Reviews
"A converted barn attached to the main property that provides a warm and comfortable base to explore the region from. Its isolated location provides for peaceful relaxation, especially sat in the private garden area next to the gently flowing stream. It is possible to ascend Cader Idris by a little-used (and therefore; quiet) route directly from the cottage. Starting points for other high-level hikes and lower-level walks are very close-by. Finally, the warm welcome and helpful guidance make a warm start to the holiday. Ideal location, great value for money."
"we were looking for a short break away from it all and we found the perfect place. The first drive up the lanes to Maes Coch was a little little hairy but you soon get used to it. We arrived after a long journey and at once loved what we saw. The lovely home made fruit cake and everything to make a cuppa were a lovely welcome and very much appreciated. The views all around the cottage are breathtaking, it is the perfect place for peace and quiet with Dolgelleau only a couple of miles away, the Eurospar Supermarket was very useful and there are also a good choice of eating places, takeaways and the usual local butchers greengrocers and coffee shops. You can find just about anything you need without going any further. We can highly recommend The Gatehouse Steakhouse and the Lemongrass resturants.Although the weather was unfortunately mostly overcast or raining we found plenty to do and see and found the incredible sights of North Wales breathtaking. Sandra and Reece are always happy to advise and point you in the direction of anything you would like to see and there is a good supply of information leaflets available in the cottage. This lovely cottage is clean comfortable and and just about anything you could need is supplied, including lots of little extra touches like flask and tupperware boxes perfect for packing a picnic, reading books and local history info. We had a wonderful time and particularly loved the waterfalls at Ganllwyd and the drive up to Gregennan. First visit to Wales and Maes Cotch Cottage but we most deffinately hope to be able to return in ther near future. A big thankyou to you all for making our all too short stay such a memorable break."
"For anyone who really wants a totally secluded break away from it all this is the place to go. We hardly knew the owners were there. If you are staying there and don't intend going anywhere else for a few days, get your supplies in and you will be fine. Also on the positive side you can walk straight from the cottage and onto Cader Idris which we did on the second to last day. Just be aware that the drive up the hill to the cottage is not for the faint hearted but you do get used to it after a few days. Also be aware that the cottage is part of a working farm so there are sheep milling about in the fields but the lambs were great fun to watch in the evenings. The bird life was also amazing. There are also a few dogs in a kennel about fifty metres away from the cottage which did bark now and again, which could spoil the peace and quiet, especially when the rabbits hopped in to the yard where the dogs are kept."
"This cottage is suitable for people who like to get out of the rush of every daylife. It's peaceful and quiet up there. The location is perfect if you like to make walks. Around Dolgellau there are also lots of walks possible, just go to the tourist office. The westcoast of Wales is nearby to visit. Within an hour drive you find castles and there are interesting cities on the north side of Wales. A visit to Portmeirion, a village created in Itilian style, is a special discovery. Anyone who loves steamtrains can make a lot of trips in this region."
