Strathpeffer is a lovely little spa town 20 miles from Inverness and only four and a half miles from Dingwall. The town grew up after the spring waters were discovered in the 1700s. In 1819 the waters were pronounced to be the healthiest in Britain and visitors to the town can still sample their delights in the old pump house. There are numerous walks around the area and the mountains of Glen Affric and the North West Highlands are close by. There is also good fishing to be enjoyed on lochs or rivers. The old Victorian Railway Station in Strathpeffer now serves as the Highland Museum of Childhood and no doubt will spark many memories. It is also home to local craft workers and shops selling their wares. A great base for exploring this lovely region.
Reviews
"Red kites outside the front veranda. Little difficult to find but your hosts will guide you in Nicely appointed but upstairs is via a ladder. Well heated. Dishwasher etc. warm. Very central for touring Northern Scotland "
"Have you ever wanted to get off the grid? - then this is for you. a wonderful quiet chalet in the heart of Ross-shire, with outstanding features. Great comfortable and everything I needed. excellent quality fixtures and fittings. Magnificent welcome, and relaxed environment. The Chalet has a great view out to Strathpeffer and the fresh air was great. would go back again in a heartbeat, and could quite happily have stayed for a month. Really well heated, insulated, nice little features like a welcome pack of wine and chocolates, heated mattress and homely features, would stay here over a hotel any day of the week and twice on Sunday. 12 out of 10."
"The chalet was so well equipped and was lovely and warm. Mr and Mrs Ross were a lovely couple and we even got a bottle of wine and a box of chocolates on arrival. Would definitely return again just loved it."
"I found this little lodge really cosy, well stocked with everything you would need. The owner was extremely helpful and welcoming - there was even a bottle of wine and chocolates waiting when I arrived - a nice touch. The lodge is in a good location and is lovely and peaceful, my only gripe was Strathpeffer itself - it seemed to be shut all the time - shops close at lunchtime when a lot of people want to shop but that didn't really detract from my stay that much as I had the car and travelled about. I would certainly recommend the lodge."
"Great place for a holiday if you want peace and quiet and central for touring about the highlands. I would recommend it."
"Great holidays in a lovely place (and house). Fantastic location to explore Highlands. Absolutely recomended."
"Owners were very welcoming - leaving wine for the asdults and sweets for the children. The chalet was exceptionally clean and very comfortable with tremendous views looking down into the village of Strathpeffer. We were very lucky with the weather and made the most of the outside furniture and the balcony. Ideal for touring The Black Isle, we also went across to Ullapool and down to Landmark at Carrbridge.Plenty to see and do in fair weather and Inverness on the doorstep to explore if rainy."
"Our experience at Strathpeffer was wonderful. We wanted to do some exploring and follow the Pictish trail. We did all of that and much more. The early winter in mid November gave us sunshine and sparkling frost every day and was just beautiful. We met the friendly, welcoming Ross family as well as Caruso, the Highland Bull and his lovely family. I work as an artist and now have many sketches and photographs to work with from this beautiful area. It is central for exploring around northern Scotland from Ulapool to Dunrobin Castle and beyond. The Scottish Victorian village of Strathpeffer with it's interesting history is also worth coming back to see again in the season when it's visitor attractions will be open. We will certainly be returning to this peaceful retreat in the Highlands."
