The wonderful ancient, fishing port of Whitby has many attractions, shops, pubs and restaurants. The town is in an excellent location to explore the North York Moors National Park. Some of Whitby's most appealing attributes are the winding streets and hidden alleys, as well as its pretty harbour and lovely beaches. The most famous attraction in Whitby is the cliff top ruins of Whitby Abbey, built in the 13th century, which is reached by its well known 199 steps. Other attractions in Whitby are Captain Cook Memorial Museum, the scary Dracula Experience, Whitby Museum and the beautiful Pennett Park. Further afield, are the stunning North York Moors and the seaside villages and towns of Robin Hoods Bay, Staithes and Scarborough. Whitby is a perfect town and area all year round.
Reviews
"Everything was perfect and as described. Spotlessly clean and extremely comfortable. Lots of generous space considering how small it is."
"Right in the centre of Whitby, a real home from home. Lovely and cosy, everything you could want and need. The beds are comfy with great bedding. Would not hesitate to book again, we loved it. The Wi-fi and a parking space in Whitby that is included is a bonus. We only stayed 2 nights, but if you were here longer there was a washer and dishwasher. Highly recommended."
"A beautiful property, clean, stylish & well equipped kitchen. Spend a warm cosy quiet week with my husband. Property ideally situated in the middle of town less than 5 minutes walk to the harbour & shops. Car parking space a great bonus as long as you have a small car. I have a Clio that just fit in the space. We couldn't have asked for anything finer as every comfort had been thought of. One down side was having to leave the property at 9.30 on the day of departure. But other than that a great find."
"Lovely clean and well equipped cottage. The slope was steep but no problem for myself or my daughter. There was a damp smell in the back bedroom, but then it's a very old building. Very comfortable and enjoyable stay. Wifi would have been great, but we found reception when out and about. "
"Cottage was spotlessly clean, well furnished and had everything you could possibly need. It's centrally located and a good size. We really enjoyed our stay and would only say it could do with wifi."
"My family and i are curently enjoying our week in Whitby staying in this lovely cottage having booked direct with the owner. There are 3 adults and a baby stayingnand we have taken the offer of the travel cot and highchair. Cottage is all on 1 level and is finished to a high modern standard with original features. We have stayed in several holiday cottages in the paddock over the years as its the best location to both whitby harbour & shops as well as to west cliff etc. We would not stay in another location now. ONLY crisitism is having NO WIFI...this really should come as standard in today's technology era."Steep"hill you use to access apartment from parking space isnt as bad as people make out and my mum who has arthritus managed it without a problem."
"The cottage is close to the Quay and shops. The downside is the very steep road to reach it, which you have to do by foot as there is no parking outside the cottage. The alternative route to reach the cottage is a series of steep steps. This is not mentioned on the website unfortunately. The cottage is modern in design but lacks enough crockery for 4 people. Also oven trays are in poor condition and no casseroles dishes. Such a pity as it's something that could easily be put right at little cost. As nobody else has mentioned this problem I can only presume that past guests have eaten out and not prepared their own meals. Be aware that Internet and mobile phone signals are poor in this area. We had our grandson with us for a study break from University and he had to cut his break short as he was unable to study at the cottage. I understand this is a problem in all areas of Whitby and not particularly with this cottage. I feel this cottage is only suitable for a maximum of 3 people as the second bed is just 4 foot wide, and the room very small."
"Characterful, spacious cottage with all amenities and modernised to a good standard. Has advantage of nearby parking space, although it is quite hazardous taking suitcases etc. from car to cottage due to extreme slope outside. Close to shops, restaurants, railway station and harbour. Main bedroom needs attention due to unpleasant damp, musty smell. Everything else, perfect!"
"Found this cottage on line and received great personal service from the owner. Cara helped me plan a surprise birthday trip for my son The cottage was delightful, well maintained, beautifully decorated and close to all the Whitby has to offer. Would recommend and would use again Thank you"
"We had a fab stay at the Blacksmith Cottage, it was right in the middle of whitby, so no need to get the car out. We had a great time and will deffinately be back"
"My family and I had a lovely time in whitby in febuary 2013. The oldblacksmith. Workshop we could not fault , it was very clean and big enough for the four of us the only let down was the parking we couldn't park in front of the accomandation to off load but we did manage. I would return to the cottage and recomend it to my friends and family."
"We booked well ahead using reviews and photos etc to decide. It was very difficult to find and we had to get a detailed msap from the tourist information in town. Once found the parking is very tight DO NOT take a large car as you will not fit in ! The Blacksmith's is very well laid out and very with everything you need for a short stay. The beds are comfortable enough with good, clean linen. Plenty of storage. The shower / bath is excellent. The lounge / kitchen area has it all... electric stove, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, kettle etc and all the instructions are provided and are easy to understand. It was a black spot for internet with the service very weak and very unreliable. Phone service was also very unreliable. I had a Vodafone card. There should also be a second house key provided in case you or your other family members arrive home at different times. I mentioned this to the owner and she did make note of it. The location is great with it being only a 2 minute downhill walk to the harbour front. It is up hill back home, but where in Whitby don'y you have hills? All in all a very pleasant stay and we would thoroughly recommend the Old Blacksmith's to anyone considering a stay in lovely Whitby"
"Lovely well thought out cottage. Nicely decorated. No outside space but as long as you don't plan to dry too much washing you are fine."
"We had a fantastic stay in this beautiful cottage, it was spotless and very comfortable and very close to the center of Whitby. I will definately go back and would recommend this to anyone."
"Well equipped and maintained holiday cottage in one of my favourite towns. High spec, clean and comfortable. Some noise from upstairs on one evening but nothing too bad. Only slight quibble would be the TV which seems to be suffer in comparison to the rest of the cottage."
"we loved the cottage, its location was perfect and we would deffinetely recommend this cottage to anyone."
"it was a lovely location and cottege we all enjoyed it will be back sometime hopfully."
