The former fishing village of Skinningrove sits on the Cleveland Way, and visitors will find an assortment of engaging cottages and houses plus a variety of shops within its boundaries. It has a sandy beach ideal for children and families, and the area is excellent for fossil hunting amongst the rocks on the foreshore. Skinningrove was also part of the Ironstone mining industry and there is a museum in the area that charts its industrial history. Saltburn is six miles away and has kept much of its Victorian heritage, including the oldest water balanced cliff tramway in Britain, well worth a visit. Skinningrove is an ideal place base to discover the wonderful moorland scenery and the many coastal towns and villages in the area, making it a great holiday base.

"This was the first time myself and my dog stayed at Bishop`s Cottage, Skinningrove, and I was delighted. The cottage was spacious, clean, and very comfortable. Staff were very helpful and friendly. I love Skinningrove, and I have visited there many times, as I have friends in Loftus. It isn`t the prettiest place, but is unspoilt and it has interesting history. I love the beaches; the people are friendly and I notice that they are trying hard to enhance one or two areas , especially involving local children in `pride of Skinningrove` I definitely will return. "what a fantastic cottage , set in quiet grounds. Then cottage itself was immaculate outside and within . spotlessly clean. Then owners live on site and could not have been more accomadating with places of interest for touring . Also the owners have no problems with dogs and mine certainly enjoyed her stay . would definately stay again"

"Bishop cottage is a new build mews type accomodation, built on the site of what was once the pit ponies stables. When we stayed there in December 2010, only half the complex was finished, but the surroundings were well kept and presentable. The cottage is well furnished, very well heated, and compact. There are nice touches in terms of the furnishings. The property though misses perhaps more seating in the living room, a window in the kitchen, and a safe enclosed garden outdoors for pets and children, all fairly minor admittedly. In terms of location a car is quite frankly an essential, the closest pub wasnt the most presentable, and albeit we visited over Christmas the fish and chip shop was closed, as was the ironstone mining museum. We of course booked self catering but were disappointed with the eating options therefore within walking distance, eating in most nights (there are supermarkets in Saltburn, Staithes, Loftus and Whitby) and enjoying the local fish and chips at lunchtime in Whitby generally! Skinningrove is an honest if unpicturesque former mining town, and that was the main source of its income till the sixties, so dont expect a Staithes, or a Robin hoods bay, the town just doesnt play to its locational strengths in those senses, at times walking around it we did wonder if we were by the seaside or in a durham mining town! it does though have easy access to some beautiful walking to both staithes and Saltburn (both a good couple of hours) Should the venture of the cottage complex take off then Skinningroves location is surely its strongpoint, but some kind of not even touristy but basic facilities are crying out to be built (a seafront cafe, a rehash of the towns only pub) In summary a nice cottage, but locationally with limitations if one expects evening entertainment."

"A wonderful complex situated on the quiet side of the village. The cottage was clean and well designed. The surronding area is beautifull and the adjacent iron mine is a must visit place. Down side is that there is not a decent pub within walking distance."

"We would gladly recomment this cottage to anyone. It cottage was superbly clean and comfortable, with many added extras on arrival. Our dog was very welcome, and the short walk to the dog friendly beach was completed twice a day much to the delight of the dog, who loves beaches. We will certainly be visiting one of Sykes Cottages again in the near future."
