The lovely little spa town of Strathpeffer grew up after the discovery of exceptionally pure springs in the 18th Century. The waters were declared the healthiest in Britain in 1819 and the town burgeoned from there. The pavilion has been restored and is now used as a venue for events including concerts, dramas and live theatre. The former railway station was built in the Victorian times and it now serves as home to The Highland Museum of Childhood and craft workshops. Holiday makers can still sample the water in the old pump house, which is also a Tourist Information point. There are lovely walks to explore nearby and Strathpeffer is super base for a holiday as it is close to many attractions and only 20 miles from the thriving city of Inverness.
Reviews
"This was a good base for all the activities which we had planned to do on our holiday. On the whole the property was good but a few niggly points for me, there was not enough space around the table for 6 people only 4, there was no family size freezer, and if you are not cooking or eating out (which the owner commented to me on arrival) why is there a dishwasher . Owners would be better off advertising the property as 4 and not 6."
"An excellent holiday chalet: very comfortable, great location, wonderful views. The only problem - not a big one - is that the directions to the property were unhelpful (unlike the owners who came to meet us and show us the way)"
"This property is well located for discovering the Scottish highlands, with easy access to hills and coast."
"This is a well equipped chalet with nice views and very welcoming hosts. It is well located for visiting the Highlands if you don't fancy moving around to a different B&B every few days. Do not even attempt to find it on your own the first time, phone Alan the owner and he is happy to come and guide you from Strathpeffer."
"Difficult to find, but when we did find it, it was well worth it! The cottage was very well equipped, and had some nice treats waiting for us on arrival , It was clean and warm if the weather had been better we might have enjoyed The balcony a bit more! Spectacular views, welcoming house holder, nothing to Criticize, only praise! An enjoyable 3 days."
"I visited the chalet along with my parents, cousin and dog. Views from the chalet are stunning and the chalet itself is immaculate, welcoming and well equipped. The owners are very friendly and helpful. There are so many places to visit from this base. We will certainly be going back."
"The owners were welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. Our cottage was the larger of two alpine style chalet buildings which are have a hillside location. The cottage was warm and comfortable for four of us and two dogs. Two of us are young fit people who could climb the loft ladder for access to the upstairs bedroom without difficulty. The cottage would be OK for up to five people. It is close to Strathpeffer with easy access to main routes. There are good walks for folks and dogs around Strathpeffer including excellent woodland and hill walks."
