The pleasant village of Shobdon lies between the historic market towns of Leominster and Presteigne, surrounded by beautiful Herefordshire countryside and close to the Welsh borderlands. Mentioned in the Domesday Book, Shobdon has a village shop, an excellent pub/restaurant and even a private airfield, providing a rare opportunity to learn how to fly helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft. A great base for a holiday exploring Herefordshire!

"What a great week we had at this beautiful cottage the owner thought of everything, the location was private but accessible, the gardens were beautiful, the local pub was priced just right and now looking to book again soon."

"Very excited to stay in stone cottage as my dad grew up here with his three sisters. I lost dad last September so it was like walking in his shoes. A beautiful cottage with lovely views and pretty garden. Very well equipped. Friendly neighbours. Only compliant was after a long journey from Norfolk we were unable to get in as the wrong key had been left in the key box. Also we were told the cleaner was on holiday that week and we had to clean the bathroom before we could use it and clean the dead flys off the window sills. Everywhere else was clean. We had a lovely holiday and have booked again for next year."

"Probably the best equipped cottage I've ever stayed in, and immaculate on arrival. Rooms are unexpectedly spacious and light. The new 'oak room' is wonderful for sitting watching the sunset (and probably the sunrise too, if you get up early enough!), with lovely views of fields. If you have a dog, this place would be ideal - there's a utility area that would be perfect. Lots of cleaning materials, dog bags, all sorts of very thoughtful items. Didn't need to take anything. Feels very much in the middle of fields and farmland, but is well-situated for visits to Leominster, Ludlow, Hereford or Powys. Great for church crawling - several unique churches in the area. Plenty of pubs in the area for eating out at reasonable prices. Wifi good everywhere in the cottage (which is still unusual). Any downsides? Maybe the steep stairs, but not a problem for us. Main problem was finding the cottage in the first place - suggest you study the map more carefully than we did. Satnav reference sends you about 200yds out, and it's surprisingly hard to find the right place from there, but it's right next to the big barn that used to be black - turn in there."

"Welcome pack on arrival. Warm and very clean. Essential boot/dog room to store walking boots and clean the dog prior to admitting her into the lovely warm house. Quirky bedrooms, steep stairs. Kitchen crockery and cutlery plentiful. A large well equipped kitchen. Superbly comfortable beds. The caretaker of the property was most helpful when we had a hitch. My husband and I had a lovely stay and visited the places where we had honeymooned. 40 years ago. We were joined by two friends for part of the holiday and visited with friends who live in Hereford. Beautiful views and walks nearby."

"Wonderful property rural herefordshire location but ideally situated for Shropshire ( Ludlow and Stokesey castle a must) and Worcestershire as well as Wales. The enclosed garden perfect for a lively dog. The cottage provided everything we could require, All we needed to get was our food. Looking forward to returning in June when we will have the opportunity to further explore the area and relax in the garden in the evening. The owners supply a comprehensive series of folders with details of local attractions, walks, dog friendly places and of course eateries as well as maps of the area. They really did think of everything! A gem of a place!"

"A beautiful cottage set back from the road with a lovely private garden that is fully enclosed so safe for children and pets. Two good size bedrooms with very comfortable beds. Hayley who is the caretaker came round on request when I needed the high chair for my youngest grandson, as my family were coming for dinner her husband came round and gave the grass a quick trim and picked up the fallen apples. Easily sat 8 round the kitchen table for Sunday Lunch. As a keen cook was impressed with the well equipped kitchen. There utensils for children and even a box of things should you have pets. An easy location to visit other places we went to Ludlow, Leominster, Hereford, Ross on Wye, Croft castle to name but a few. I would definitely recommend this cottage."
