Reviews
"Our 5th visit to Turret Cottage in the beautiful village of Youlgreave. Amazing to say we stumbled upon it and booked at the last minute 2 years ago - we wouldn't swap this property for any other now! A great base for walking and visiting some lovely places in the local area or slightly further afield. Lots of places to shop and eat in the village! The cottage has recently been updated to a great standard but hasn't lost its quaint appeal. Log fire and all the modern facilities you'd ever need! Dog friendly too. Makes for the perfect break - winter or summer. Home made chocolate cake on arrival courtesy of the cottages brilliant owner - Louise! Can't recommend it enough."
"The cottage is ideally located for a holiday in the Peak District being close to Bakewell and easy access to Buxton & Matlock. Lovely village with great amenities such as village shop, cafes and pubs. The cottage itself is clean and tidy, although would benefit from a little TLC, especially in the bathroom area. Lovely little private garden and off road parking. Beds were very comfortable. Host very pleasant to deal with, although we did not meet her in person. Very quickly dealt with a problem we had with central heating system. If a little extra TLC was given to bathroom and a little updating in the lounge it would have scored higher, but we enjoyed our stay there."
"Booked 3 nights here. Very unloved and smelt of musty damp pets. Did not stay 1 night as we were not comfortable. Tried to reason with owner who said she would clean it again and add air fresheners - needed to be aired! Not worth the money and we spent the next 3 nights staying at hotels which were the same price. Reviews previously about the state of the cottage were correct. 1 star but would award zero, as we walked out. This was a shame as we were looking forward to our stay. Offered to pay the 1 st night and asked for refund but owner told us she would still get her money - says it all!!!"
"Our 4th visit to Turret Cottage and another fantastic holiday. Sofa very comfortable for those nights in after a fabulous day out in the Derbyshire countryside. The cottage is just as it should be homely and welcoming. Loved every minute. Here's to the next time xx"
"This is a lovely home-from-home in a pretty village. It is set back from the main road with shared access to the garden. The owner was very welcoming and gave us free range of the tomatoes in her greenhouse! The village shop stayed open for us as we arrived just as they were closing. We ate in two of the village pubs which were both very friendly with very good value, tasty food."
"We stayed here for a week and we were very disappointed with the condition of the cottage. Everything needs refurbishing The furniture is very worn and has hardly any support. The bed is very un comfortable and should be replaced asap The microwave was full of rust and unusable. The carpet's are very threadbare infact of it wasn't for the beautiful location we would score it one star. Louise the owner is lovely, but the property is in desperate need of updating"
"Youlgreave is a beautiful village, very friendly people, we do love it here, fantastic walks along the river with our well behaved dog. Bakewell very pretty & lots of places of interest to visit. It is our second stay in this village & will visit again, but very, very disappointed with this cottage, it desperately needs the facilities upgrading, beds, bathroom, sofa etc.!! would also think twice about taking a dog!! Wedding Anniversary & Birthday celebrations cut short as we returned home early!"
"Having visited this area for the first time We were pleasantly surprised and had a most enlightening week we visited places like The devils cavern The twisted spire and the dam busters film location We also found out how to dress a well and overall had a good time the cottage is lovely but not to everyone's taste we were welcomed with our well behaved dog in most places and would recommend it to others and go again The landlady was lovely and most helpful and we were able to get our food in the village with THE FARMYARD pub coming out on top by a long way"
"Lovely cottage. Always made welcome. Have stayed twice now and would stay again. Excellent position for walking and close to Bakewell's shopping when required. Would recommend x"
"A really nice cosy cottage log fire . Well equipped . Everything you could possibly need for your stay. Comfy beds very clean so nice we feel right at home . Three pubs to choose from great riverside walks . Secure shared garden for you and your dogs lovely welcome from owners who look after you and give you some local knowledge great big homemade cake on arrival and fresh flowers . Check out the butchers some lovely pastries. We would definitely stay again."
"The homemade cake presented to us by the owner was particularly welcoming and set the tone for the friendly hospitality provided throughout our stay. The fixtures and fittings in Turret Cottage may not have been absolutely pristine but everything worked and overall the property was in a very clean and tidy condition. The cottage proved to be an excellent centre for exploring the highlights of Derbyshire which included walking through the dales around Youlgreave and visiting nearby Chatsworth. We enjoyed our visit!"
"We found this property a big disappointment and nothing like the quality we have previously experienced with Sykes Cottages. It was all very tired and the carpets grubby and contrary to the listing, no fridge/freezer, just a small fridge with ice box, neither was there the promised patio. The bathroom is in dire need of updating, no towel rail, no toilet roll holder and no facilities for toiletries, unless one counts a ledge where the pipes are boxed in. Although the garden has a pleasant grassed area, it can't be seen from the cottage, the only view being of a builders tip and 20 feet wall at the back and the road through the village at the front. This is not the fault of the owner, but is not what is expected from a "country" cottage. On the plus side, the bedding and crockery were clean. A lovely village, with pubs and small shops, in a picturesque setting but, unfortunately, the accommodation was a let down. Luckily, the weather was good. I'm sure the cottage is fine for those who like walking with their dogs, but not for us."
"Very tidy and clean property we had an enjoyable stay. The village has plenty of walks for the dogs and wonderful country side. We have enjoyed are stay so much we have rebooked for sept 2014."
"We enjoyed a weeks stay in this lovely cottage. Its small and cosy but adequate for a family of 4 to enjoy. the location is superb for local walks and withing easy walking of local pubs and the village shop is next door! bakewell is just 10mins away and buxton only 25mins. Alton towers is an easy drive as well. Overall cant fault this cottage, lovely owners made you feel very welcome too."
