Reviews
"We stayed at the cottage at the beginning of September and it is situated in a fantastic location, which is very peaceful and serene. The cottage is fantastic to use as a base to travel around to all the surrounding villages, peak district and Alton Towers which is right on your doorstep. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay."
"We had a really lovely week, cottage in such a beautiful setting. So tranquil and yet 10 mins drive from shops, Alton towers etc."
"We are a family with a small dog and teenagers and we discovered that Barks offered us everything and more. With Alton Towers a short 10 minute journey away, we were able to drop the teens off at the very convenient Alton Towers drop off point (under 5 min walk to main entrance) and head off ourselves to explore the surrounding area - Dovedale Stepping Stones, the beautiful Trentham Gardens and the Ramblers Retreat in Dimmingsdale for a delicious lunch. We also took advantage of the dog walking service one day and joined our girls at Alton Towers which we thoroughly enjoyed. We booked directly with Catherine and James via their website and found them very easy to deal with and so accommodating. The bottle of Prosecco in the fridge when we arrived was a lovely touch and very well received. The cottage is surrounded by a lovely garden, perfect for sitting outside with a glass of wine after a busy day exploring. We found the cottage to be very clean and it had everything we needed. We will definitely return. It is perfectly situated for Alton Towers, exploring the beauty of the surrounding areas or if you're just looking for somewhere to chill, relax and recharge in the peaceful hamlet of Moneystone."
"Lovely cottage very well equipped and clean, James and Catherine the owners are lovely and really helpful. We stayed for 4 nights and being dog friendly was a real bonus, we also made use of the dog sitting service provided by the owners, which allowed us to visit Alton towers!. The cottage has lovely walks right on the doorstep with gorgeous tea rooms serving coffee and cakes. Thank you James and Catherine for a lovely stay and we will definitely be coming back in the future"
"Lovely cottage. Clean and well-equipped. Convenient for Alton Towers and the Peak District. Had a really good week here"
"Visiting family in the area I was disappointed to discover how little dog friendly accommodation there is in the area of Alton Towers. In fact a recommendation from another B&B owner pointed me towards Barks and we were very happy with what we found. A great location with stunning scenery all around, perfect for relaxing, we fully intend to go back later this year."
"We stayed at Barks Cottage for a short New Years break for 4 nights at the end of December. We left it late to book anywhere but luckily they had the dates available. We were attracted by the fact its pet friendly and the location just on the edge of the Peak District. It's a new area for us, but we really enjoyed it. The cottage is lovely, tucked down a track in the quiet Hamlet of Moneystone, yet not far from Oakamoor, Cheadle and Alton. There were 2 adults and 1 Border Collie. The cottage is 2 bedroomed and has a large kitchen, large dining/lounge and a good bathroom with a large shower. The real fire was lovely and a bonus. The supply of logs was very generous. Most cottages give you the 1st basket free, but that usually consists of 6 logs!! We probably only used half the logs provided and had a fire every night. The kitchen is really well equipped with a good dishwasher, full sized oven and a fridge freezer. The lounge had a brilliant 32 inch TV which also makes a change! It was also nice to have a decent supply of essentials like condiments, cleaning materials etc. We are walkers and this cottage didn't let us down in that sense! There are loads of walks from the door (the track is actually a public footpath) and the walks in the area are lovely. We walked approx 10 miles each day, didn't touch the car and hardly met anyone which is nice when you have a slightly grumpy dog! James and Catherine were lovely people. The booking process was simple and they live next door if you have any problems. They also keep hens and ducks if you want eggs, you can purchase some. A nice touch was a bottle of Champagne waiting for us to celebrate the New Year. There are nearby supermarkets and shops in Cheadle which is only a 10 min drive away if you need it. They also offer pet sitting services, though we didn't use them. All in all a lovely break in a really nice cottage. Thank you!"
"Loved the cottage, appreciated the wildlife, especially the owl. Fantastic location. 8 year old son & 14y.o daughter loved the holiday too. There are no fences, which if the description is read properly mentions this along with "free roaming fowl and livestock" if you have well trained & well behaved dogs/kids this should not be a problem. I arrived to the property & left the property in a clean state. If the previous guest had a problem then I am sure the owners would have done something about it. I found the owners very welcoming & pleasant. would love to come back oneday. Love the ability to see all the stars at night. Dogs loved it too."
"Spent several days here with my brother and sister-in-law over the New Year period and we all thought the cottage was lovely! Gorgeous walks in all directions, all the usual amenities and that log fire to give it a relaxing atmosphere. Would love to come back in the summer. Owners were very helpful and welcoming. Our kids had a lovely time."
"Loved every minute of our stay in this cosy cottage. Great walking in immediate area and short drive away. Very helpful owners who provide a wealth of information re walks and places to visit and eat out."
"Very easy to book with friendly helpful staff. Met by very friendly owner on arrival. We were almost adopted by one of the owners small dogs! Cottage was very clean and tidy with all you will need. Large amounts of games, books provided to keep kids entertained if staying in. plenty of local walks and such a quiet location. Our stay went so quickly. Very reasonable food at The admiral Jervis in Oakamoor"
