Reviews
"We have stayed here 34 times now and have tried other cottages but have never found anywhere as relaxing as Longstone cottage, for us, it's absolutely perfect in every way, fabulous views, wonderful walks and very dog friendly wooden floors throughout. We come here in all seasons and weathers and there's always so much to see and do, and, sometimes, to just relax and do nothing but enjoy the peace and tranquility. There are no signs forbidding you to do this or that, the only other place you find that is at home which is why we keep coming back, if you haven't got dogs it's still great, the owner next door has four you can borrow at any time, if you have, then it's doggy paradise. Whether it's a few days or a fortnight you're looking for, get yourselves up to longstone cottage, it's absolutely brilliant"
"Just got back from a weeks holiday at longstone cottage. Our dogs loved the grounds and it had stunning views. Andrea and her three dogs are very welcoming and made our stay very enjoyable. Being very interesting in fossils, longstone cottage is the perfect place to explore the different beaches across this coast. We'll be back again next year."
"We couldn't have picked a nicer cottage , it was very large and our daughter and partner also came for a few days so there was plenty of room for us all . The views are amazing and I loved watching the sunrise and sunset . They have horses in the fields and the owner has 4 dogs which are very friendly especially if you have got a packet of biscuits on the go lol . We saw deer in the field and watched a sparrow hawk , plus a nighttime visit from the barn owl fabulous . The owner welcomed us and is very friendly and we would recommend this cottage to anyone we loved and enjoyed every minute of our holiday ."
"We're just back from a week at Longstone Cottage - and what a week it was! This is the ultimate place for dogs. We took our two sheepdogs, Izzy and Murray, and they loved it to bits. Being on a farm they ran round the cottage till their hearts were content. Owners Andrea and Martin, lovely, friendly people, have four dogs of their own - and they're all great. The wooden floors and furniture were all dog-friendly as long as you treat the cottage with respect and clean up after you. The views over the North Yorkshire countryside are stunning and we saw deer as well as hearing the haunting cry of the elusive curlew all day long! Boasting a superbly big open plan living room, the wonderfully-warm cottage is a brilliant base for touring the sensational North Yorks coastline as well as the fabled moors. We had snowstorms, hailstones and downpours as the thermometer dipped below zero! But we took it all in our stride with the help of Longstone Cottage and had a week we'll never forget... Ten out of 10!!"
"We arrived on the Friday and were 'blown away' with the views from this cottage. It's a great location for kids.......plenty of space for them to run around. The owners dogs were regular visitors which the kids loved. The horses in the nearby fields were also well fed! We did spot a deer in the far field too! Our days were spent at the various beaches which were a short drive away. Sandsend is close by, as is Robin Hoods Bay and Runswick Bay. As we went in peak season, parking was sometimes an issue so get out early to grab a parking spot! Cottage was really well stocked and comfortable. As we had 2 birthdays during our week there, we were grateful to have a well stocked kitchen to bake birthday cakes. Owner was lovely and friendly, nothing too much trouble. My only one complaint was the lack of internet access. Other than that, we had a great week and would like to come back and visit again sometime!"
"We (2 adults, 1 child and 1 dog) stayed here for a week, the cottage is really spacious and homely and well located for trips to both the coast and the moors. The views from the front windows are amazing and my daughter loved the horses, dogs and cows. The cottage had everything we needed for the week with walks available from the doorstep. It was great that the cottage had wood floors throughout so we didn't have to worry about getting footprints on carpets due to the wet weather we had during our week. One of the nicest cottages we've stayed in whilst in North Yorkshire."
"Booked this cottage for our group for a few days to include our NYE celebrations for 2014. We spent quite a bit of time beforehand looking for a nice open plan space so that our group of 4 adults, 2 children, 1 infant and our small dog had room to relax. Longstone Cottage was a great choice - have to say that the pictures of the living area don't do it justice, the space is superb. Bedrooms are a reasonable size consisting of a double and twin, and lots of storage which was good. The owner had also made the effort of putting up xmas decorations which was a nice touch. The blokes in the group also took mountain bikes to explore the area a little bit, if you're in to some serious hill climbs I would recommend! We were hoping to take advantage of the local pub as it had received some good reviews, but found it just a little too far away to walk on an evening and the road to/from was a little trechorous for kids and a pushchair. Worth bearing in mind if that's important to you. Overall this is one I would recommend and may well book a return trip in the future."
"We have stayed in this cottage 8 times now and have booked 2 long weekends before the end of the year! We have stayed at many so called dog friendly cottages and found fully them fully carpeted, usually in white, anything but dog friendly. This cottage has wooden floors throughout and is exceptionally spacious so everyone, inc the dogs have a truly relaxing time. we have stayed here in the spring, summer and autumn and had wonderful holidays, but December is the best, when the cottage is decorated for Christmas, it's perfect, all log burners and cosy warm. I have hesitated to write a review as we have recommended it to our friends and family and, as we like to come here often, it may be fully booked! if getting away from it all is your idea of bliss, this place is perfect"
"We recently had a short break at Longstone Cottage near Whitby and can only say that from the moment we arrived until we left was truly wonderful. On arrival we were greeted by the owner who showed us around the cottage which was very modern and extremely well fitted out there was nothing that had not been thought of.The location of the cottage was very quite and relaxing and ideal for traveling around the Yorkshire moors. We would definitely book this cottage again and would recommend it as a very good place to stop."
"The location is great - lots of open fields around, good walks, peaceful, lovely pub in Ugthorpe. Wonderful beaches at Sandsend and Whitby. The cottage was lovely and warm, we didnt need to use the log burner (which was disappointing as I really wanted to!) The owner popped round shortly after we arrived to make sure everything was ok, which it was. Our two border terriers thought they had died and gone to heaven, had a great time exploring everywhere. Our only problem was that the oven broke down, but am sure it's fixed by now, and I cooked our meal in the aga in the main house. On the list of what's not included in the property there should be added washing up liquid, washing powder and j cloths. Don't mind having to provide my own, but would be better if pre-warned. Although the owner did say that she had provided some items in the past but sometimes they hadnt been used, so wasn't sure whether these should be included. I said yes, but will remember to take some with me next time!"
