Composed of a scattering of farms and cottages, the little hamlet of Linwood is found towards the western end of the New Forest National Park, not far from Ringwood - a community well served by two pubs renowned for their good food and real ales. The New Forest, the country's smallest National Park, is comprised of 150 square miles of magnificent woodland and heather covered heathland dotted with picturesque villages. The area is famous for its unusual wildlife such as herds of wild ponies, cattle and deer, and a great many species of birds. The forest is full of wonderful paths, which are great for walking, cycling and horse riding with bike hire and pony trekking available from nearby Burley. The famous National Motor Museum at Beaulieu is within easy reach, as are the stunning gardens at Exbury.

"Fabulous natural area which was peaceful but alive with a huge variety of wildlife - Nuthatches feeding young in the garden, Nightjars on the heath, and a full selection of ponies, cattle and donkeys along the track which leads to a pub at either end. Cabin was clean with small but fully equipped kitchen, homely lounge, comfortable bedroom, and clean bathroom with great power shower. Secure pet friendly garden complete with table/chairs and BBQ. The owners are characterful, knowledgeable and friendly - they leave you to get on with things, but the sort who would be fully supportive if there were any issues. Perfect for us as a base to do loads of local heath and woodland walks, but with good road connections enabling you to strike out further - Budgens at Shell station on Ringwood road in Blashford served us well for whole 2 week stay. We will return..."

"Just sitting down with a cuppa on our return from a wonderful week hidden away in the lovely Endymion. We did a lot of research before booking this hide away. We were looking for somewhere in the heart of the forest, a short walk from a pub and a back to basic feel - all boxes ticked and then some in the end. The cottage is cute, rustic, cosy and situated within the forest with walks at the door step - our threes dogs have been well and truly exercised! We can highly recommend High Corner Inn and the Red Shoot, had lovely meals at both pubs. We also found the New Forest Inn in the centre of the forest and that was lovely too. The beaches were only a short drive away and most dog friendly at this time of the year. It really is paradise for dogs. Steve and Judy were very welcoming and friendly - something we really appreciated. The biggest compliment we can make is that we cannot wait to return!"

"Location of our stay was in a lovely part of the New Forest, however on arrival we immediately thought that we had paid way over the top for what was on offer. The 'cabin' felt similar to staying in a b&q shed and was grubby. We left a day early as was unable to get the shower to work and no contact was made with the owner during our stay. On return we contacted Sykes Cottages with whom we made the booking and told them of our experience especially shower facilities not working. They contacted the owner who denied anything was wrong. I had take a video of the shower not working which clearly showed the issue however it was still denied. I feel annoyed that we had to cut short our holiday and wasted money on this booking. My recommendation would be to avoid."

"Great location just a shame about the cleanliness of the cottage and the crockery etc. Very dark inside and all rather grubby & 'tired. Lots of cobwebs & spiders. Could be made into a wonderful romantic getaway with some money spending on the interior. New pillows etc would certainly help. Finding snails climbing up the bathroom walls was not the best experience. The bed settee couldn't be used properly as not really enough space to put up safely. Cooking facilities very basic. On a positive note the bottle of wine & flowers were a nice gesture. The pictures on the website are also out of date. High Corner pub (just a short walk/drive away) do a wonderful Sunday lunch carvery and good evening meals."

"This charming little chalet was set in a quiet part of the new forest..an ideal location if you want to drop off the map.we were left some provisions to get us started along with flowers on the table & a bottle of wine.there was a woodburner to keep the chalet cosy in the evening along with a plentiful supply of wood.a bbq where they even left a supply of charcoal..we took our two dogs that were welcome as there was an enclosed garden.we sat and watched various colourful birds on the feeders in the late afternoon including a pair of woodpeckers.a pub that did food & had a large was a 10 minute walk down the lane.thoroughly recommended relaxing break & we shall be returning."

"This cabin in right in the forest and a great place to stay for a break. We stayed for a week with our 2 dogs and loved it. Yes, it is small, but it is a cabin so that's to be expected - if you read the property details your expectations should be set correctly. Kitchen facilities are limited but there is a barbecue (coal was also provided!). There are 2 pubs within walking distance - 1 about 8 mins and the other 45 mins - both of which welcome dogs and have a good selection of food and drink. The owners dogs were out in the garden but were very friendly and at no time attempted to get into our part of the garden. Before we left we were already discussing when we could come back again, fantastic week and can't wait for our next visit."

"We stayed for a week and feel it was more suited for a long weekend. Although we both loved the charm of the cottage I don't feel we would particularly return. The forest location is great really quiet, however from the photos shown we assumed we would be away from other properties, we weren't we were in the same yard as the owners who had two noisy dogs. I am frightened of alsations and found it intimidating. They also had a number of cars on the from including a souped up Peugeot that came growling up the path at times. Three of the table lights didn't work and we only saw the owner once and we were desperate for more wood so ended up buying candles to use instead of getting bulbs. The kitchen was small with no oven so cooking was a pain. It was fine for the short time we spent inside and the owner was lovely but personal preference we wouldn't go back."

"We stayed in a lovely little rustic cabin in the New Forest. Located in a quiet area of the owners garden. Very relaxing and tranquil. Walks on the doorstep. Very dog friendly. Pub within walking distance, serving good food. Sadly, we found when lighting the woodburner, we were unable to relax infront of the fire. The front of the woodburner did not have glass that you could see through, and so we were not able to see the flame. This was a shame, as this was one of the main reasons we rented the cabin. We also found that the en-suite shower room had a strong odour from the damp. Only having an electric wall heater, which we found very warm, but not enough to stop the damp smell."

"The place was truly beautiful, the forest amazing with animals running free. But the cottage was right next to owners house who were always snooping around, knocking on our door and rudely threw us out at 9.55 am ( 10 am is usually the leaving hour). Won't repeat or recommend!"

"Have to say I was a little disappointed with this property. Yes it is tucked away in some fantastic countryside with some great walks right on the doorstep but in reality it is a small wooden cabin which can only be easily accessed with a 4x4 vehicle as it is reached in either direction for at least a mile along a rough, potholed forest track (in fairness to the owner he was improving the worse of the ruts near the cabin when we were there). Although the owner has made some nice little homely touches the kitchen is tiny and along with the bathroom just about adequate but nothing special. Although there is a woodburner it is cracked and in need of replacement so is not very efficient at heating up the property which, due to its construction, is very draughty in cold weather. The property looked as if it could do with a bit of a facelift and some new furniture - the dining table and chairs are very wobbly. It's a good base if you are looking for somewhere within easy reach of Ringwood/Christchurch/Beaulieu etc, all of which are an easy drive away, or you like walking/have dogs and don't intend doing much cooking and are only going to return to the cabin to sleep. Oh, and if it's important to you to have a decent mobile signal/broadband access this property is not for you! Mobile signal very patchy, only worked on and off nearby and not in the cabin. There are a great couple of pubs within walking distance, both of which are very friendly, welcome muddy boots/paws and serve great value food. The Red Shoot is about 25 mins walk from Endymion, High Corner Inn about 15 mins away."

"This was the most peaceful lovely little cottage ever. Right in the middle of forest, ponies at the gate, we had a tremendous time and so did our dogs. Really made welcome by Steve & Judy who own the cottage. Wonderful and so wish I lived there period."

"Such a shame we managed to book up in November time, and it turned out to be when the big freeze (Feb) was happening. Despite this, the place was beautiful, warm, clean and welcoming and the hosts so friendly and helpful( esp.when my partners motorbike got stuck in the unexpected snow!). Really gorgeous clean, cosy place with some surprise welcome provisions. Loads to do. Just take a satnav and go when the weather's a little less treacherous!"

"This place is exactly as advertised. Right in the heart of the New Forest but with a lovely pub that serves excellant food only 10 minutes walk away. Really good location for visiting the surrounding villages and the coast. We had 2 small dogs with us and they loved it too. Will definitely be booking again for next year."

"arrived early but no problem owner greeted us and told us whats what and where it is. they also supplied a bottle of wine, milk, etc etc and brought us a drink when we went to the local pub. The home was great and the location was very peaceful. The amenities where ok but could do with a cooker and oven than just the rings. Even our dogs had bowls supplied for them This was the first of many visits we will be making. Both local pubs can be got to by walking. Best trying the Red Shoot its open allday all year round. Seeing the Horses, Cows and Pigs walking about free was really nice. Our only downside was the rain but it was November"
