In a truly idyllic position, the 100-acre estate of Talhenbont lies in the beautiful unspoilt countryside of the Lleyn Peninsula. Within the estate are many exciting activities for guests staying at the immaculately restored cottages such as an all weather tennis court, outdoor chess,, an adventure playground for children. The Talhenbont estate is one of the finest self catering retreats in Wales, but the area's attractions aren't limited to those on site. The local area offers a variety of castles, beaches, golf courses and the Snowdonia National Park as well as an extensive range of succulent dishes provided by local restaurants and inns. The climate of this area of Wales is particularly mild, making it an ideal vacation spot regardless of the time of year.
Reviews
"The living room and bedrooms were so quaint and cosy, but the kitchen could do with a makeover. Our main problem was that we couldn't get internet and as we were there for my husband's work that caused problems. We managed to get hold of one of the owners (difficult to get mobile reception as well) who told us to try getting it another way, but that wouldn't work either. On the whole a lovely cottage."
"We've just spent a fantastic weekend at the Bothy Cottage in the Talhenbont Hall estate. The cottage just oozes character from every corner but was also very comfortable. Paul was very welcoming as we arrived and through the weekend. The gardens are so interesting and quirky, and a beautiful golden pheasant followed us around while we explored the aviary and quackery. The woodlands and river are wonderful to explore, although some areas were out of bounds due to winter maintenance. We do hope to return sometime."
"The Bothy is a beautifully converted cottage with everything necessary for a self catering holiday. It is spotlessly clean, and very comfortable. It stands right next to Talhenbont Hall (a beautiful Manor House) along with a couple of other holiday lets round a courtyard area. The gardens are all open planned so dogs and young children need supervision, but as they are in the middle of the 75 acre estate there is no traffic. The grounds are brilliant, with peacocks and other exotic birds, humorous notices and statues, and lots of interesting walks in the woodlands by the river. The cottage is suitable for up to 4 people. The toilet is downstairs. There is an outdoor tennis court immediately outside the back door. There is no telephone land-line in the cottage and no mobile phone signals in the vicinity."
"Chose this property because we thought it offered the opportunity to spend some time exploring without needing to drive to visit places. The property is part of a large estate which has many querky features that make it an enjoyable place to wander around. The quackery for example is much more than just a few ducks but an amazing mixture of plants, birds and strange statues and follies. In addition, a walk along the riverside should not be missed as it has an amazing collection of metal artwork that has displays great imagination and humour. The property itself is also unusual but very comfortable and the dining room gives a great view over the garden. The peacocks obviously appreciate the visitors and one would often sit on the outside chair staring into the dining room looking for something to eat but always friendly. Would certainly return if coming back to this area."
"Very pleasant location, handy for Porthmadog etc. Cottage well equipt etc. Very private location"
"My husband and I and our two sons, aged 4 and 2 stayed here in June and were knocked out! It's an eccentric, charming place with loads to explore, and so many things for the kids to find. In no particular order, the woods were brilliant - figures, goblins, a flying witch, things creeping into the water, even a skeleton in a shed! A beautiful river meanders through the woods and you can paddle and even fish for trout. Friendly peacocks everywhere, ducks and fowl to look at, and feed if you turned up at half past 9, a Japanese garden, a real gypsy caravan for the kids to play in, larger than life models of the Blues Brothers(?!), a cool (home made!) adventure playground with 2 playhouses, and some lovely ornamental gardens. We stayed in the Bothy, which was very nice. It was well appointed, again, a little eccentric, slightly dated but none the worse for it as it felt homely and well looked after and very clean. The only minus that the place had was that the Bothy was very slightly damp, but we didn't mind, and it was totally outweighed by the general perfectness of Talhenbont Hall, and in particular the lovely lawn that the house had, and the tennis courts that were right next to it! It is a beautiful place in a great location, perfect for loads of different types of people. The owner Roger Good is lovely, as is the groundsman Paul who was amazed that we'd never tried duck eggs and got Mr Good to drop half a dozen by our house to try (V nice!) Also, we were accidentally 2 hours early arriving and Mr Good was charming about it. We'll definitely be back!"
"A delightful spot, with very comfortable and well furbished accommodation. The owner was charming and very willing to meet reasonable requests. Our grandchildren visited for the day and were made most welcome."
"The service was excellent. Roger Good (owner) was very welcoming and helpful. The cottage was lovely. A typical country cottage. The Talhenbont Estate was absolutely beautiful. The scenery was wonderful and the grounds were very well maintained. Roger basically let us roam free on his estate. He kept an avery and just outside our cottage were a family of Welsh Harlequin ducks which were adorable. The tennis courts were just outside our door. Porth Madog was just down the road and was beautiful. We would definately return to Talhenbont, and would recommend it to family and friends."
"Our cottage was well appointed and the setting of the Talhenbont Hall Estate is wonderful. A quiet, away from it all location, we made use of the tennis court and the children thoroughly enjoyed visiting the Quackery. The owner and his staff were very welcoming and even took the time to take our youngest son on his morning round to feed the sheep ! Recommended"
