"Near Gosforth, Wastwater district of the lakes. the weather was very mixed when we arrived but the cottage itself was inviting and comfortable. Many gadgets available in kitchen, I found it home from home. great to have a dishwasher and washing machine which we used a lot. Used the woodburning stove in the evenings when it was a bit chilly and the downstairs area warmed up a treat. Bathroom lovely but the taps on the bath were a bit dangerous, they were loose and the hot water meant it was very difficult to turn tap on or off without burning hands, I used a towel to do this."

"THE COTTAGE The cottage was reasonably clean and attractively furnished and equipped. We did have the turn the mattress, as it was sunken at one end. The kitchen would benefit from improved lighting. A plumber needs to provide attention to the bathroom where taps would rotate on the units. Although a washing machine was provided there was no means of hanging clothes to dry, which is an oversight. LOCATION This was not what we expected. If you are looking for a quiet and relaxing Lake District location then we would not recommend it. The cottage is one of many properties on an estate situate close together and next to a busy hotel. During our stay, we had to suffer outdoor live bands playing on the hotel lawn. Nonetheless, you do have freedom to roam the grounds which was a benefit when having small child."

"Having stayed away from the Lakes because we felt that the area was going to be crowded out with visitors we were delighted to find that the Western side is a far and fairly secluded place. Irton Is a great base and the accommodation is fine (but for goodness sake sort out the taps - kitchen, bathroom and sink). The wood pellet boiler heats the house really well and the kitchen is well equipped. Irton Hall is a bit whacky (William Court is privately owned) - the bar/restaurant; part of the hotel, is populated by business people but the food is OK. Might be better to check out both the Wasdale pubs. BUT this is a great place for great walks away from the crowd. There's an amazing route to Skafell from Eskdale where you'll probably not meet a soul until the summit and then gaze across to to nearby peak of Skafell Pike and see the masses that have walked up from the Eastern side. Wasdale is marvellous and the mountains to the North are all most rewarding. BEWARE - the bad manners of the people, that work at the nuclear power station; Sellafield, every day from about 4pm they rat-run their way home in a North Easterly direction across the countryside. On a narrow country road we met over 150 vehicles in a 10 mile stretch from Calder Bridge to Ennerdale Bridge - never met such headlong rude driving. They are a discredit to an otherwise lovely area."

"Irton Hall is in a quiet relaxing location with a good on site bar and restaurant. Lovely cottage with well equipped kitchen and bathroom but perhaps in need of a repaint in some areas and a check of the taps especially in the kitchen. There is no private garden area but plenty of space to walk your dog within the grounds."

"Do you know this was the first time I'd been to Cumbria and saw the top of the hill from the bottom. Our week started in rain and in deed finished the same. But the bit in the middle was beautiful. I guess you want to hear more about the cottage. A very smart cottage which was big enough for the two of us and our dog Jake. Good quality furniture, kitchen and bathroom. I do hope they have fixed the wobbly taps. Lovely location with a short walk to Irton Hall which is busy but great if you want a beer or can't be bothered to cook. Nice walk on peaceful roads to the pub and Santon. Lots of nice places to visit like Ravenglass. Don't bother with Millom. Liekd it so much would go next year."

"Stayed here with a family member for a week in August and found it delightful: we were looking for a peaceful, restful stay and that is exactly what we received. The cottage was spotless with all necessary equipment and facilities - we found it welcoming and comfortable. The location, although much further from the M6 than we had expected in terms of time, was beautiful and ideally placed for visiting the coast as well as Wastwater and Eskdale. We enjoyed the opportunity to use the hotel bar where the food was plentiful as well as the very pleasant Woodlands tea room in the nearby village where delicious meals are available. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and I fully intend to book again in the near future,"

"-Easy to find. -Fantastic location. -Bar on site and great local pubs with wonderful food and famous walking faces! -Well equipped cottage but could do with the lounge seating being made more 'comfortable/cosy' and a dressing table in the main bedroom. -All in all a great cottage for the money."

"The cottage was well appointed and it looked as though we were the first ever visitors from the paintwork and utensils. The main problem was finding which one it was when we arrived in the dark as there was no sign outside and nobody to ask. We eventually worked tried 2 keysafes and found the correct one! Apart from that we had a great week."
