Whitby in North Yorkshire remains one of the regions most popular tourist hotspots, and with good reason. The town is at the mouth of the River Esk, and this old fishing port retains mush character in its winding streets and hidden alleys. There is a picturesque harbour, sandy beach and the famous Whitby Abbey. Close to other seaside destinations such as Scarborough, Staithes and Robin Hood's Bay, Whitby is also ideally placed for heading inland and exploring the beautiful countryside of the North York Moors National Park.
Reviews
"We stayed here for 4 nights at the end of October for Whitby Goth Weekend. The location on Flowergate is great, only a few minutes walk to get to the harbour and loads of cafes and shops very close. The accommodation itself has a quirky layout and interior style wise, it's extremely old fashioned, but the beds were comfy and it contained everything we needed for our stay. There are very steep and narrow steps leading up to the property so worth considering if you have kids or are a bit wobbly on your feet. Great sized bathroom and there is plenty of storage in the bedrooms too. Apart from the very 'traditional' decor which really wasn't my cup of tea, the sofas in the living room were terrible. One person's review says 'comfier than they look' and I'd have to say I really don't agree with that at all. Relaxing in front of the TV occasionally is nice when you can curl up and be comfortable, these sofas really aren't made for comfort or snuggling up on, you can only sit bolt upright on them. A shame because it really did impact the amount of time we spent downstairs being sociable together. I should also say that the house was very clean too and the kitchen was very well equipped."
"Lovely cottage for a weekend away in Whitby! Arrived at the cottage with lots of extras in the cottage! The cottage is right in the centre of Whitby only a short walk to the pier and the old bridge! Could not fault our stay, very clean and comfortable cottage"
"This cottage was lovely. Quaint and right in the centre, it has a lovely homely feel. When we arrived we settled right in, sausage rolls, apples, tea, coffee, milk, butter, sweets and biscuits awaited us-perfect. Three lovely bedrooms, dressing gowns and fluffy slippers and a massive bathroom. A well equipped kitchen with everything you need if you want to eat in and lovely cafes, pubs ,restaurants and takeaways if you don't. There is a Co-op 5 minutes walk away and a lovely big Lidl and Asda 5 minutes drive. The 14 or so steps up to the property are steep but there are plenty of handrails for assistance and a small but perfect little courtyard with a bench to sit out in the evenings. As with the whole of Whitby parking can be a minor issue but we were supplied with parking zone permits and we found a zone free area where we could park just a short five minute walk away. Everyone loved it and we would definitely visit again."
"Wonderful little cottage above the owners fabric and craft shop in Whitby where everything had been thought of to make your stay like being at home away from home. We stayed with a 6 month old baby and despite the 14 steep external stairs to get into the cottage managed fine (and we quickly got the hang of get the pram up and down them), Once inside everything had been thought of, from the plate of baked goodies to revive weary travelers on arrival, to milk, eggs and butter in the fridge, staple foods in the cupboards, toiletries in the bathroom, really anything you may have forgotten to pack was there just in case, including slippers and dressing gowns. it was quite fabulous! Plenty of books and games provided for all ages. Both double bedrooms and the children's bunk room were bright and airy. T Lovely and sunny in the morning to get you moving. The bathroom was large with fast running, instant hot water which coped without issue with multiple adults showering in the morning. Central heating equally fast working and easy to use. Kitchen is compact but well equipped and again, we managed to get the buggy in the bottom of it. Decor was light and cheerful with some lovely handmade touches throughout. You could see a lot of thought had been put in to it. Sofas really are a lot larger and more comfortable than they looked in the photos. Central location made it perfect for both the East and West Cliff areas as well as the harbor front and super market/main high street. All only minutes walk with a pram (as was the bus and train station). We managed to get parked in the side street by the house using the parking passes provided without any difficulty. Made a lovely little home base for wandering around the town and exploring from and was equally pleasant to be in the house of an evening. A gem of a find. Would certainly use again if we were going to Whitby!"
"Lovely stay everything you could want and very warm and clean. The welcome pack was great. I would recommend this house to anybody, really central for everything."
"We stayed here Easter 2014 and had an excellent time. The property was n a good location, close to the town centre. The property was like home from home and was very clean and comfortable. We would definatly recommend it."
"Beautiful cottage and delightful little homely touches. Milk, bread and biscuits were left for us when we arrived. The location was very central with local shops and the beach within walkable distance. We were told that parking may be a problem but we were always able to find somewhere nearby. We had a lovely stay. Thank you."
"The owner was lovely and had provided lots of extras we wouldn't have expected. She owned the fabric shop downstairs and was very helpful. The apartment was well cared for, very clean and comfortable, with everything we could have wished for. The property was 5 minutes walk from the harbour, and the same distance to a good supermarket. Lots of good local cafes/coffee shops. Good starting place for walks from Whitby and near to bus station for good bus service. The only drawbacks were the 14 or so steep steps up to the entrance -especially when unloading luggage. (We coped Ok with them, but some people might struggle) Parking was difficult to find when we first arrived, but that resolved itself in the evening. We used the bus to travel out of Whitby."
"I love Whitby it has such a lot to offer and lots of lovely little lanes with great shops. Church vView is actually over one of these great shops 'Judith's Fabrics' which offers a lot to the sewing enthusiast. It is a great little cottage over three floors and has a very nice homely feel to it. I particularly loved the lounge with the bay window which was filled in so you could sit on it if you so desired. The church was oposite - hence the name - so a reasonable view from the lounge. I went to do some writing and also a little sightseeing. I managed all 199 steps up to the Abbey in one go which was great! Mind you I did have a practice in the morning but only managed 150 in one go that time. I wandered around the lovely shops purchasing an ariginal piece of artwork to take home. Back to the cottage which has all the comforts of a home from home. It was easy to prepare food in the kitchen which is not huge but was very adequate for my needs. The bedroom I used had a very comfy bed and duvet and some mornings I did not want to get up. I have to say that sleeping in that room on the road was a couple of times a bit noisy but that wouldn't stop me staying there again. The bathroom was very roomy and had both a bath and an overbath shower that was really lovely first thing in the morning. If I am going to be picky then I would recommend that there is a good sharp medium sized knife and there be some normal size forks as the ones in the cottage were dessert and I wasn't able to load them up when eating - but that is being really picky but I feel it's worth a mention. Would I stay again? Absolutely - so the fork issue isn't that bad just a little niggle."
"Church View is a lovely cottage in a great central position in Whitby. A friendly and helpful owner who always thinks of the little things to make your stay special. Can't wait to go back! Great service from Sykes too."
