The village of Chirnside occupies an elevated position overlooking the River Tweed and offers stunning views across the magnificent Cheviot Hills. A number of interesting landmarks depict the village's long history, including a 16th Century dovecot and a beautiful parish church, believed to date back to the 12th Century. Each summer, the Jim Clark Rally, the only 'closed roads' race on mainland Britain, takes place in and around Chirnside as a memorial to the village's home born champion. Just 9 miles away lies the charming, coastal town of Berwick, boasting narrow streets enclosed within Elizabethan walls, excellent shopping and dining facilities and an interesting arts centre. The local area affords fantastic fishing, golf and riding opportunities and a fun-packed leisure centre, whilst the nearby resort of Spittal offers soft, sandy beaches, ideal for a relaxing afternoon.
Reviews
"We was given 2 numbers to ring to find out we're we was to collect the key from, after a 4 hour drive we called both numbers and both went into answer phone. We arrived at a very large old house with property all over the place, we wasn't comfortable just wondering around so we sat in the car a piped the horn, still nothing thier was no one around. Although Liz the owner did apologise it still can't change our experience. The cottage itself is really lovely and very peaceful. "
"The Coach House is a ground floor 1 bed flat in an old coach house for a stately home demolished in the 1920s. It's a very attractive, quiet place, in a secluded part of the world. We've stayed there a couple of times for short quiet breaks, and love it. Short distance from the Lammermuir and Cheviot Hills, and also some very nice coastline and beaches. The village also has a very good pub for food. We'll definitely be back!"
"Good location, very quiet, good places to visit within easy range. Better TV neede, with non slip mat in bath-but these are minor things-because such good place, and so well fitted out"
"We thoroughly enjoyed our time in the Coach House. There was a cake awaiting our arrival! The owners were very helpful when a small problem arose and were on to fixing it straight away. The house is in a very quiet area with lovely surroundings. The coast is not too far away with lovely beaches and walks. We loved being there and enjoying the quietness."
"the Coach house is a great place to chill out and get away from the hustle. Setting is great and peaceful and the facilities are excellent. The woodburning stove was fabulous and made for great cosy evenings. It is a good base to explore the lowlands and the beaches along the coast. Thoroughly enjoyed the stay"
"Felt i had been on holiday for a week when it was just the first morning. Lovely setting to sit out and have tea and toast in the morning. Owls to keep you entertained in the evening."
