Kinvara is a seaside village in County Galway located on the edge of the world renowned Burren on Galway Bay. Home to numerous pubs, shops and eateries, with a renowned farmer's market every Friday and hosting two festivals celebrating culture and heritage each year, there is no shortage of things to do here. The small city of Galway, affectionately known as the 'city of festivals' with its pretty alleyways and colourful nightlife is within easy reach, and only a little further is Burren National Park where animals and plant life are abundant, and there are numerous walking opportunities.
Reviews
"Burren View is in the little village of Ballinderreen, about half an hour or so from Galway or The Burren. It is only a small place, but there is plenty of room for 2 or 3, although there is only 1 bedroom, so the 3rd person would need to share with the other 2. There is a Kitchen/diner/living area. The kitchen could be better equipped (bring tea towels and Pyrex if you wish to use the microwave, and a decent can opener) but I dont think this is uncommon in holiday rentals. You also get given the log-in details to the owners wi-fi, which is handy if you have a laptop/smartphone to look up places to go, although there is a wealth of information and a guide book at the property. The apartment was very clean throughout, and also fairly easy to clean on departure. There is a shower in the bathroom, but no bath, but the shower is pretty good and doesnt go hot and cold erratically and has good pressure. You can also turn on an immersion heater if you run out of hot water (its heated with wood) which could be handy. There is a small garden with a table and chairs and a small lawn. there are not many facilities in Ballinderreen, but there is a petrol station. Generally in Ireland there didn't seem to be too many large supermarkets about, but there is a Londis Plus (about the size of an Aldi of Tesco Metro) in Kinvara just 6km away, there are also many pubs there and a few small shops. The Burren is a very interesting geological area, being a large limestone land mass, so not the typical green Ireland you expect. However Connemara is about 1-2hours away which is supposed to be very green (we didnt actually go due to the weather). The Burren has many interesting features to visit itself, including 2 caves where you can get tours, many neolithic tombs, and many old monastery type buildings in various states. The landscape itself is totally unique too, with many areas of just limestone rock rather than grass. There is also a place called Coole Park which is well worth a visit, its a nice forest area and was owned by Lady Gregory who entertained the likes of W.B. Yeats and George Bernard Shaw among other literary people, now there is also an exhibition about Lady Gregory and a tea room there. The Aran Islands are just off the coast of the Burren, so you can get a ferry over to them from there, or go upto Galway where more ferries operate. Overall this is a great place to stay, the owner is very friendly, and there is plenty to do in the local area, both towns and countryside."
