Chathill is a rural hamlet comprised of a farm and a few houses. It is situated 3 miles from Beadnell, which lies on one of the most beautiful stretches of Northumberland's magnificent Heritage Coast. Once a smugglers' haven, Beadnell is now a fishing village, popular with holidaymakers who come to enjoy its pretty harbour. Within easy driving distance of the nearby sandy beaches between Seahouses (where boat rides can be booked for the spectacular Farne Islands) and Bamburgh Castle, Alnwick, Holy Island and the Scottish Borders, there is plenty to see and do.
Reviews
"Stayed here 6th September for a week what a great location very handy for Seahouses , Holy Island , Berwick on Tweed , lots of castles to see and a must visit to Cragside House NT. It is close to Chathill railway station and crossing but not a problem. The rooms are very spacious upstairs bedroom has its own bathroom across the hall with bath and very large walk in shower, similar the downstairs room has en suit facility. A very nice gesture was the milk and a cake when we arrived. Thanks to Mrs Russell. Would recommend this holiday cottage."
"We had a great week in this very comfortable cottage everything we could want was to hand, Mrs Russell even left us a home baked lemon drizzle cake, milk, tea, coffee etc., we had brought our own but it was all there if needed. The cottage was right next to the railway crossing but we soon got used and didn't really notice the frequent trains whizzing past. The coast was just a short drive away and we visited all of the little towns and villages and Lindisfarne (Holy Island) even ventured up to Berwick-upon-Tweed. Sight seeing and beaches make this a great place for a family holiday and the house had books, videos, games all making sure a rainy day would be catered for although we had wall to wall sunshine and the sun porch entrance with it's little table and chairs made an ideal place for breakfasting. Mr Russell is an artist and we enjoyed a look round his studio he's a very amusing man. The bedrooms were separated from the rest of the house and therefore quiet, a twin upstairs with it's own bathroom with walk in shower and jacuzzi bath was very comfortable and the downstairs double with an en-suite bathroom was also comfortable when our friends joined us later in the week. We will definitely consider a return visit."
"The owners were very welcoming, friendly and approachable.Kitchen well kitted out with utensils etc. It was kind of 'home from home'. Good to have a supply of leaflets about the area as it was totally new to us. Especially helpful was the information sheet listing the various churches with contact numbers so we could contact someone to find out if it was the kind of Church we would enjoy.(and we succeeded!) It was a quiet place in the country so there weren't any local amenities but it was just right for us. Lots of castles to visit and the boat trip to the Farne Islands was brilliant. Only one negative - the wireless reception was very weak except in the entrance hall but this was adequate for our 19 yr old son's usage."
"Have already sent our review some months back, only to repeat, that I hope to book again at the same time next year"
"Very quirky but cosy cottage. Plentiful supply of books, videos games etc for rainy day. The owners were very friendly. Only one small complaint (as a non-pet owner) was the smell of animals inside the property. If pets are allowed in the cottage then perhaps a little more thorough cleaning is required."
"I was looking for a last minute break to somewhere near alnwick and found this. Although the owners were away, their arrangements with the neighbours for welcoming and looking after us worked great. The house is very comfortable and warm, good amenities and a great location for getting out and about in Northumberland. For our toddler, the mainline railway 50 yards from the house was a highlight - he loved watching the trains. If you aren't used to the noise of trains going past, you might not enjoy it. The beach at Beadnell is only 3 miles away. Buckets and spades were provided! You need a car to make the most of this location - quite remote. Overall, this was a great place for a break."
