The delightful village of Alnmouth can trace its history back 4,000 years to its beginnings as a Bronze Age settlement. The thriving community of today offers a warm welcome to visitors and the many local attractions include seemingly endless sandy beaches, a superb links golf course, fine rivers for fishing and a wide range of shops, restaurants, pubs and cafes. Alnmouth is four miles from the busy market town of Alnwick and its magnificent medieval castle. Used as a location for films including Harry Potter, Alnwick Castle is complemented by the vibrant landscaped gardens, with a shop, restaurant and cafe, created by the Duchess of Northumberland and first opened to the public in 2002.
Reviews
"We stayed for a week at Jacksons Cottage and couldn't fault it. We stayed at the cottage with my son and his family and had two cars. We didn't find parking a problem we always found a parking space. The cottage has a lovely view of the golf course and sea through the upstairs lounge window, it was a lovely place to sit with a brew and watch the world go by. The kitchen is fitted with everything you need including a washer/dryer which my daughter in law made good use of. The beach is a couple of minutes walk away as is the Red Lion pub which serves lovely food and has a warm and welcoming atmosphere. We are looking to book again for the new year."
"Cottage description stated - in centre of Alynmouth. Should have read in centre of main street in Alynmouth. Bus stop really close - very frequent service from early morning to late evening so engine running etc. Also 3 parking spaces right in front of cottage, again constant coming and going but practically impossible to use for the cottage renters unless very lucky. SO NOISY. Rear bedroom has very little natural light, opaque glass door to rear alley, so no fresh air, ditto for front bedroom as this window opened onto the pavement/street. People stood waiting for buses, talking, on mobiles etc and smoking so smoke would drift upstairs into lounge if windows open there. Operating the electric hob was a nightmare due to safety lock and no brochure to give instructions on how to clear this. Clean, good beds etc. Owner was very helpful when we arrived to find that the key did not appear to be available from the pub. Fortunately she advised where we could locate one. We are a mature couple and had just spent a lovely week in a Sykes cottage in the Yorkshire Dales so we found our experience at Jackson's very disappointing to say the least. We would not want to return to this property. I agree with another persons comments on the lack of access to many of the coastal towns ,many have signs saying - no vehicles past this point. Not helpful if person has mobility problem. There is a lovely fish restaurant in Amble."
"A delightful cottage, spotlessly clean with everything we needed, the cottage was very comfortable and cosy, amazing view and a fab shower. Located in a lovely little village, with local shops and pubs, and neighbouring places within easy reach. I would highly recommend this cottage, and would certainly book it again if I was to return to the area. A most enjoyable stay."
"We fell in love with the cottage and the area in general. The owner was kind enough to provide us with towels because we were travelling by train and packing minimally. The cottage is clean, inviting and warm with great views from the bay window. It is located on a friendly yet peaceful street. I so enjoyed waking up to the sound of birdsong and spending time people - watching from the bay window. A stone's throw from sandy beach and spectacular views. Also cottage is 50yards from a bus stop, which was so handy for us. Would recommend any of the local eateries, but we particularly enjoyed great food from Bistro 23, who were kind enough to let us have 'takeaway' food even though they don't usually serve it. A great holiday."
"Well-appointed & well-kept tce. cottage in centre of Alnmouth. all facilities necessary to enjoy winter week away."
"We stayed in this cottage for a week in July, it was comfortably furnished with all mod cons. Two en suite bathrooms was an added bonus, good views to the sea and the golf course, we would stay there again."
"What a nice place to stay, very clean, warm and cosy. The kitchen is well equipped, with everything we used working well..The bedrooms are a good size and the shower is brilliant. The locals are very welcoming. We have tried almost all the eateries and they were all good. The best by far is the Italian- they even do a happy hour early in the evening.Overall, a lovely holiday experience, Thank you Mrs Jackson and Sykes Cottages."
"We stayed here for the February half-term week with my daughter, her husband and our grand-daughter. As an ' upside down' house it worked extremely well. The bedrooms on the ground floor were clean, with lovely white bed linen and both rooms had an en-suite bathroom/ shower room. We were provided with a cot and a high chair(although the high chair did not have a tray) free of charge. Upstairs the rooms were open plan so the sitting room extended into a lovely modern kitchen. The dining table was positioned near the bay window which allowed us to view the sea. Although there is no allocated parking we did not have a parking outside or very near the house( and we had two cars). Alnmouth is a lovely seaside town with many places offering evening meals."
"Jackson Cottage offers a very good level of amenity - rooms nicely decorated and furnished, warm and comfortable, all gadgets etc in the kitchen, excellent view to the sea. The house is 'upside down', with the bedrooms on the ground floor so that the sea view can be appreciated from the first floor bay window in the lounge and dining area. Just two of us stayed, and we chose the bedroom at the back because (we suspect) road and street noise might be disturbing in the front bedroom (it depends what you are used to). There are plenty of excellent restaurants and cafes in Alnmouth, and it is a good location for for the coastal sights and walks."
"We have just spent a delightful long weekend in Alnmouth and could not have asked for a better place to stay - a delightful cottage situated on a quiet high street with a view of the sea from the first floor living room. The bedrooms both have on-suite bathrooms (one with a small bath and shower and one with a large shower) situated on the ground floor. Very conformable and ideally located for local amenities, local walks (of which there are many - look at the local walking book provided) We got there early and had no problem getting access obtaining the keys from the adjoining pub. Very welcoming local shop within too minutes providing all what you would need and tried two of the local pubs, the Red Lion and the Sun. Both were traditional, open fires and real ale. We did our own cooking in the well presented open plan kitchen but did get a 'take away' fish and chips from the neighboring pub which were good value. The other two pubs also looked nice. If there is any negative it would possibly be that the ground floor rear bedroom (which we did not use) does not have a window but don't let this put you off"
"After a stressful year this was just the sort of relaxing holiday we needed. Great position within the village and plenty of eateries in walking distance (including the Indian takeaway from the pub next door - I recommend the hash-o-bash duck!). Good centre for travelling around Northumberland which we hadn't visited much before. Lots of helpful info in the cottage, too. Whinges were few - it would have been nice to have some outside space but appreciate that's not possible - also the door from the back bedroom was unlocked but led nowhere except to a small muddy area which I shouldn't have trodden in anyway! Re the village itself - we shouldn't have to pay for access to the beach at the end of the day, around 5pm. Surprising how difficult it is to access the beaches (other than alnmouth itself) when your mobility is restricted. Recommended trips - boat from Seahouses to Farne Islands; long round trip Berwick-Jedburgh-Kielder; Rothbury a lovely village despite the memory of the Raoul Moat "shoot-out"; Alnwick; Tynemouth; Bamburgh Castle. There's still more to do so we expect to come again."
"The property was spotlessly clean, very comfortable and very well equipped. It is centrally located in the village which is a good base for exploring the area."
"We spent a few days at Jackson's Cottage in March 2011 - and loved it! Beautifully furnished, well equipped and spotlessly clean - and in an ideal location for visiting all the beautiful places Northumberland has to offer!"
"the best holiday we have had! lots of space upsatairs for the children to play, they loved the house being upside down & that they could see the sea. park & beach nearby, as well as children friendly pubs. owners lovely."
"We would wholeheartedly recommend this cottage to anyone wishing for comfortable, cosy accommodation with the convenience of shops, post office and local pubs all just a couple of minutes away. Northumberland is one of our favourite parts of the country and this part of the county is stunning. We have stayed in Northumberland many times, returning to one property 7 times which was beautiful but remote and lonely. Alnmouth was somewhere we always wanted to stay and we really enjoyed our holiday there. The only problem we could envisage would be in the Summer with the on-street parking as it was always busy but no problem when we stayed in November."
"This holiday cottage is situated in the beautifull vilage of Alnmouth with views acroos the golf course to the sea. It is very well equipped with high quality furnature, crockery, cutlery linnen etc. The two en-suite downstairs bedrooms make it ideal for two couples sharing. The lounge/dinning room on the upper floor has the nice views and a well appointed kitchen. Alnmouth is a delightful holiday destination. It offers a wide range of local attractions, beaches, estuary, bird watchin, golf course resteraunts and many other intersting destinations a short drive away. There is also a regular bus service to Alnwick and Newcastle."
