Romaldkirk has to be one of the most delightful villages in Teesdale. It has all the main ingredients for a typical "chocolate-box" village with its greens, old stone built cottages, a beautiful old church and two pubs, one an AA Pub of the Year for England winner in 2003. Romaldkirk is surrounded by the outstanding Dales countryside and this makes the village an excellent base for walking and for touring around the Northern and Yorkshire Dales. There are fantastic fell, flat and river walks and cycle rides all from the doorstep and if you want to journey further afield then the Northern Lakes and the cities of Durham and Newcastle are an easy drive. Just a 10 minute drive away is the historic market town of Barnard Castle with many cultural and historical attractions all under the protective watch of Bernard de Balliol's stunning 12th Century castle.
Reviews
"My partner and I and our Dog Tyke had the most amazing time at this very special cottage. The workmanship that has gone into this cottage is to the highest standard. The owners are very welcoming and lovely to talk to. Wilfred and Parkin the donkeys are a bonus. Lovely orchard at the rear to sit in with a glass of wine and a good book. Private parking with lots of space. Five minute walk to the Rose and Crown, which is dog friendly with good food. A good base to explore Durham, Cumbria, Lake District, and Holy Island on the North East Coast. Wish we could have stayed longer and would highly recommend this warm comfortable cottage in this amazingly peaceful village. It fully deserves its Four star rating."
"A tiny flat not a cottage living dining and cooking area is cramed into a space 12ft by11ft .no coffee table cant watch tv if cooking as kitchen fan very noisy .bath to small if slighly larger tha average shower with plastic screen needs to be hand held and lots more .this is the worst place i have stayed dont understand any body given this kitchen a good review not worth one star"
"Althoug living/dining arena not to big....very cosy. Bedroom and bathroom very nice....every thing we needed was there. Hosts are very friendly and helpfull. Loved the area, beautiful settings."
"My girlfriend and I have just returned from a wonderful week staying here with our two dogs. The property is beautifully kept and is in a fantastic location, surrounded by walks and only one minute from a great pub (The Rose and Crown). We will definitely be returning!"
"A very well-equipped and comfortable cottage with wonderful views and lovely outside space. Slightly inconvenient not having a 'permanent' table - the gate-leg table was not ideal, otherwise very comfortable and the owners were very helpful and friendly but not at all obtrusive. Village delightful with great food at the Rose and Crown. Thoroughly recommend this cottage."
"Looked forward to our holiday for weeks - was not disappointed! The cottage had everything we needed. Very clean. The enclosed garden was a plus - especially for Roxy, our dog. Great views. We arrived on the day of the village fete - we went along and were made vey welcome."
"Friendly, helpful owners, lovely cottage and grounds, handy for trips out and our GSD had a great time and a nice friend at hand, very quickly tracked my husband to the local pub. very relaxing holiday, recommended"

"Romaldskirk is a beautiful unspoilt village near Barnard Castle, Teesdale. The cottage was warm and welcoming, kitted out with everything you could possible need. I couldn't have asked for a better weeks break in October. I was researching my family tree and I found the local people freindly and helpful. Teesdale is a wonderful area for walking the scenery is stunning. I will definately be going back."
