Perfectly positioned for touring both the Moors and the Coast, the picturesque village of Rosedale Abbey is situated in the heart of the North York Moors National Park. Located in Rosedale, a beautiful valley of sweeping hillsides and breathtaking views, this lovely little settlement is surrounded by wonderful moorland countryside and offers walks in every direction. The village is home to the remains of a 12th Century Cistercian Priory - a stone pillar, staircase and sundial are all that remain, which gave the town its unusual name. The village is now largely made up of stone-built cottages clustered around the village green. Packed with local amenities such as shops, tearooms, an art gallery, a glass studio and three old country pubs, there is plenty to do without venturing to nearby Hutton-le-Hole, Ryedale and Kirkbymoorside.
Reviews
"We stayed in the cottage for five nights It's a lovely place but very remote and hard to find. We really enjoyed our stay in this nice and comfortable cottage but found the lack of internet a bit annoying due to the difficulties to make plans for where to go and what to do the coming day."
"Just had the most peaceful relaxing break at this lovely cottage the location and scenery just blew us away..I was brought up in Yorkshire but I had no idea there were views like this..the dogs had a great time and my hub walked miles with them we loved the cottage and the cottage garden was a delight as were the neighbours"
"What a fabulous cottage! On arrival we found a very comfy and cosy retreat, situated in the hamlet of Thorgill near Rosedale Abbey. No WiFi or mobile signal, the only means of contact with the outside world was via a payphone in the cottage. It was brilliant! The walks around Rosedale and beyond start right from the front door and suit all abilities. Our particular favourite was along the route of the old mineral railway at the top of Chimney Bank. The views from here across Rosedale and beyond are amazing. It was lovely to come back from our walks and settle down next to a roaring fire with a glass of something warming! I would recommend this cottage to anyone looking to get away from it all. It is isolated, but that is part of its appeal. If you need any help, the neighbours are wonderful. Special thanks to Mike for lending us a dog lead (long story!) "
"Fantastic location with the most beautiful scenery. Be warned very remote - just what I wanted a complete getaway, but for some it may be too isolated. House in great condition and furnishings top quality. Open fire an added bonus. Ideal place for walking. Did not miss lack of wi-fi -helped to make the holiday a complete break. Can,t wait to return"
