Whitby is one of the most enduring tourist holiday destinations in the UK, with thousands of people heading to the town and its outskirts each year to enjoy the sandy beach, winding streets, pretty harbour, dramatic abbey and fresh fish and chips. There are plenty of shops, pubs and restaurants, plus the Dracula experience – if you dare! The beautiful scenery of the North York Moors National Park is within easy reach of the town, and offers superb walking and cycling, along with pretty villages, ideal for a pit-stop in a country-style tea-room.

"What a lovely cottage , excellent situation . Very deceptive from the outside because once inside it was huge , so impressive . However , on visiting the lovely , large kitchen , we found some of the cutlery somewhat unclean & some of the crockery too . For example , a large oven dish was not clean at all , we found this inside the oven . We had to wash this & the cutlery we were going to use . The plates in most instances were not matching & could do with an update , same with the mugs . There are some lovely sets out there now & not expensive , so there was no excuse for not having a good one in the cottage . The bedrooms were fantastic , very spacious & the beds were so comfy & warm . Mum is 80 now & so we could have done with the heating being better . It may be warm in the Spring & Summer , but it was Autumn when we were there & it was quite cold during the evening time . We kept having to ask for the heating to be turned up . But all in all a lovely cottage"
"Spacious accommodation with comfortable beds and in a handy location. A bit of a climb from Whitby centre, but most places are! Kitchen is great but might benefit from a new oven/hob and microwave. I do intend to make a return booking."
"The property has no parking at all and its quite a walk for anyone with any type of disability from the car park which is a good ten minutes walk away. The trick is when you could get parked, just forget you even have a vehicle to you are due to leave. The house although tidy was dirty in places and could have done with a lick of paint. We spent most of our time in the kitchen which is more or less a basement. A good central location though, just the steepness of the climb to get back to the property which was a tad too much for some in our party. The cottage was very well equipped although someinstructions for the microwave would've been a good idea as its quite old."
"We have stayed here with friends twice this year. It is a well equipped property with everything you need for your holiday. It is within walking distance of all the attractions of Whitby, I won't say easy walking because the route home can be steep if you have been out all day. The kitchen downstairs is huge with a great big table which meant we sat down there a lot of the time. The bedrooms are well appointed and the beds comfy. We will certainly try to come back again."
"The house is very deceiving from the outside - it's like the Tardis. Once inside - it's massive with plenty of room for the whole family. We hardly used the living room and the next door dining room, we spent most of our time in the amazing family kitchen spending valuable time with family ( that had gathered for my parents 50th wedding anniversary). We proved to be the base!! There were just two short-falls - one was the lack of parking - which we managed to cope with but the other was that I had to wash most of the cutlery, utensils, crockery, pans etc from the kitchen before using them. Other than that the rest of the house was very clean. We would definately return to abbeys View in the future. Ps It was also great that we could take our German Shepherd dog - who also loved it!! Pps The view from the kitchen is great over-looking the abbey!! We know Whitby well and just love the town and it's atmosphere - if we are lucky we will re-tire to Whitby!!"
"I think people are often afraid to put bad reviews on, which in a way often spoils it for people looking for decent accommodation. The good points, lovely kitchen, short walk to Whitby centre. The rest of the house looked like it needed a good make over. With no character at all. The carpets were very shabby and full of dog hairs. I have stopped in several places in Whitby, all of which I would reccommend I would not reccommend this or stop here again."
"Our group of 6 found this cottage to be very almost perfect! Apart from oven gloves and tea towels the place was amazing. Catered for our holiday perfectly. The yard out back is just big enough to do those little disposable Bbq's if you are ok to then eat inside. The place was clean and welcoming. Great location far enough away from the main roads to get good sleep even with the windows open but close enough to the town and beach. The co-op is less then 5 minutes walk away, be wary it is up hill on the way back so if you buy lots of booze and other heavy stuff best to take a few of you to help carry. Parking is a bit of pot luck but still quite readily available. Sat Navs don't like finding this place and take you right past it so best to keep an eye out when you know you are close. I would be more then happy to book this again for future Wgw's."
"Lovely, well decorated , warm house. Great position. Very helpful couple where we collected the key. Great location Just remember to take towels... Would definately rent the house again Feiendly helpful owner"
"We have stayed in this property for long weekend breaks in Feb 2011 & Feb 2012. Lovely big house with a fantastic kitchen, very clean & well presented property, only a few minutes walk from the shops. Look forward to our feb break in 2013!"
"We were looking for a something to rent in Whitby itself for a week that catered for our grown up sons to join us for part of the week. We were really pleased with abbey View. Its location is perfect, and pretty much once you have arrived and been lucky enough to find a parking space you could choose to not use your car again until you left. Located minutes from the beach, the train station (you even see the steam trains coming and going when you are washing up), restaurants, shops (including a supermarket), the habour and the abbey itself, it was just what we wanted. The house itself is over 4 floors, and the bedrooms are all lovely. The kitchen, though huge, was slightly oddly laid out so you always seem to be a long way from something you needed and I really struggled to get on with the cooker and there were no manuals to assist me. I don't do too much cooking on a week's holiday but do expect to be able to produce a decent cooked breakfast, but we got there in the end. We particularly enjoyed the food at the famous Magpie Cafe (there are a limited number of tables you can book but do this before you go) and walking along the beach to Sandsend. Would recommend the house and Whitby to friends and plan to return."
"Super accommodation, tastefully decorated and very modern with all mod cons. Only drawback was extremely poor parking arrangements."
