need is on site, the owners are on site to give assistance if needed but not watching over us. Would certainly recommend and a lovely place to share for a family occasion."
"Just got back from a family weekend at the barn and I have to say the place was superb. There were 6 adults and 2 children in our party (4 year old and 7 month old boys) The views from the barn are stunning, open fields for miles around. There's a nice big area for children to play inside the barn gates but over the field is a swing, chickens and a trampoline. The people who own the property are very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. They made sure the BBQ was available for us and we were lucky with the weather so all went well. The living room is very spacious with 3 sofas and 2 single seater, the kitchen is huge with a massive dining room table. The bedrooms were nice and big and the main bathroom was nice and big with a bath and walk in shower. The tv is a bit old BUT we only put it on for dvds for the kids so this didn't effect our stay at all. There is a log fire which was nice on the first night. I couldn't fault this place and would definitely love to go back. I can imagine it's gorgeous at Christmas time. Location is ideal only 2 miles from Ludlow. All in all we had a brilliant time and I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Great for a family weekend or week holiday. "
"We had a lovely fortnight at the Glebe Barn with our two young children aged 2 and 5. It is beautiful, spacious, well-equipped and well-laid-out; great for playing hide-and seek! There is a lovely lawned garden with table and chairs, a large umbrella and clothes airer; and 'field' beyond that has a trampoline, swing, chicken coop and tons of space to run around. The owners and their parents were very friendly, lending us some garden toys, giving us fresh eggs and clean linen and towels during our stay. We really appreciated having the dishwasher, washer/drier and wonderful power showers! We cooked many meals in the huge kitchen - Ludlow is a real foodie place and we enjoyed buying some lovely local produce. There is a market nearly everyday, farmers market and well-priced butcher. The barn has a small selection of books, DVDs, jigsaw puzzles and a few games. We found the local info. pamphlets very useful. The recently installed wifi was great with a good, strong signal, mobile phone reception is good here too. The TV has freesat, but unfortunately didn't have the CBeebies channel :-(. There is no CD or MP3 player, but there was a DAB radio in the kitchen. The 3 sofas and 2 chairs in the living room were practical but not comfortable and the plastic material left us feeling rather sweaty. There were also many cobwebs throughout the barn. However, the Glebe Barn is well set up for families. Our youngest was comfortable in the large wooden cot. The highchair was a bit tired, but invaluable once we figured out how to strap him in! I should also mention that there is black-out lining on the curtains in the two double rooms, which we really appreciated, but not in the family room. There are some great local attractions that proved to be good places to visit with the children: Ludlow Castle, Croft Castle, Hampton Court Castle, Severn Valley Railway, The Waterworks Museum (Hereford), shropshire Hills Discovery Centre, swimming at Teme Leisure, local playgrounds in Ludlow and Tenbury Wells."
"Beautifully appointed barn conversion. Well equipped kitchen. Lovely airy rooms with nice comfortable beds. Great location for exploring Shropshire and North Wales. Friendly owners."
"We stayed here for a few days in autumn and loved every minute of it. The barn is wonderfully spacious, warm (too warm? That underfloor heating was so efficient! This was a bit upsetting as it meant we couldn't use the fire!) and nicely situated a short drive from Ludlow. We stayed during a half term so we paid a bit more than it's usually available for, but that's my own fault for marrying a teacher. A week's stay out of term time is very appealing. The owners were on hand for any questions we had but we tried our best to leave them alone. Lovely couple. Only slight drawback was that there wasn't a pub within walking distance but not a problem really as we were more than happy to stay tucked up in the house after dark. Highly recommended."
"I cannot rate this barn highly enough - it is large , comfortable and is as plush and luxurious as is reflected in the photos."
"All aspects of this cottage rate as excellent. Luxurious accommodation, peaceful location and wonderfully helpful owner/neighbours.Everything was carefully thought out and well furnished. The wood burning stove, underfloor heating, fabulous showers, fantastic kitchen and dining room, comfy beds ... Just wonderful !!"
"All round excellent stay. Spacious accommodation and very well equipped. Lovely countryside and yet also close to local towns with places of interest and NT properties etc. Very friendly owner. Would thoroughly recommend it."
"A year later and we are still re-living the holiday, and accommodation itself holds special memories for us. My 18 yr old daughter says it was the best holiday of her life. We travelled from australia to stay in Ludlow and it was magic. The barn is huge inside and gave more than enough space for 8 people which included grandparents. We loved the character features, the huge kitchen layout with every utensil you could wish for. the bathrooms were high spec and well done too. Its the kind of place you can hang around in the day time if you are too tired of sight seeing and just kick back. This was the highlight of our 6 months journey. And a big thank you to the owners for your kindness to us! We'll be back ...one day..."
