The tiny hamlet of Bylaugh, noted for its Saxon round-towered church, is situated along the River Wensum between the villages of Swanton Morley and Bawdeswell. Both of these larger villages boast a shop and pubs that serve excellent food. Swanton Morley also has a butchers and delicatessen as well as a village bakery. Close by is the large market town of Dereham which provides a number of shops and supermarkets, a sports centre, cinema, church, museums, and the Mid Norfolk Heritage Railway. There is also a traditional weekly market held on Tuesdays and Fridays in the square. The city of Norwich is close by and is packed with quality bars and restaurants in addition to its impressive cathedral and castle. The surrounding countryside offers many great opportunities for walking, fishing and cycling and is within reasonable driving distance of Sandringham, the Norfolk Showground and the beaches at Cromer and Hunstanton.
Reviews
"We loved our week in this lovely little cottage in a wonderful peaceful setting and will most definitely return. The cottage was spotlessly clean with good quality furnishings and equipment. The owners Jackie and Kev were very welcoming and went out of their way to make our stay perfect. There is a lovely seating area outside overlooking their beautiful peaceful garden. We were very lucky with the weather and enjoyed relaxing after our days out. There is a utility room shared by the two holiday lets and we were encouraged to help ourselves to fresh towels and bedding. This was a first in all our years of renting holiday cottages! Great selection of DVD's, books and games. It was our first visit to Norfolk and the location was perfect for exploring the county."
"Lovely cottage, well fitted out and absloutely immaculate, so clean, feel relaxed immediately, Kev and Jacky owners very genuine people , so helpful"
"fantastic property brilliant views of countryside smashing owner just out of this world location central to all attractions in norfolk"
"The lodge was beautiful so clean warm and alovely relaxing place to stay owners so friendly and helpful ,a great base for exploring norfolk would recommend to everyone wish we had stayed for weeks"
"An excellent country cottage set in a secluded spot with all the main amenities for a weeks holiday. The very friendly and helpful owners give you a welcome and answer any questions regarding the area and the facilities. The Cottage is well equipped and finished to a high standard; with wooden floors throughout. As a Fisherman, the Owners provided me with all the information I needed to fish the nearby River Wensum; the free sections and the meadows I could roam. The rural setting is perfect to see old Churches and Mills in lovely village situations. This is a place to unwind and relax if you are a town dweller or feel at home if you are, like me, a rural dweller. A first class holiday situation for any weather."
"We were greeted in a friendly yet non-invasive way and had a nice selection of groceries left for our use. The cottage looked new and pristine and we felt at home and comfortable straight away with many books and DVD for our use if required. We had a very peaceful stay and enjoyed the shared garden and the local wildlife, especially seeing deer out of the window while having breakfast. The cottage is in an ideal position for fishing and walking. I would certainly recommend this to all. My thanks to the caring owners too."
"This is a fantastic holiday cottage; its photographs do not do it justice! From outside and from the details shown it looks quite tiny - it is beautiful; very spacious with everything you could ask for and, if it wasn't there we only had to ask - not that we needed to. The location was quiet yet easily accessible with good road links to the many local towns, villages and attractions. The area is crammed with things to do, so much so that we ran out of time in one week! The owners were very helpful and knowledgable about their area without being intrusive in any way. We could not find any fault and would love to go back again soon."
"Wonderful hosts...Lovely accommadation.A perfect holiday."
"The owners were most welcoming with many unexpected extras. Nothing was too much trouble for them, they were most accomodating. The cottage had everything, and more, that you would need for your stay. The location was perfect for touring the area, whether you wanted a trip to the north or east coast or to the many places of interest inland. There were also many lovely walks around the lanes/roads nearby to unwind in the evenings after a day sightseeing. The cottage is perfect for two who like to be able to see open fields whilst having breakfast. We could not think of anything negative to say about our stay, only that it was not long enough, but that is the fault of us not the cottage and its owners."
"could not have a better holiday in all the 6 years we have stayed in cottages from cornwall devon this was the best and the owners 5 star"
"Both myself and my husband were extremely pleased with the accomodation. It was impeccably clean, well laid out in beautiful surroundings. Nothing was too much for the owners and they even laid on some provisions. We had full use of the washer/dryer & freezer at no extra cost. I cannot fault this property at all. I have slight walking difficulties but found this cottage to be ideal."
"Our stay here in August was our 2nd stay at this wondeful cottage. We were so impressed the 1st time we came back. The cottage was exceptionally clean, the furnishings lovely. We had the full use of a utility room with washer ,dryer, clothes maiden, freezer. The situation of the Little Lodge was very pleasant with lots of wildlife on the doorstep. A good centre for visiting the Norfolk coast and not far from the Park and Ride for the city of Norwich,we even ventured into Suffolk visiting Bressingham Gardens. Best of all were the owners who did everything to make our stay enjoyable. The welcome pack was extensive.Replacement towels and bed linen were readily available. There was lots of DVDs to watch in the evenings. We would highly recommend this cottage. Mr and Mrs N Sharpe"
